    In Pittsburgh, the Feds approved an extension of the light rail system to the NorthShore which is home to football and baseball teams and... a casino. The politicians didn't even want it! But since the money was already appropriated... they are building it anyways.

    That goes along with a billion dollar airport which is basically EMPTY. Only in America!

    Have you ever seen a SharePoint URL? I've yet to see one less than like 200 characters... tinyurl.com is used because its such a cluster. Once again... Microsoft forgetting about those tiny details.

    Java, Python, Perl and Shell scripts are used to program this thing? I just can't understand a development team shunning XP Pro and .NET. The shelf life was suppose to be 1 year - isn't that about right for a .Net application before permanent and complete failure??

    You have to serve the client who is paying the bills - and we had a very vocal one (Nik*). We had a running joke about the release d'jour. But it wasn't a joke. We literally would push a new build to them every day which contained minor bug fixes. It was maddening! But no one had the balls to stand up to the 800lb gorilla, so the madness continued. As a side-note, they were acting as a beta tester and anyone in the software business knows what that can mean.

    They signed a series of expensive coal contracts in the 70's (western low sulfur coal) and got burned... big time. Hence... when the gov't came around and asked for volunteers for nuclear power - they jumped on it just to get out of the BAD business decision that was made. Don't think for a second it was because of concerns for the environment.

    You know she had known ties to Chechnya separtists - so I think she is a bad example. I just don't understand why Putin goes after anyone who has ties to the Chechnya rebellion whereas he's glad handing the Iranians who support them? Seems like a dysfunctional foreign policy.

    Talking about a guy obsessed w/ technology... he spent heavily to have the latest video technology in the late 70's. And his "musical director", Roger Powell had a Imsai 8080 controlling a Serge modular via CV/Gate w/ a customized A/D converter into an Apple II w/ a crude sequencer program written in assembler. He later moved it to the PC and released it as "Texture".

    Its kinda too bad. Their music suffered during this period. Obviously they were spending the majority of their time on these side projects.

    Spitzer is doing nothing but making enemy's. And you know why congress can't pass legislation... the dem's from Michigan will stop any stringent emission standards cold.

    But I really love the staes of NJ, NY, PA, etc. suing the EPA over pollution coming from midwestern states. What a bunch of hypocrites. I hope the UK sues them for their pollution.

    Sad but true... but its PowerMac/Mac Pro all the way w/ me now. They even tried to cripple the MDD's and now after nearly 4 years Sonnet is coming up w/ upgrade cards. It is still cost-effective to go pro, though. The 9800Pro is put in my G4 dramatically improved performance. And really... $2500 for a computer you can get 5 years (or more) out of... that's pretty good bang for the buck.

    I think they use the 60 votes thing is to make it veto-proof. Filibusters only work when the executive branch is controlled by the opposite party.

    Moscow is the most expensive city in the world! St. Petersburg is almost as bad (or good depending on perspective). But, their economy is based on the price of a barrel of oil which is fine for now - its where they take it from here.

    Well... if your so concerned why not do something about it? I know a guy in rural WV who built out his own cable TV system in the 90's. He made a bought load of money when he sold out to Time Warner. And now they provide Roadrunner over the cable lines he ran.

    I also know of a person who lives in rural Ohio, who suffered the same fate as you and didn't have a neighbor who built his own. Big companies refused to run cable forcing everyone to dish's. No broadband will probably ever make it to his home.

    I dunno... I took a cab from LaGuardia bound for Manhattan one sunny afternoon and I swear he had to have been hitting 70 going down 5th Avenue. Scariest ride of my life.
