Both office 365 and Google's gsuite support it and include DNS records you can add with a key identifer to verify the domain attached with the IP address is you. More information is here http://www.dkim.org/
SPF also is pretty standard which helps but black hats have gotten work arounds.
If you own your exchange server you need to let your system administrator add the proper DNS records and turn it on in the Exchange Admin center
We switched to Office365 this month from 2010, and our end users are sick of it. They complain about re-authentication, along with bugs and other issues. Many people are switching back to our Google webmail instead.
For us, the price point is higher than where we want to be, given all the SaaS crap we are stuck with. I expect a defection inside a year.
That means your IT department didn't update their DNS records to point to O365 or you have port 443 firewalled. This doesn't mean it sucks but rather your department screwed up.
Alot of ignorant slashdoters feel this is the same product you buy and users are retarded. That is plain wrong.
Office 365 small business includes SharePoint, exchange, Skype for business, outlook Contact manager, Microsoft teams, and additional add ons for extra like Dynamics, Phone numbers, intune PC and phone management, and free support from someone not in India asking you to restart your PC, but an actual experienced engineer.
For home not great. But for a small office and a few shops with just 18 users and NO IT guy or SERVER rack it's a great value. Small business is only $9 a month per user.
My opinion maybe unpopular here but am just stated how these users think... not agreeing.
Office and Windows are not perfect. We all know this. The users do too. They use what works and brings best value.
Blue E = internet?? That was true 10 years ago. These same users all use Chrome with a few hanging onto Firefox. They switched to better products and until Firefox hit version 1.5/2.0 IE 6 was the better browser. IE 6 was more standards compliant than Netscape!!?? Go ask an old school web developer if you don't believe me.:-)
Now what users LOVE about office 365 is Outlook with free/Busy, Skype meetings where you can buy phone numbers for sales teams to dial in, exhange online, and SharePoint and free technical support. Nifty for non nerds like us for smaller to medium sized Businesses.
So it's not that they are stupid or ignorant. It's LibreOffice doesn't have an answer to Outlook or Skype or add ons like adding telephone numbers. Office is guaranteed not to misrender files too. Sucks but is reality. These users left IE when something better came. Give them this and they will cancel their expensive subscriptions
For a small to medium sized business owner Outlook with all it's flaws has office 365 integration which includes Skype for business calling, outlook Contact manager for crm with clients, calendar events, etc.
Thunderbird is very dated and for non nerds is inferior over what office does. Sucks but that is a fact. Phb LOVE their free/busy when setting up a meeting. Office 365 includes additional add-ons like cloud pbx to add numbers to conferences to Skype so customers and vendors can call in with a phone.
Office 365 is more than word processing software. Office 365 also includes full hosted versions of SharePoint, intune, Skype for business, and Exchange and includes with subscription add ons crm like Dynamics and the Outlook Contact manager and cloud PBX for things like having dedicated numbers for phones and meetings under Skype from phones. With add ons businesses can also get intune, advanced threat protection, and exchange archiving for ediscovery and audits. Microsofts offers free technical support which is nice for small business who don't have dedicated IT departments. Now the home version sucks as you just get software
The vast majority of employers in North America are small business with less than 100 people.
To them they get some features that the big boys get and rents are tax deductible too! I credit Microsoft which unlike Adobe at least offers stuff when you are willing to go monthly.
Really Windows 10 is from what 8 should have been from day 1. Windows 7 aero was gorgeous and I loved Windows instant search and was more secure with a lot less bugs than XP when it was new. But times change.
My only complaints with 10 is it collects data like a phone, was very buggy when it was (most fixed), and there are 2 versions of control panel one that is mobile, and other is the classic. There are times it shows up. Other than that it's fine and I like the newer features like the Hyper-V virtualizer, quicker boot times, mobile app support for running Hulu on my Surface tablet, much better battery life, and quick resume from hibernation times. It works fine now. I whined about the lack of aero but part of it is still there and MS is now working on materials UI that gives a similiar look. It's pretty stable and feels more modern now.
But really old people just complain how it looks or why did they have to change this etc. THis was a terrible story
What MS should do is hire an actual User Interface Designer. I know they haven't had one since at the latest 2002. Vista, 7, 8 and now 10 are all progressively more painful to use and hostile to the user, so it's obvious they don't have one on staff.
I'm not even talking about the crap they try to shove down our throats for marketing purposes, but even down to the little things. The login screen in xp/2000 era was simple: username, password, domain. Then you got vista, where you had to click a button to get the login interface, or click another to change the default user, then hit the right button to login ( instead of the more obvious button which allowed you to change your login account ).
