That's a pretty extreme view, and kinda bizarre considering one of the worst offenders was an old black guy. His actions really hurt black people, the Cosby Show being such an important landmark for them...
The real problem is that the tools provided to decide who you listen to are inadequate and very difficult to build.
The average person probably doesn't want to listen to Russian propaganda on Facebook. What tools are there to help them do that? How much effort and technical ability do they require?
They will dispose of excellent employees as soon as they can hire 1.5 college grads to do the same work for the same money. At least, that's how some companies work.
Sadly if you want good money you often have to keep switching jobs.
Americans earn more on average, but spend much more of it on healthcare and are at constant risk of bankruptcy from illness. Also, inequality between workers is way higher.
It's proper that society seeks to create the most collective happiness and good, while respecting fundamental rights. US society is just someone else's boot using your face as a step up.
Google doesn't take money to pass ads through it's block. Show me some evidence if you have it.
The overlay feature is borrowed from mobile. When you are on one screen you might want the main browser to be full size, but also have the video playing overlaid in the corner. It's not something I would use, but it's something that people seem to like on phones. Some manufacturers even offer in the browser already, e.g. Samsung.
We don't know that it doesn't have a funny facing camera though. Maybe it pops up at the top, maybe they found a way to put it behind the LCD without compromising the backlight.
Webmail has a few advantages. The main one with Gmail is the search feature that seems to be vastly better than any email client I've used, especially Thunderbird.
The is no need to waste time organising mail any more, because search is so good. It's a massive time saver.
None of the jankyness of IMAP either, it syncs perfectly and never breaks.
"The average US car goes 80 million miles between fatal accidents. The average Tesla goes 320 million miles between fatal accidents. 1/3rd to 1/2 of all Tesla miles are on Autopilot."
This is not a good comparison. The average US car includes many older models, and many trucks and SUVs that are more likely to kill people than a sedan/crossover.
Do you have stats for similar cars? A quick Google only turned up stuff about the Volvo XC90 and Toyota Highlander having zero fatal accidents one year.
It doesn't mean that in 18 months Windows will drop support for it. It means that you get at least 18 months of firmware updates. Things like improved RAM compatibility and bug fixes.
Hopefully security fixes keep coming after that, but as Intel has demonstrated there is no guarantee.
Clearly bullshit. Google started including an ad-blocker in Chrome ffs. They very obviously do care about your experience using the browser.
And with Chrome you are not the product. You can use it without any connection to Google. Their interest is in developing the web as a platform, because that's where they make their money.
As usual the reality of this feature is rather different to the default assumptions of most posters. It's basically like the F12 full screen key. If you want to have the video overlaid you can, but the site can't force it.
It's insane that anyone would think otherwise. Chrome blocked pop-up windows from day one. It makes no sense that they would introduce a new way to abuse users when they just finished killing Flash and background tab audio.
Their objection is over supporting the use of drones at all.
Drones separate the operator from the target to an extent that seems to lead to a lot of innocent people being murdered. They don't want to be involved in that, and perhaps understand that AI isn't going to be used to reduce these mistakes but rather look for more stuff to blow up.
Like almost all email services they scan for stuff like viruses and auto-reply loops. Google also does spam filtering and phishing detection, like almost everyone.
Most users would probably be upset if they didn't.
Then you have their promise not to mine emails for advertising purposes. The language is still in the privacy policy... But no evidence they are still doing it. If they were, they would be in serious legal difficulty so I'd hope some evidence would be found.
"Beijing has made resolving the situation with ZTE, which employs about 80,000 people, one of its demands for striking a broader trade agreement with with US."
Trump has no choice, other than to burn the whole deal. We know he doesn't like to lose.
Actually I'm with Slashdot on this one, Unicode itself is so broken that it's either bad but functional rendering, or the users can completely break the layout and pull all kinds of shinnanigans.

And he was convicted by a jury.

Because explaining that the problem is complex and needs a longer term solution is less effective than chanting "build that wall".

I don't understand how it can even be possible to sign away your right to report crimes.
Karma hit... You know you are gonna get modded up for that.
The backlash against #metoo is pretty strong on Slashdot. It's a shame people can't engage in the debate, rather than fearmonger.

Google is a member of this group, but only one of many.

The Cadillac one works with sunglasses. There is a video on YouTube somewhere of a journalist trying it.

You are seriously suggesting that these guys in Afghanistan and Iraq represent such a threat that nukes would be required?

I've used ProLilot in a Leaf and it was very relaxing and easy. The car seemed more confident and sure of itself than Autopilot when entering corners.
The other big difference is that it starts nagging you a few seconds after you take your hand of the wheel. Tesla lets you go for much longer.
Tesla's system doesn't even use the driver's seat occupancy sensor to make sure there is actually someone sat behind the wheel.
The "autopilot assistant" trick of wedging fruit into the steering wheel to make it think you have hands on is well known too.
That article shows them testing the iPhone 6 for bending, yet they still had bendgate... They don't know what they are doing.

Basically it's bullshit, nothing to see here.

It helps America because China made it a condition of the new trade deal. That deal will benefit America.
Some people enjoy destroying other people's work. They get great pleasure from denigrating and tearing it down. It's one of Wikipedia's oldest trolls.
