I disagree with all these that recommend the modern series.
The new ones are not bad, but there are better "science" stories in the old show, especially the later 70s and early 80s. Kinda similar to how Star Trek's 1st and 2nd seasons run circles around any season of TNG or Voyager or Enterprise. (Note I didn't include DS9, which I consider equal to B5. i.e. The best of SFTV.)
I thought T of T season was dull. I think the best episodes of the Classic Who are from circa 1975 to 1985. Prior to that the stories were s-l-o-w (6 hours long when they should have been 1.5 hours) and after that the writers lost their ability to tell a good story. Of course it didn't help that BBC canceled the show for a year, fired the actor playing the doctor, and that disrupted the writing staff.
My starting point was Doctor #8, the movie doctor, and then I went back and watched the 5th doctor on PBS reruns.
BTW you can bittorrent all of the classic episodes from demonoid.com. They have one huge file containing all of them, even the "lost" episodes.
>>>I've worked with a bunch of Cops. Almost all of them have been stand up guys, and good people.
Sounds like my boss. He was a GREAT guy who I enjoyed having as a friend. Then he became my boss, and demonstrated that power turns you into a dick. Of course away from work, he was still a fun guy..... ( Point: There's a difference between being friends with a cop, and being a victim of a person on a power-trip.)
In my view, and I know many persons will disagree, a Cop is about as trustworthy as a Congressman.
>>>I wonder if they ever consider that this may actually be persuading people to not drink & drive. They check their phone, see that there are some drunk driver stake-outs, and they take a cab home instead. >>>
Which is not what cops and DAs want. If people stopped drinking-and-driving, cops and district attorneys would get laid off (due to lack of things to do). Cops/DAs want to catch you, fine you, and keep themselves busy.
Cops and district attorneys don't want people to stop drinking-and-driving. It wouldn't give them anything to brag about during election campaigns or "we need more funds" speeches.

"When somebody dies, do they go into another dimension, with a very thin wall?" asks her partner, Ben Myckan. "I think that's sort of what it is. You can't destroy energy, it's just in a different dimension."
Says the ghost hunter in the article. Really? So does that mean when my Atari finally died in 2000-something, that it's energy still lived on? Is that why I still hear Pacman and ET sounds?
Uh. No. When the machine dies so too does it's energy. There is no atari ghost left behind, and the same is true for the carbon-based machines we call animals/human beings. The brain loses oxygen, the nerves shrivel & disconnect from one another, and the personality erases.
FIXED : I was going to say [You're wrong] but it turns out there has been a decline, so you are correct. People are showing less interest in obtaining music via P2P. Probably ripping it directly from websites like youtube or hulu
I like the modern music, but then I like electronica in general. The "autotuned" sound works for me, along with the notes that sound like they were made with a Super Nintendo. But I figure it's only a matter of time until there's a "backlash" and music swings back to acoustic (real guitars, real drums, real voices). Just like what happened in the mid-90s.
I was going to say "You're right," but it turns out there has been a decline:
"The average number of music files downloaded from P2P networks also declined from 35 tracks per person in Q4 2007 to just 18 tracks in Q4 2010, although some downloaded just one or two tracks, while others took hundreds. NPD estimates there were 16 million P2P users downloading music in Q4 2010, which is 12 million fewer than in Q4 2007."
Personally I still download tons of music..... from youtube (and with video) that I store on my backup drive.
This has nothing to do with "fact" - whether or not iTunes is a monopoly. This has to do with record companies wanting to set-up their own music stores (and also to charge more than $1 per song), so they are using their friends in DC to lay pressure on the iTunes division of Apple. Follow the money.
In my entire "teen" existence, I spent way less than a thousand dollars on music or games. And yes I pirated a lot (via the primitive 2k modems of the day), but so what? There's no way I could have purchased those things legally, even if I wanted to.
>>>as if everyone who downloads a pirated song would have run out to buy the CD otherwise
Precisely. I certainly don't buy songs; why should I, when the music is available 24/7 on youtube or pandora? Nowadays the only music I buy is on Greatest Hits CDs (because you get ~20 songs for less than a dollar each).
The real thing harming music companies (and radio) is the internet and the fact you can access almost anything at anytime you desire. Maybe they should try suing that. (LOL)
Didn't seem to bother them when they "pirated" artists works for Greatest Hits CDs, and then never paid the royalties. They Canadian record companies owe trillions of dollars.
A case of "Laws don't apply to we, but they apply to thee." Double standard. Class system.
Ditto. It's not worth spending an extra ~$1000 a year for the 3-4 shows on cable that I like. Cheaper to watch it on hulu (free) or DVD (~$30 per season). I haven't seen any of the new Futurama since FOX canceled it. One of these years I'll acquire it and it'll be like new.
Besides I get plenty of television for free: ~40 channels including: - Live Well network, Penn Stateâ(TM)s AccuWeather, Philadelphia Nonstop - NBC Sports, PBSinfo, PBSarts, PBScreate, AntennaTV(70s), RetroTV(80s) - ThisTV (movies), Tango Traffic, Univision, Telefutura, Telemundo - MiND, Smile of a Child, Link World News, MHz World Sitcoms - New Jersey Network, Channel 69, GetItOn Philadelphia - TheTube, JerseyTV, MyNetworkTV, FamilyNet - ION, Lifetime, Qubo - ABC, CBS, FOX, CW, et cetera
>>>You do know that the images are already compressed, right?
Netscape's dialup ISP *re*compresses the images, decreasing them to about one-half their original size (good quality) or 1/10th their original size (terrible quality). Of course they look like crap but I prefer speed over beauty.
It does the same with GIFs, Flash, and Text (as small as 1% original size).
I don't see Firefox every rising above ~30-35%, due to fragmentation of the market: - 1/3 for mozilla - 1/3 for microsoft - 1/3 for google - Plus a few percentage points for "minor" browsers like Opera and Apple safari. Oh and if Firefox ever did "die", which I doubt, I'd sooner switch to Opera's opera or Mozilla's Seamonkey then IE.
I am forced to use IE with my Dialup provider (image compression only works with IE6/7/8), and it stinks. Mostly from the lack of features.

At least in my view. I negotiate with the seller in order to get myself a bargain (50% off ideally; or 30% off if he's resistant).
If seller refuses to provide a partial discount, then I ship back the item at THEIR expense, not mine, because they made the error of sending a "new" laptop that is actually used.
One advantage of how laws and credit card contracts are written: The buyer holds almost-all the power, so it's rare for a seller to succeed in ripping you off.

Well if the code can't be used by corporations or business citizens, how is anyone supposed to make money? This GPL restriction makes no sense.

Your timing is a little off. The state-of-the-art in 1997 was:
Windows 95 or NT 4.x
Nintendo64 or PS1 or Sega Saturn
I figure by the time Duke Nukem Forever arrives, it will have graphics no better than an N64 or DS.