It's absurd. So much so I don't know an admin who doesn't cringe with each new release of windows and office. We know they changed some small UX thing that's going to confuse our users and will result in untold hours in support.
They do. Hipsters under 30 want flat UIs and think bubble gum buttons in 3d look dated. THey want mobile apps and to have the same UI between their phones and their pcs for stuff like Yammer and MS teams. MS is listening to them as well.... old farts like us do not upgrade software like the younglins do so MS is targetting them.
The windows XP/2000 screen looks like a green screen or punch cards with ehhh to anyone under 30.
We will likely use Windows 7 long after EOL. There really aren't any other good options for our business, right now. I'm surprised that nobody else has stepped in to fill the gap, yet.
I was the same. I had to get with the times as people wanted to have me upgrade my MCSE and I hated Vmware workstation with a passion. Hyper-V which is on WIndows 10 was the reason. I found a few bugs last year but they are fixed. Windows 10 is what Windows 8 should have been.
Windows 10 : 1. Lighter and quicker on my hardware and boots silly fast on a ssd 2. Can run Netflix and Hulu on my 2nd monitor or my tablet when I am on a plane when not working through the appstore 3. Has work folders which are pretty cool in setting up offline versions of files with less hassle and bugs than CSC with Windows XP and 7 4. Can use a pin to sign into desktop and tablet which is quicker than a password 5. Supports device lockdown for system admins 6. Supports MDM for intune device settings and lockdowns to run corporate apps securely without a VPN 7. Cached work credentials in addition to a home account for MDM to access corporate resources without a VPN 8. Much better power management 9. Pen support for One Note on my surface
Seriously the story submitter doesn't like change because it looks funny. WTF this is slashdot, not a place where people whine about change and settings. Did we all just age past 40 and no longer coffee drinking coder hipsters from the 1990s anymore?
One of the reasons I stopped using LibreOffice is because it didnt have ribbons. How can you find everything, highlight and preview changes without selecting them, and fit information that doesn't overlap your content or is organized in a logical way.
Seriously it's getting old and unprofessional. I feel slashdot is turning into the ITs version of info wars or Rush Limbaugh with Microsoft as the liberal to rail against complete with it's own alternative reality and facts and everyone else is fake news.
News flash. Don't like Windows don't run it. I may have go to the register or somewhere else if this keeps up.
If you have Office 365 you can download it again free at office.com. Just use your login ID for your account information. One of the good things to using it as a service is you do not have to fiddle with license keys. If you use the home edition go to outlook.com to log into your tenant and download office.
Also there is the Microsoft office uninstaller at Microsoft's website and a vbscript version too that Microsoft uses if you google for it to do a full scrub and clean.
Last if this is in an office then your system administrator is not doing a good job. AutoKMS on A.D. needs to be enabled so that message never pops up.
I switched back to Windows in 2011 as I was tired of things breaking during a Linux distro update.
WIth an ABI or application BInary INterface WIndows, FreeBSD, and MacOSX do not have this problem. You update and it always works. Drivers NEVER have to be re-compiled.
Until this fixes I am sticking with WIndows and keeping Linux on a VM. I do not like to have things break.
No it was not the left or the so called liberal media.
It was the intelligence agencies. I tend to happen to side with them.
Why would you trust the intelligence agencies? Do you need a recap of their track record?
Even if Hillary fucked up (she did with the email server as you and I would be thrown in jail if we did this) and Putin just shared information, it is still collusion with a foreign power and treason to a high degree.
Are we at war with Russia? Or are they our ally? How is diplomacy with a foreign state we are not at war with treasonous?
A nation should not be involved in another nation's election or internal affairs. I will say this hypocritically too as an American as we did evil in the name of good in South America to prevent evil communism with propping up Pinochet in Chile who murdered people!
Why not? It's called diplomacy. The US does it all the time. And if you want to call out examples of when the US does bad things, why stop at one?
It was wrong and Russia not only interfered but had counter intelligence agents whose job was sabotage and espionage during the cold war give the information to Trump Jr. Gee what is wrong with that???!!!
Where's the evidence? It's been almost a year now since these allegations started. Further, was anything exposed false? If Putin himself "hacked" Hillary's emails (and remember - this was all due to a certain moran falling for a phishing email) and hand delivered it to Trump, so what? Putin should be given a damned medal for exposing Hillary's shit.
You'll jump to believe some made up shit about prostitutes and water sports as long as Wolf Blitzer reads it out to you. But when faced with actual evidence of gross misbehavior and wrongdoing, you get into a tizzy about the way someone got caught.
