I say you're not smart as you fail to recognize you live in a bubble fed by slashdot microchamber feeding things you want to hear while ignoring reality.
You insult the GP as stupid but and assume everyone uses Linux by now and LOOVES Libreoffice as the next coming of Christ while it lacks features like pixel perfect text rendering that Word 2.0 had.
People LOVE Office and Windows. They like their cute Free/Busy appointments reminders in Outlook. They like to reserve conference rooms with ease with Office 365.
They want their shitty Walmart inkjet to plug in and just work. They want to kill people in Fortnight.
To them that is Freedom. Linux and Libreoffice is tyranny.
99% of PC users agree and do not want or need to deal with that shit storm called Gnome 3 or KDE.
Linux had 20 years to win the desktop. We got one with Ubuntu 13 years ago. Then we killed ourselves with gnome 3, kde 4, pulse audio, etc.
I am not pro Windows fan and far from it. But the pro version you can delay updates which I have done for feature for 140 days and security for 7 days in case some bad security update is released it usually gets pulled back before 7.
I had no issues with Windows 10 reliability since 2016 or so. I laugh at my old posts as 2015 was a mess. LTSB includes the older bugs and enterprise really is not that much different than the home or pro. I like the Linux support through WSL in the newer releases and Hyper-V and update control from the pro versions. But, I agree home has been updated too much. Microsoft is slowly introducing QA through update and I do find it unacceptable to tell users not to click Update as a broken feature update might get pushed.
FYI if you leave it alone since October Windows 10 will not update if it detects older hardware without recent drivers (looking at you Intel Graphics!) to prevent this.
But that is my use case. At work we had some issues with older HP units from 2012 well out of warranty where they refused to update the drivers to work with newer 10 editions but that is it.
But there is the newer LTSC released in last couple of months.
It is not hard to enable Windows store for LTSC/LTSB.
I gave it a shot. It took 3 hours to update one machine and we couldn't get OneNote nor an app some site used that was from the appstore. I think looking forward in time 2 to 5 years from now (normal image lifespan) that the WindowsStore will have a larger role. If a user has to install something without admin rights we know it will contain malware from the store. Vendors are slowly moving to it too.
Linux support is important for many slashdotters too which is nice.
Your wife is good. She uses her up to date Mac to browse the web and do work outside of her proprietary app.
I replaced to that poster saying it is a mess. I am not a Microsoft apologist but he made a poor generalization because of his one corrupted install. FYI running a feature update will break machines where Realtek or Intel do not update the drivers. Windows Update by default now will ignore the latest Windows 10 versions after probably for Intel display drivers and realtek audio and just put in security so I would not worry if you do have to run 10.
Enterprises have been quietly migrating to 10 for a few years now with no issues. It is much smoother than the transition from XP to 7. 7 is a very different beast than XP due to security, active directory, and driver models that caused many problems back in 2013/2014. It is not the same this time around at the same level.
You're kidding right? EOL in one year? They have already been failing miserably to keep it secure ever since the "Vault 7" NSA weapons release hit the interwebs.
Yes. 1/2020 is EOL and will no longer get security updates.
I bet you have never even seen a minicomputer, and think the world stands for a Mac mini.
I worked in music and film production, craft businesses, and manufacturing. I know all the shity cancer of industry-specific software out there. I even wrote some of it. (For warehouse management, color mixing machines, custom data management, and similar small side-gigs.)
And they all either got replaced by server-side software that runs on large metal linux boxen, by small single-board computer gadgets with client/web interfaces, have never been Windows software (like film/music/3D software), or are more and more moving away from Windows.
Nowadays, Windows has only two domains left: * Businesses too young/small for big iron and a Unix history and * too old/big for sucking Apple dick. So basically just boring medium/small companies ran by PHBs.
You're dreaming buddy. Software on Linux for audio mixing doesn't even support channel mixing WTF the last time I looked. Also people like Microsoft Office. That is Windows or Mac at this point.
Everyone who needs to get work down buys a PC with Windows. End of discussion. Unix lost in the 1980s sorry.
Yet enterprises have been migrated quietly just fine for years now.
We had some issues where I work presently with some ancient hardware driver but the rest is just certification from our developers who are too lazy to test it. Other companies I worked at upgraded without a problem.
This isn't anything like XP which required different forest levels and GPOs being redone from adm to admX and domains. 10 is much closer to 7 than 7 was to XP. FYI your PC problems sound like you corrupted your install and is not indicative of a poor Windows release. I see people bash 10 because they keep hiting restart when Windows is updating and then complain it breaks.
