When you put "the" or "to" in a quoted phrase the "+" sign doesn't always work how it should. Or maybe its the quotes that don't always work correctly. Either way I get iffy results when I need to combine a plus and quotes.
Ahh, the old "if you don't lock your doors, you deserve to get robbed" line. For one, most people DON'T know how to chmod, and just use whatever the default that the admin set up for user accounts (should we blame that guy?), and on the other hand, in a community of TRUST and openness they should be able to leave their files however they please for their own easy access (say through a web page).
I believe it was the Dodge Neon that topped out at about 118 due to computer control. I don't have any documentation on hand but I think it was Consumer Reports that mentioned it.
For some reason when I was in college I hardly got any spam (just that toner cartridges guy). The spammers seemed to avoid.edu addresses, I guess maybe some colleges were quicker about blocking that stuff or getting their account canceled.
Maybe they should work the angle that code is expressive because anything that can be expressed in code can just as easily be expressed in English or Mathematics. All it is is a sequential set of instructions and there have even been translators written to convert various programming languages from code to English and back. So by banning code you are banning sequential lists of instructions in English since they are one in the same.
And notice what the VCR industry did in response? They made it easier to set the clock, either through on screen menus or by setting the clock automatically for you. And notice they did this without removing any functionality. Thats what the computer industry needs, to make computers that are easier to sue and harder to break without removing needed functionality.
This whole hack vs crack thing is on the whole very stupid and shortsighted. Languages change and evolve, accept it. Words change meaning, fighint this hack vs. crack war is like people who get annoyed at split infinitives or the fact that the word 'gay' has pretty much changed meanings since the 50's. All it does is make certain computer uses look like uptight nitpickers and evokes images of the comic shop owner on the Simpsons.
How are these statements about the dangers of the internet any different from what officials of the US government have said time and time again? Bush and Ashcroft in particular have had some classic quotes about how the internet can turn a child's heart black, etc.. For once it seems the Chinese and Us governments are in total agreement.
There is a 4 and 6 pin plug. The 4 pin has no power on it. I think my PS2 has a 4 pin plug on it.

Well, the PS2 has Firewire, so I am sure someone will write drivers for Firewire HD's. The only thing is it seems that the Linux community has more experience writing USB drivers (just my impresison, could be wrong) so I would assume that they would come first. And for gaming I would think 12Mbit/sec would be sufficient.
Its sort of like the IP protocol, which needs TCP built on top of it to guarantee that all packets are delivered properly. This make their protocol very flexible and lets others build on top of it just like TCP/IP was built.
Shouldn't it be "all your base and lustful urge must be controlled" or even better "all your base and lustful urge must are be controlled"

Most people can't use filters. Excluding the high usage of Linux/BSD/Unix among Slashdotters, a lot of people use Outlook Express and AOL. I'd love to get filters in OE, but as far as I know it doesn't have them. What I'd really like is for the company that makes the mail server software I use to include the ability to filter based on a server being in the RBL.
btw, i think your analogy sucks. i think it would be more akin to every business owner in the city calling you on the telephone to tell you about the great deals they have. eventually you dread answering the phone because you know it's just going to be more crap to waste your time. THAT is what spam is akin to.
Gee, I'm glad no businesses in the USA ever resort to tactics like that to sell their products.

Remember that Javascript (well, JScript actually) can be used with ASP. And I find it much easier to develop in than VBScript.
Shit, the large versions of those pictures look better than what I'm capable of taking now.

Can you also write "Return to Sender" on junk mail that is addressed to you? Or will that screw up your regular mail delivery?
I kind of like Canadian speakers myself, Paradigm, etc.
Damn, this is one of the best trolls I've seen here in a while.

The reason usenet is dead/dying is because of spam however. Its a shame, on the whole I like newsgroups better than web message boards.
