  2. Re:uhh no on Anime And The Tech Lifestyle · · Score: 1

dude, there's nothing wrong with DBZ.
yes, the characters talk too much,
and yes in a way its pretty much a "big wwf" situation.
sure there's not much "deep" character development, but who cares?
Hell, haven't you ever gone to see any Seagal or Van Damme flick just for the hell of it? I know there isn't much more to those movies than a single person going around kicking the %#^% out of everybody.
DBZ is anime thats meant to be enjoyable on a "pointless random violence" scale.
And I rather enjoy watching DBZ, despite the fact that it irks me that they take entire episodes to do ANYTHING sometimes, though they got better after the Frieza saga (which is the only one they show on cartoon network) The Frieza saga had to be the longest and most drawn out (i'd even say boring) battle i've ever seen.
    but anyways, getting off subject...
the point is, all anime doesn't have to have intricate plot and deep characters and wordly harmonious messages. Sometimes ya just wanna chill with some random action movies/anime, and DBZ is good at that (with a decent comic relief at most times)

actually, Atom and His Package isn't all that obscure...in fact, its quite popular among college students...that guy gets alot of attention via college word-of-mouth aka, if he was really obscure, you probably wouldn't see him being mentioned here so often.

Sheesh, are they TRYING to ruin ppl's holidays or something?

  5. target enduser is different on Let's Make UNIX Not Suck · · Score: 1

The dude is right...UNIX and its variants are a small part of the market because their target end-user is the advanced/expert programmer, not the Average Joe Schmoe who prefers a pretty GUI interface and simple usability.
It's not that UNIX sucks...its more that it simply sucks for a particular kind of ppl (namely your average computer illiterate end-user) whereas Windows on the other hand any 6 year old can use.
Most people favor simplicity over anything (stability, power, usefulness, etc). And despite the fact old-school UNIX zealots will jump all over this one, GUIs and "helpful hints" and user-friendly crap like that _are_ easier for 90% of the population to deal with (and is one of the largest reasons windows holds onto a majority of the users out there...well that and the gaming issue...damn i wish more games were ported to Linux/UNIX)

I was wondering about that "via a modem" thing too.

I wonder if that means they don't have the patent to do this over regular LAN connections (ethernet cards aren't modems)

  7. Re:Bias on Slashback: Rumination, Apologies, Kisses · · Score: 1

    Dude, there's obvious bias...
The judge is CLEARLY uninformed (and most likely a technophobe as well)
Its not that Napster hasn't proven its point either (which I think they could have gone about better anyhow)...its that the judge/court/law/whatever is UNWILLING to LISTEN. I don't know how many times the damn judge interrupted Boies when he was talking in that excerpt.
Such requests as "fix it overnight" and "sure, just filter out the bad stuff" obviously shows that this guy is either a complete technological nitwit, or that the courts are doing nothing except intentionally aiming to shut Napster down.
If its the former (technological ineptitude), which I suspect, I think it could have easily been avoided had Napster's lawyers been smart enough to actually "humor" their dumbed-down audience...instead of using terms like "peer-to-peer" and throwing techical diagrams or code at ppl who obviously probly can't even turn a computer on, they should have simply used analogies that the court could understand...like the comparison of Napster being just like internet search engines, etc.
A "dummy" grounds for comparison would have went a long way in the Napster case.
*smirk* maybe you just have to print all debatable code on shirts nowadays to get any of those legal computer illiterates out there to actually grow a brain.

  9. Piecewise Construction on Zvezda ISS Service Module Launches · · Score: 1

Merely a commentary... MIR outlived its usefulness during the time it was up in space. Won't the ISS also become obsolete over time? A new part/module every year or so means that the initial parts/modules are gonna be obsolete by the time the thing gets fully assembled. Its like building a computer by adding 1 component every few months. After a year or 2, the thing you finally built is gonna be a piece of crap, especially if you put in the cpu/motherboard (main support module) first. My 2 cents, Magius_AR
