    Just replying to make a small correction to one point you made...

    That would be if you don't have directory and filename completion, easily enabled with the Win2k TweakUI tool from MS, or by manipulating a registry key.

    You don't need to reboot after installing those programs. Windows development companies just seem to have a blind compulsion to tell you you need to at the end of an install, when 99% of the time it's BS.     If you're going to continue to try and appeal to the intellectual midgets who go for a sensationalist headline, don't be surprised maybe a year from when them and the first post trolls are the only people left reading this site.

    Some of us don't like finding that 9 out of 10 headlines are misleading, or worse, completely untrue. Some of us even have no qualms about not coming back to a site that's becoming so consistently dishonest.

    Don't do this to yourself Slashdot. You're worth more than just another trashy "news" site that creates bullshit headlines to pull in clicks on the banner ads.

    That's true, what with 3dfx's drivers being open source etc., but nVidia's drivers are *better*. In some resolutions in Linux providing up to 99% of the framerate you get under Windows...whereas 3dfx's drivers give all round poor performance (this is supported my the numbers, not just my opinion).

    Sure, they're open source, but when you're not getting the performance out of the card you paid for, what's the point?

    I think you mean the size of 3dfx graphics chips is getting bigger and bigger lately (look at the V5).

    My nVidia GF2 MX is smaller than the TNT2 I replaced it with, which is turn was smaller than the original TNT it replaced.

    Fortunately the full GeForce2 MX cards for PCs already run so cool that the nVidia reference board didn't have any cooling onboard and still worked fine.

    If as this article says the laptop variant uses even lower power, there shouldn't be any heat problems.

    After having the beta installed for a couple of weeks, I'd have to say that was mostly cosmetic enhancements (in the form of a nice new theming system that means Windows users don't have to be embarassed when compared to the purdyness of X) it really, honestly could have been and should have been Win2k service pack 2.

    Whister is just more needless moneygrubbing from Microsoft.

    Er...so the fact that their Linux drivers work extremely well (producing numbers close to Windows scores), and the 3dfx drivers for Linux produce performance as though you were running on a card from 3 years ago doesn't matter, because they're not open source? I admire your logic.

    I would've considered this a decent post if you hadn't gone troll at the end with that idiotic third point.

    Oops, left out part of that post (Hey, it's late, I'm tired).

    The Wellington CC website is a matter of some local embarassment, as well as being out of date I believe some errors were mentioned on it, which would explain the discrepencies in population figures - if one of them is right, the other must be wrong, since Wellington (the capital city) has a much larger population than Christchurch.

    Your statistics are incorrect. Wellington is substantially larger than Christchurch, which is one of the most minor of the "large" (relatively speaking) citys in the country, being in the south island (which also contains the significantly lower portion of the population compared to the North). I suggest you check your sources. And your point about those being towns in most countries is something I agree with, but it's also irrelevent to the point I was making, which was that there *is* anonymity in a city of several hundred thousand - people don't all know each other in a town unless you're talking about some hick shanty of about 10,000 people at most.

    Um, dude, in a relative sense when comparing to major world cities I suppose you could say the major cities in NZ were towns, but don't take it too literally. 600,000 people (in Wellington, close to the same in Christchurch) is WAY too big for everyone to know each other as you seem to be suggesting with your "no anonymity" comment. :P

    I find it slightly hard to beleive the point that the article makes about American English being the most common form of English. I mean, come on. The US may have the most dominant *culture* in the western world, but it doesn't have the population to be able to say that US English is the most commonly spoken. Then again...more and more kids around me (in New Zealand) are starting to say "mom" instead of mum... :\ I blame TV. :)
