It may be an old game, but being able to run it on a modern OS is amazing, while running the more recent Ultima 8 on a modern OS wouldn't impress me at all.

It was so complex to configure a working operating environment that could run Ultima 7, you had to understand the whole i386/MS-DOS memory model with all its hacks and subtleties just to run that game. Being able to start a game for the first time was the first quest of the game, even before that of solving the murder in Trinsic.

I've always used Ultima 7 as a hardcore test when I try an emulator. If it runs Ultima 7, it must emulate every feature and bug of the i386 architecture/MS-DOS and passes the test, if it doesn't, it fails. I've only tried VMWare that passed the test (but with no sound), all others failed.

Now thanks to Exult I don't really care anymore if an emulator can run Ultima 7 or not, but it's still a good way to check if an emulator does its work well.

I don't watch much TV, and I would prefer buying the shows I like than paying a monthly fee for cable, which I use at most 20 hours per month.

They should release Enterprise season 1 now instead of waiting 10 years after the serie has ended. In 20 years it will be too late, I'll have already been tired of waiting for years and will just download all the series on a napster clone

Same thing for the Simpsons, why is it taking so long to release each new season?

But people aren't stealing movies/music as much as the MPAA/RIAA claim to justify the SSSCA.

So they should stop bothering us honest customers who rip every CD they buy to their personal hard drive which is not shared in any way. I want to be able to use my personal MP3 CD player with copies of any album i BUY, and I want to have backups in case the original CD gets damaged (it's rare, but in my 250 cd collection, at least 5 of them are damaged)

The next they'll do is to say I'm denying them the right to profit by not buying a second copy of the same CD I already have, because I have a backup.

Maybe not for games I already bought when they were first relased, but I would pay full price for re-releases I never had a chance to buy, if I really want to play them.

I don't agree with your car analogy, a car looses value because it's made of matter that degrades over time, but a good book/music album/movie/game is data that can be perfectly reproduced on any media, without any degradation, so a book written centuries ago has the same value than any new book.

The game still has the same value it used to have, that's why I'm dedicating time to play it.
