By now i would guess that most phones would have run out of batteries. However some people may have been smart enough to turn their's off for most of the time, only occassionally calling. If resucers get close, then they could turn it on and start calling.
Chinese characters are known by their dialect names in China but for us outsiders the word Hanzi will do.
What the PROC can do is not allow any registration of TLD's with the.cn ending and tell its own DNS servers to ignore the VeriSign implementation. Japan would presumably have use its own TLD.jp and not be affected by the PROC's action.
This action is sad however. I've worked on web pages for the Chinese-American community and having a Chinese domain name would have been nice for our overseas brothers (these pages have nothing to do with Taiwan btw)

Mechanical voting is much quicker than paper ballots. However they DO crash. In NY where we use mechanical voting ballots, the machine I was in line for jammed and refused to work for 1 hour.
Electrionic voting terminals could be set up to print out scantrons sheets if needed. it would not be too hard.
Also, a electronic voting machine does not to do much. Although I've seen simple computers like ATM's crash, it is in way less frequency than you would probably think. Those things don't do much and have less oppurtunity to crash.
I don't know. The best explanation I found for the Illuminati was actually in the Deus Ex Strategy Guide. In the back of the guide there is a plot spoiler that explains the whole plot (and stuff about the Illuminati). I'm not a big fan of the idea so I don't remember much but check it out, it might provide the information you need. Just grab some Joe and sit at a B&N and read.
I wonder if any code in IE was ever written by a Scientologist. If so, maybe Germany can get instructions to remove that. Too bad doing that would destroy their anti-trust defense
I don't have any statistics but much of America have religious affiliations. However, the overly relgious people are much few in number. Much of America are casual churchgoers and religion does not rule their entire lives. One annoying trend is for the Christian Right (a miniority) trying to force their beliefs on the entire nation. Everything from the Ten Commandments in schools to school prayer to the ban on abortion. In all honesty, as a secular humanist, I would much rather have your lack of religion than these fanatics trying to force me to do what they want.
I think you forgot to calculate terminal velocity. The woman is not going to just keep accelerating, she is eventually going to hit terminal velocity and stop accelerating. In fact as the air gets thicker, she will DEcelerated. I don't have my physics book handy so I can't calculate the terminal velocity but there might be enough for a game of Majhong
My friend who worked at MS (game programmer, the good games, not FreeCell or something:)) got a T1 to work through. He lived really damm far out in the middle of nowhere Washington but for some how convinced MS to hook him up with a T1.
How true, how true. At my college, there is one pool table (a decent one, no ball return tho) that is free for all to use (just call next and wait in line). On any day, ask around for what majors people are. Nearly are CS. Most can't play any active sports. It's a fun, and most importantly social game. You can trash talk, gossip, and debate shots. Try having that social interaction from your home.
1. Well BMG has a LARGE catalog of music that might not be on Napster. And yes there are a lot of "high-quality" MP3's on the free zone but you don't know what your getting. Getting a BlameEnc 160kbps mp3 is different than a LAME 160kpbs mp3 (to me anyways).
2. No clue, maybe the copyright bit that no one uses? Force upgrade Napster-Free so that it won't send anything with the copyright bit I guess. Still, I think that the copyright bit can be changed. Besides that, the fact that people have PAID money and might not be tempted to share files that they have paid (doubt that, someone had to buy all those CDs).
I'm somewhat sure that the piracy in China is at least ignored by the officials. Sure there may be a bust or two, but it is the benefit of China that piracy occurs. After all, how do you expect a nation that has the economy of a third world country to afford a $400 copy of Microsoft Office 2000.
Of course, that is one of the reasons why China endorsed Linux, cheaper software.
Come on now, I know everyone wants to endure several weeks of cosmonaut training in order to go up to a 20 year old space station that might blow up at any time and has fungus growing inside it.

Oh and don't forget the chance that the rocket you are on going up to Mir might blow up too.

Shit I don't read Slahsdot. Guess i'm screwed >2) Minority Religions... > >All non-Slahsdot readers will surely burn in >hell.
Weight perhaps? I don't know how much solar panels way, but it would add weight to the airship, perhaps making it too heavy to stay up?
Nah, the REAL reason the FBI acted so quickly is that the Commander in Chief's wife is a Yankee Fan

It doesn't do PS2, just the original PSX
VMWare isn't an emulator either. It creates a virtual machine. Something like VirtualPC for the Mac would be an emulator
ok if I get what ur saying is that there would be options like (-1, no cap) or (no penalty, 50 karma cap)?
"-1 per post" is interesting, but what about the people who are new to /.? They would lose karma before they even have a good chance to gain it.
