    The problem is a non-compete effectively makes you worthless if you leave your job. What's the point in being a pro if you can't legally sell your skills to the highest bidder ?

    Even if a pro jumps ship over to your competitor, all that knowledge is worth very little unless they can put it to work against you within a short time frame. That same knowledge could have been used by YOU, to fix what's wrong with YOUR company. If the clients find a better deal elsewhere, it is not because "the employee knew too much", it's because the product/service sucks and management is too stupid to fix it.

    The problem with American capitalism is it has way too many exceptions throwing the game off-balance in favor of the rich losers, it's an end-run around the whole ethos.

    Actually, productivity would increase if the system gave the illusion of being faster and less fussy, because people would spend less time posting on forums about how Windows sucks ;)

    Me, I have yet to accomplish ANY work with Vista or W7, because all I've ever done is install, whine, and format.

    Yes and no.

    It is a Quadro, and the extra memory is indeed handy for "professional" rendering, but don't get too far ahead of yourself. The rest of the card is nearly identical to the gaming versions. I suspect this is a GTX 260 with minor changes... mostly in the firmware.

    Nero's test accuracy is highly dependent on the DVD drive you use. A number of drives on the market give unreliable PI/PO data, some of them deliberately to make the drive seem better than it really is.

    I'm all in support of a fair legal process, and inmates should be allowed the right to seek justice, but maybe they could have cut him off after the first dozen random suits, no ?

    Actually a bunch of the web-based porn pros seed their own content on these sites. It's been standard practice to promote web sites with free content (TGPs and whatnot), the torrent craze is just another way to get your brand out there.

    Bangbros and others would be nowhere if it weren't for P2P. Today they're household names (well, among porn consumers).

    Has your life been negatively impacted by these "illegal" wireless microphones ? No ? Then STFU!

    The whole concept of licensing airwaves is loopy to begin with. Who "owns" the airwaves ? Not the US Gov't nor the FCC. I respect the need for some regulation, mainly to ensure operability, but that's roughly where my concern ends.

    That entirely depends on how you define right vs wrong.

    If something is disliked or unfavorable to the wealthy minority "wrong" ?

    Is doing something because everyone else doing it "right" ?

    The answer to both those questions should be: "Who cares!?" Right and wrong should be a personal thing. You don't like what someone else does ? Ok, your problem!

    It's true that Theora 1.0 is ideologically superior crap, but actually getting it released and in people's browsers means it just might attract enough eyeballs to get development rolling and bring improvements in the next version.

    There's no technical reason why we couldn't have equal (or better) compression to H.264. We can't use their patented algos, but there is much to be learned from the techniques and science behind it, and I'm sure there are quite a few OSS brains out there who can digest the info and spit out code.
