My parents computer got infected this way and they had a 2 year old version of Flash, but had windows updates and the most recent version of Firefox installed thinking they were safe. Vector attacks are not noticable and can by pass UAC and run directly on the CPU by passing Windows entirely.
Uninstall Flash and PDF reader folks and use Chrome if possible as it updates its flash automatically.
I do not like Chrome, but I am genuinely paranoid about using Adobe PDF reader or Flash on any other system. Most users have the 2 year old Flash 9.0 that has many exploits.
So Windows Update focuses on securing Windows and IE, so hackers focus on the plugin instead. Genius. Windows update is old news now and WebGL is going to come next I fear as a reflashed video card with malware would be a nightmare if not impossible to uninstall. Chrome 14 has more advanced scripting protection. Chrome 12 already blocks many bad javascripts that come in adds from other domains. IE and Firefox already have this and you do not need noscript anymore for these exploits.

No worries of old flash exploits eithers which is one of Chrome's strength. Still I find the hardware acceleration in Chrome lacking. IE 9 is smooth when I hit arrow up or down and pictures and text flicker like mad with Chrome as they are not fully accelerated.
Windows update automatically upgrades IE8 to IE9 without a user prompt these past few weeks. That is problematic as IE 9 has more in common with chrome and firefox than IE 8 so many intranet apps expect the non standard quirks of jscript and css box models. IE 9 being good is its major problem.
In this recession many laywers have been rightsized and it is becoming quite common not to hire paralegals to save on costs. A good one costs at least $45,000 a year minimium and if you only make $90,000 a year that would cut your pay in half to the same level as the paralegal! This does not factor in increased taxes or healthcare costs which are growing unsustainable huge.
