    A member of the Entitlement Generation complaining "oh the U.S. is so sucky" while the other 6 billion people live on less than 10 dollars a week. It's like listening to a member of the elite bitch-and-moan that he's only in the top 1% of the wealthiest instead of the 0.1% wealthiest.

    FACT: The average U.S. speed is EQUAL to the average EU speed. That's right: Our cousins in the European Union have it No better than we Americans. Sure they have some states that are better, but they also have some crappy states (like Greece, Spain) that are a mere 1-2 Mbit/s.

    The only continent-spanning union that is faster is the Russian Federation (+2 Mbit/s faster than EU or US). But the U.S. average is faster than Canada. Faster than Mexico. Faster than China. Faster than Brazil. Faster than Australia. Faster than India.

    I regularly read facebook or googlemail. I've not noticed it being switched off? I do feel a bit ripped-off though. I bought the 3G version (instead of the cheaper wifi) specifically because the amazon description advertised webbrowsing over the connection. Now suddenly they've taken away that function. (ponder) Maybe if I ask for a store credit, I can return the 3G and get the cheaper wifi instead.

    I used System 6 through 9, and they crashed every day. Sometimes 2-3 times per day which was very frustrating. Whatever program I was using would "hang" and then the whole system was screwed because the crashed program refused to release the CPU. I had to do a cold reboot.

    In contrast Windows moved to "true" preemptive tasking with Win95. That rarely crashed. If a misbehaving program became hung, you could still continue working.

    $5 for a 20-30 year old game seem overpriced to me. They haven't changed the game code..... just run it inside an NES or Super Nintendo or N64 emulator. So they created just 3 new programs. I would say $1/game would be enough...... or else give the games for free and charge $50 for each emulator.

    Either option would be better than having to buy ~500 classic games at $5 a pop == $2500. Insanely overpriced.

    I'm sorry..... I have a copy of the Constitution here. I see that the first amendment protects the right of free speech, but I can lay my hand on no part that says people can be arrested for that same speech. Can you show it to me?

    Or has the USA turned into the USSR where you can be thrown in jail simply because some politician or government employee doesn't like what you said?

    After all it's just a "medical procedure" and since it's "not you" therefore you have no say in the matter. And yes I do consider the killing of human fetuses roughly equivalent to the killing of human slaves (it's the termination of a human organism, regardless of his or her age).

    Of couse the UK has demonstrated itself to be as bad as Russia when it comes to free speech, so I guess we shouldn't be surprised.

    I wouldn't say it "doesn't work." I experienced this shadow banning after I mentioned I not only own a Hybrid electric car, but also a diesel car that gets similar mileage (49MPG). Well the environmentalists furiously attacked me for daring to use the word "diesel" in their forum, and the group owner (also anti-diesel) made my posts invisible.

    It took me a few weeks to realize that none of my posts were being responded too. Rather than waste time with another account, I just left the place. So the shadow-ban worked.

    I like that. Similar to the Sega Genesis Collection I regularly play on my PS2. Nintendo could release "the NES collection" and "the Super Nintendo Collection" and the "N64 Collection" for the Wii or Wii U. I would buy all three of them.

    Problem: These companies know if I and others bought the classics, we'd be playing them instead of the new games. Which is why they don't do it (except the overpriced versions online). They want all the customers' focus & dollars to be backing their new just-released games that cost $60.

    You would never dream of colorizing a classic like Casablanca (unless you're Ted Turner and want to re-copyright the movie for another 100 years). Or adding extra scenes to the Wizard of Oz. Or decide to "improve" Mark Twain by rewriting the final chapter of the book. (Huck's slave is free and adopts Huck to start the South's first biracial family.)

    Neither should you be adding extra scenes or "new gameplay" to a classic like SMB2. Don't muck with the game. If my old Nintendo is broke I want to be able to obtain a copy for my 3DS or Wii, so I can replay the ACTUAL game I played a long time ago, not some George Lucas...... ooops I mean, Nintendo basatardized version

    Mario did not shoot first.

