  1. A simple google search for "the wage gap is a myth" shows many, many people who have said this publicly and somehow survived without being lynched.

In fact I'd go as far as to say it's approaching the most popular viewpoint now.

The examiner is right, it's nonsense. They are trying to build some kind of charge pump buy turning a FET on and off, but their "replenishment current" is coming from ground. Ground is shown both sinking and sourcing current.

Maybe they build some clever supply system that they are referring to as ground here, but in that case it's rather odd that they used the standard symbol for ground and not something else. In either case it's a glaring mistake.

  5. This is how Mashiki's mind works. He gets triggered easily because he believes in a vast conspiracy of feminists trying to destroy the world with Cultural Marxism, and so whenever anyone says anything he disagrees with in the slightest he assumes they are part of it and the embodiment of pure evil.

  6. The fact that he starts ranting about Cultural Marxism by the end of the presentation rather undermines any claims he is making, especially those that are anecdotal. Anyone who believes sincerely in that outlandish conspiracy theory is not a reliable witness.

  7. It's not true. Feminists went all the way to the Supreme Court in the US to try to get the draft extended to woman as well as men. The Supreme Court denied them. However there has been success in many countries getting the draft to include women and making it possible for women to fight for their countries.

  8. Probably the same reason that he thought he could bring up the Cultural Marxism antisemitic conspiracy theory and not get reprimanded.

  9. Have you ever been to one of these conferences? They can be very productive and useful, and far from an echo chamber unless you consider anything that doesn't give due consideration to shit we moved past a quarter of a century ago to be a bubble.

It's also unreasonable to expect CERN to be completely free of anything but pure physics. Physicists are human beings. And CERN is apparently pretty good for a lot of this stuff, e.g. accommodating parents and holding these kinds of conferences.

Indeed. 30% "overrated" and 10% "redundant". Both obvious proxies for people who think you are trolling them but not sticking to the agreed narrative.

    Slashdot moderation needs an overhaul.

  11. That's not new, it's been there for a century in its modern form. Ever heard of patriarchy? It's a system that perpetuates sexism, among other things, and one of the earliest ideas in feminism. In fact Diderot was talking about it in the latter half of the 18th century.

Your understanding of it is flawed too, but I'm not in the mood to explain it right now.

  12. Part of the problem is wages. More people in your field means less money for you. I can't argue that

Allow me. If you want the big bucks then you need a team. Best of all that frees you up to get on with the interesting stuff, in exchange for a bit of time managing the people doing the lower level stuff. I've lost count of how many libraries I've written to do the cool stuff and then handed over to the desktop/web people to wrap a GUI around, and they seem pretty happy with that.

It's more to do with an aspect of Japanese culture and the way Japan gets a lot of unique technology.

Japan is sometimes called the Galapagos of tech, because a lot of technology exists there that never reaches the rest of the world. It's seen as a testing ground for new ideas in the consumer space, and partly as a result of that has its own very unique consumer market. You can still buy flip phones in Japan, and there are many Japan only models and an even larger amount of Japan only software. Same on desktop, there is a vast amount of Japanese software that is unknown in the rest of the world.

On top of that there is a culture of having 90s era web sites built in Notepad (or more likely a Japanese developed editor like ComWin, Dana, K2, Apsaly, MIFES, gPad, oEdit, Meri, QX, ViVi, WZ, Sakura Editor, Hidamaru or Memo-note) with raw info and little attention paid to design. The emphasis is on content, and a lot of Japanese commercial sites like blogs (nfinity etc.) are similar.

Interestingly nerds have seen a surge in popularity in Japan since the early 2000s. There was a guy who became known as "train man" who kind of kick started it and now nerds are considered to have positive qualities like reliability and dedication.

    Remember web rings?

Before social media existed and back when search engines were crap, it was hard to find sites and getting your personal site some exposure and visitors was difficult. There were numerous solutions, the two big ones being curated web directories (like Yahoo) and web rings. The web ring was a thing you put on your site with a next and previous link to the adjacent sites in the ring. All sites in the ring would be related to the same subject.

The web was a much smaller place back then.

Unfortunately there does need to be some kind limit, otherwise the whole thing is pointless. It is an issue for women's sport if you consider it to be all about winning and being the absolute best. Of course it's not like that in the real world for most athletes, except at the very top levels.

The whole of sport has to deal with similar issues. Doping, equipment that gives competitors an edge, access to expensive cutting edge training equipment and sports science. Even the use of prescription, non-banned medicines. It has been argued that people who need to take asthma medication should be banned at the top levels because that can give them an advantage, and the prevalence of asthma seems to be unusually high among that population.

I'm no expert on California, but I think realistically someone who makes no effort to adopt female identifiers and who walks in to a women's changing room is likely to cause some alarm.

But consider that the same thing will happen if you try to force trans men to use the women's locker room. A dude with a beard, shaved head and maybe a penis will walk in and get naked. So while there is perhaps no ideal solution, asking that trans people make some effort (which most of them really want to do anyway, after all what is the point otherwise) seems reasonable and likely to result in the least strife.

The refuse collectors thing is an interesting one. It's a physically demanding job so there is some natural limitation, but also because it's a low pay unskilled job it's very difficult to get anyone interested in it. The best option seems to be to look at more desirable jobs and expect that as equality improves there it will improve elsewhere. Obviously if this doesn't work we will need to think about what else needs to be done.