What's the evidence? Have you been watching the news? Let's say Isis and Iran met with an Hillary aide. THey share information to wikileaks just 4 days before the election. Hilary hires her daughter to speak with an Iranian national guard who did espionage work during the Reagan years against the US. Iran wants some sanctions lifted and Isis wants to be recognized.
Boom! Hillary wins by a landslide and 4 more years of liberal rule after all the negative news about Trump suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
Let me ask you this? Would you be somewhat bothered if this were true? I mean ask yourself if this is normal diplomacy and you wouldn't be upset one bit? Or would you be getting your torches and pitchforks and call for investigations and impeachment? We are not at war with Isis or Iran so that is ok right?
I am a democrat so I will disclaim this. But if that were true I would be outraged! I would want her head on a block and have her tried for treason. I know you would too as I assume you are Republican of course. To me this is an American issue not political.
If you support Putin and are not a troll and want to give a medal then you are un-American and a piece of shit as I would not if the reverse were true. I do not want a nation of supporting parties like football teams regardless of the consequences.
No it was not the left or the so called liberal media.
It was the intelligence agencies. I tend to happen to side with them. Even if Hillary fucked up (she did with the email server as you and I would be thrown in jail if we did this) and Putin just shared information, it is still collusion with a foreign power and treason to a high degree.

I live in Texas. Voting is done in churches in some areas and so are meetings with politicians with it's citizens. An obvious way to imploy power from the religious right.
One of the pieces of information that the Trump administration is demanding from the states is how voters voted. They want to know if you voted for Trump or one of his opponents.
Let that sink in for a second. Imaging the Slashdot comments section if a President Clinton or President Obama demanded this same information from the states. Remember, the Constitution gives the power over all US elections to the states.
That is different. Trump has an R next to his name so it's ok. I agree if someone with a D next to his name did that then we would need to impeach and form an armed rebellion as that would be socialist!
Yes sarcasm implied.
Sadly, many on my facebook friends list actually agree with my above comment. Disclaimer I am a Democrat so I am biased, but what keeps me up at night is this super hyper partisanship where it is like cheering for a football team! The fact the right admires Putin and sees nothing wrong scares me. This too and you brought this up as I know if Obama did this every FaceBook meme and AM Radio, infowars, church pastors, and Rush Limbaugh would be freaking out.
I would hope and I know if Trump had a D next to his name you bet I would vote Republican and do whatever in my power to stop him as a private citizen. Not because he is conservative, but because he is incompetent, not intelligent enough, and too psychologically unstable and collusion with a foreign power.
Yes I know I am probably going to be modded -1 by Republican moderators here, but I stand by what I said if Trump were running as a democrat (infact he was a democrat for most of his life).
This is scary stuff regardless and the problem is not a president trying to find digs on voters and potential enemies, but rather half the country doesn't care or is supportive based on someone just because he is a Republican and gosh jolly that is my football team so I must support it attitude.
Agreed, but it's a losing war to try and point out things in objective reality here. Not a lot of actual professional programmers around these parts.
Outside of Slashdot most professional programmers use Visual Studio and Windows with a smaller section still using Eclipse somewhere in a tiny section of the office on older macs.
Microsoft is trying not to loose the young developers who are making mobile and web apps. VS 2015 even includes an Android emulator for mobile app development.
Look it's going to be done by the corporate media companies.
Are you going to help them make it more open or will they push Adobe and Silverlight plugins and proprietary codecs? The old 1980's phrase Money talks Shit walks is more truth than you can imagine. No one cares what a few hippies on a website think.
Investors will pour money and demand DRM or will pull their cash. If you won't be part of the solution you are part of the problem and you can kiss the web goodbye and Linux goodbye as they push malware ridden codecs and plugins for content viewing.

Drivers NEVER have to be re-compiled.
False. You just make yourself dependent on the good will of vendors to perform the builds for you, since they won't let you have the sources.
Not really. A driver from 2009 will just work on Windows 10. Can't say the same for my ATI 5770

Gamers Nexus did 2 videos comparing a 2008 era i7 and a 2011 era 2600k and the AMD was lacking in many benchmarks and games.
My citations are here and here where the 2600k beats the newer Ryzen even further?
I was entertaining the idea of upgrading to an 1800 but my 2014 haswell is just faster unless you do just video editing
GPU speeds things up quite a bit. Even with Intel graphics. Throwing everything on the cpu makes things like a browser a chop chop fest.

Funny I found the opposite. Vmware doesn't use shared memory under Windows hosts