    For me the most important thing ARE the hours. I wouldn't mind waking-up at 1 a.m. to handle a phone call either, but going over 45 hours during the week means less time for at-home hobbies (watching scifi, reading books, flying model airplanes, tearing apart old computers, playing new video games).

    It cuts into my personal time. Some things like watching movies or listening to audiobooks can be done while at work, but not the other things. I would have to give them up if I worked 100 hour weeks at google.

    I know writing douments is the highlight of my day. I certainly wouldn't want to do anything else like watch a TV show or read a novel. Or just play with the kids before they turn into teenagers that don't want to talk to me. No I'd rather craft a fine document that nobody will read (except to verify it exists & then ignore it for 20 years until it gets purged in a shredding). Yep.

    After Apple lost the "Microsoft coppied our GUI" case, their desktop GUI remained unchanged for 10 years. System 7 through 9 were basically identical..... they couldn't even multitask properly (used cooperative multitasking which led to misbehaving programs refusing to give-up the CPU & freezing the system). Apple said they would stop innovating their GUI if competitors simply copied their ideas, and that's essentially what happened.

    Well it's hard to beat free. (After a seller sends you "like new" games that are actually scratched-up & amazon issues a full or partial refund.) Overall I spend about half as much money through the marketplace sellers vs. buying direct from amazon.

Because all sellers, even the 98% who are honest, are scum of the earth. We spit on them." --- As things stand now on ebay that's essentially what is happening: Sellers routinely losing money.

    You're right the buyers won't leave because they get an automatic 100% feedback (even if they are professional thieves). It will be the sellers who leave when they get tired of losing 100-200 dollars every week to professional scam artists/buyers.

    As Ebay was originaly envisioned it was supposed to be an equal community. Buyers/sellers trading with one another & neither had an advantage. Buyers could neg bad sellers..... and then later the buyer would re-sell his item on ebay, and the tables would be turned (the buyer had to be a good seller).

    I used touchscreens in both decades, and they were held back because they sucked. You had to press hard to get your input to register. (Also people weren't sure what input would be best... touchscreen, mouse, touchpad, or lightpen.) Just as none of the home computers of the day could play DVD-quality video prior to 1995, neither could they do multitouch. The technology simply wasn't there.

    BTW it's not the first time a patent was invalidated in court by showing the existence of prior work. In 2007 Novell and Red Hat Linux jointly fended off a patent infringement suit for virtual desktops - and several people helped in finding cases of prior art. The most interesting one of all? A carefully restored and working 1985 Commodore Amiga demonstrated to the judge and jury..... Basically they demonstrated how the Amiga could have multiple desktops and screens.

    POINT: A patent is invalidated when a piece of working hardware predates the issuance date. Apple can not claim a patent on the rounded-corners of the iPad if a piece of hardware already existed with that concept.

    Ahahahahahahahaaaha. Let's see. Bill Gates complained in a newsletter circa 1980 about people copying software and ideas without permission. Apple sued Microsoft in the mid-80s for making an OS too similar to their own (which led MS plus other makers like Atari and Commodore to deliberately change their OSes appearance). Activision was sued by Atari in 1980 for making cartridges without permission. Nintendo was sued in the late 80s for not sharing their cartridge patents with Atari & other 3rd-party vendors. NCSA Mosaic sued Netscape for copying their browser concepts in the early 90s.

    Yeah. Sure. "Open and willing to share". Not.

    Question:

    What happens 10 years from now when I want to play my favorite classic game on my Windows 11 PC, but it won't work without the "patch" or downloadable content & the company no longer exists (or does exist but won't supply the files online)???

    This looks like very obvious planned obsolescence to me. Release a game that is incomplete in the store & only works due to an internet download/patch, but later erase the patch so it can never be played again. (Thereby forcing people to buy new games instead of playing favorite classics.)