Run the troubleshooter for Windows Update in your settings menu and it will fix your issue 80% of the time. FYI your hardware may not be compatible with the latest version of Windows 10 (1809). Never run a feature update as you will be a beta tester. 1809 requires Haswell or newer CPU 4xxx series and the latest intel drivers which could be your problem too.
LTSB is not recommended. No Linux support, slow as fuck Windows Update, No Windows Store which is a problem for Office 2019 as Sway and OneNote have moved to the Store only, and many other countless updates since 2015.
FU you're not taking my guns and my money. I want freedom! The problem will solve itself with the Bacon as long as we don't do anything. Just ask any Republican?
Agreed. Worse it subjects poor folks and those out of luck with gaps on their all precious resumes to exploitation.
Could a Star Trek like Utopia exists where people do what we they want yet food and products exist to consume. Automation will help but you saw the comments here? The jobs they replace WILL NEVER get subsidized based on greed. The cycle repeats.
That's actually not true. Rates were doubling many times more than inflation pre-Obama care. The costs have gone down. The problem was shitty junk plans were scrapped and those angry folks blamed Obama.
It is coming back again. Look at Microsoft who we LOVE to bash. Office 2016 reintroduced a radical concept of colors. Office 2019 has 2007 style icons again here.
I just re-imaged my PC this weekend and went into Chrome to set the old UI back. I am pretty pissed and now I know why I can't find the settings
Call me cynical. Nvidia did this shit with gsync and charged a $209 premium while freesync is free. My guess is Nvidia will put a $200 charge and a special chip which uses a proprietory protocol to talk with Nvidia cloud and your GeForce driver software to stream the games.
Once you're hooked it will be hard to leave as you will purchase the cloud games and will lose them if you go to AMD.
Nvidia has been slimy for awhile and their new rtx 20xx shows no different
An expensive pro Sumer grade router like my Cisco ac1900 for home works wonders. You don't need a gaming one. Just a good one with a decent CPU and network acceleration chips in it.
I use AMD and don't have this problem. If you go to YouTube and check for example a 1060 vs Rx 580 you will see the AMD is more fluid and less choppy regardless of fps.
Also the fps for the 1060 is now crap compared to the RX 590 and 580 if you look at a recent video. GeForce drivers went to shit somewhere
I like my AMD more than my GTX 680 I replaced. The drivers are much better quality and I have much less issues and no latency lag or Windows 10 bugs related to the Nvidia drivers.
I think the tide has turned and the shitty AMD catalyst drivers were retired years ago. They are totally redone.
God I swear I will never buy another product by them. If the new rtx 2070 being a revamped 2060 sold at an 2080 price being $600 for economical isn't bad enough. A rumored 2060 being $399 with ram so low it can't go beyond 1080P for their low end card!
Now +$1000 plus for any decent gpu, $200 gsynch surcharges, proprietory Cuda, cheating benchmarks by making rgb 10-254 instead of 0 - 254 and compressing colors to make AMD look slow, to sending gaming companies engineers to ruin their engines on AMD hardware to cheat on more benchmarks, to rtx 20xx dying, to paying reviewers like Tech of tomorrow, linusctech tips, and Jay2cents to lie with statements like the 2080ti is the new ititan so $1300 for a gaming card is ok etc, to now this?!
Jesus. They are turning into the Apple of pc gaming too with their fanboys willing to open their wallets and laugh at AMD too. Good ridance
They are a threat to PC gaming at this point as the console now is starting to look attractive again like it's 2003 all over.
Well frankly the Democrats weren't pro Trump enough which is my important than killing off the gulf of Mexico. Both Republican candidates had red hats and warned of scary liberals.
So the population spoke which is made up of white rednecks
2012 was the heart of the financial crises and great recession. Italy had unemployment rates close to 20%. The CEO and the shareholders needed to keep their bonuses and the spreadsheets looking good.
The best way to do this is always outsourcing IT as it adds no follow the shareholders or the executives who want to keep their jobs and money.
I say you're not smart as you fail to recognize you live in a bubble fed by slashdot microchamber feeding things you want to hear while ignoring reality.

Linux is a server and IOT OS. Get real
That reminds me. I could use a suggestion for a host file APK. Any ideas if I should create one?
Funny. They are copying from edge after copying the horrible tabs from Firefox lol. Dark mode rocks on Edge and Windows Explorer.
They do not even have to make it default. I just want the option to put it back as it makes it easier to sort through tabs

Windows 7 goes EOL in 1 year. Yikes. Even XP was surprised by 7 several years before it hit retirement.
FU you're not taking my guns and my money. I want freedom! The problem will solve itself with the Bacon as long as we don't do anything. Just ask any Republican?

That is because you don't have a fresh install.
I supposed I could try to sprawl the net for the registry keys to change it back. Fckming ridiculous!

Just Google engineers justifying keeping their jobs by sake for the sake of change
