Wordpress 1.5.2 and 2.0 work fine for me using Apache on windows, so I'm not sure what you're doing wrong.

Just download XAMPP and wordpress and you'll be up and running within minutes. Not sure what XAMPP would be like as a production system, but it's great for testing.

Yes I find this a huge issue, apparently there's a patch for the IDN issue but is it easy to find? No. Does "check for updates" find it? - No. The security updates link is a tiny link hidden in the footer on the default Firefox page. (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/central.h tml) Until Mozilla make it extremely easy for the user to update, or discover updates then your average user is never going to update. Figures (admitted a small sample) from a site I run, but they're a good indicator of your average home user.

They didn't have the bandwith to send back complete sound, so they've averaged the amplitude and frequency of the sound. I assume that they've then used this to modulate some white noise to produce the sound that they've posted.

Damn, you're correct of course. I really meant -5 to -8.

I'd have thought that -5 to -8 (mostly the americas), +2 to -1 most of europe and africa, and +5 to +8 india, china, would all have been roughly equal in terms of population. But I can't be bothered checking the veracity of my assertation....

With respect it's not at all easy for the clueless.

If I go to the firefox home page - there's no mention of it, if I go to the support page there's no mention of it. If I go to the download page I see a reference to 0.9.2 but no release notes telling me that there's a security problem.

So as an average user how would I know or find the fix? Answer: I wouldn't.
