I have a simple concept: If you don't like that Linux Kernel (note the deliberate omission of GNU/) is developed with Bitkeeper, use BSD or something else!
You know, I thought abortion activists were airheads God help us if the Linux (again note the prominent omission) community joins with the anti-fur or abortion league...
Here's to the "Mind your own godamn business" Faction! Power to the people!
I can A) Patent it and non-exclusively license it (giving me the option to license it for open source initiatives, thus freeing my conscience and still feeding my family) Or B) Give it away and be hailed as a hero at my funeral because I died of starvation from lack of money.
He is a complete zealot who was left out of the lime-light and is jealous and forlone.
His GNU Tools are great; I use them, I use linux too. I call the thing Linux because it was the LINUX kernel which took the gnu tools and made it USEFUL as a stand-alone system.
Richard Stallman is the ANTI-THESIS of his OWN beliefs in insisting things be done his way. Freedom of SPEECH dictates I can call it Lizard-Shit/Linux and get away with it. Hmm.. Come to think of it...
Anyway,
I despise true believers... religious or otherwise.
300 bucks worth of digital sound equipment and you'll have a set-up to rip.
Unless these jerks figure out some way to alter the way sound is heard there is NO fool proof way of stopping this. That includes MicroSkunk's "Digital Rights Operation System".
Called Accelerator Pro, the cheap (Read: Free) version will download the same file from 8 different sites to speed things up. Works great. My slow-ass T1 (Sigh, only 160K/Second downloads) is too slow when I'm moving my (cough) 500+ meg 'recreational entertainment' files to and from 'casual onlookers' isn't enough for me anymore.
You know. I joined in at around PERL3 because going with C++ to do some tasks was just a pain in the ass.
After looking at what Perl6 is going to do, I feel I have to agree with you. My feeling is that the gadget mania needs to be put to rest.
Please remember:
(Quote from the PERL FAQ Written by Tom Christiansen and Nathan Torkington)
Perl is a high-level programming language with an eclectic heritage written by Larry Wall and a cast of thousands. It derives from the ubiquitous C programming language and to a lesser extent from sed, awk, the Unix shell, and at least a dozen other tools and languages. Perl's process, file, and text manipulation facilities make it particularly well-suited for tasks involving quick prototyping, system utilities, software tools, system management tasks, database access, graphical programming, networking, and world wide web programming. These strengths make it especially popular with system administrators and CGI script authors, but mathematicians, geneticists, journalists, and even managers also use Perl. Maybe you should, too.
I chose to quote this because of the key words:
"Perl's process... particularly well-suited..."
And also EASY.
$^_ + $^_
is alot more mysterious then
sub { $_[0] + $_[1] }
Remember something, System Administrators don't have time to guess. EASY is what Perl is.
Not to be picky (Warning: I agree that the DMCA is immoral don't lynch me)
But the law is the law and you don't selectively enforce the law based on what you feel is right or wrong. You challenge the law and get it removed.
some sort of quasi non Apple-lawyer-bait version of the plugin system used in OS(insertnumberhereorromannumeralhere) should be devised for linux. I think that would solve this problem
Assuming that at least one thing that the bsd/linux/alternative os movement can agree on is that there must be a viable alternative for wintel.
If you recall when VB was "the" language for writing for windows. There was a dll called VBRun.dll that needed to be on every local machine that executed VB apps. If you installed vbrun300.dll and had a program which was compiled using VBrun400.dll you were out of luck.
I only use wintel solutions where I absolutelly have to. My home computer's an SGI O2. My office real work computer is an i386 running Debian (The only real distro:P). However, I have at my actual desk in the office a Windows 98 box simply so the potatoe brains around me who occasionally need to use my desktop can get around and leave me in peace.
Using the VBrun example above, I think we need to start looking at a simalar situation for glib. IE find some friggin way to compact and package it with the programs for the potatoe brains invading linuxspace and leave a more robust solution for the intelligent amongst us.
I feel that Congressional oversight merely supports the point that ICANN should be USCANN or rather RESTOFTHEWORLDCANNT . This is proof that American companies through lobbying control ICANN.
Every judgement, comment, and position which comes from ICANN that is detrimental to someone with money is going to be brought and scrutinized by the US Congress. What we have here is a poorly masked attempt by our Draconian (and getting worse with George Retard W. Bush stealing the White House) goverment to keep control of the Internet's overseers.
What Kevin's crimes were was actually not the issue in the reason he received so much attention. I feel the real issues were:
The media (specifically one nitwit reporter who's name I forget at the moment) defaced the truth of the story to make it more exciting.
The companies Kevin hacked into; The misrepresentation of how much and how important.
Most seriously, the government; They made a mockery of "due process". I do agree that Kevin must be pretty retarded for not stopping after getting caught, canned, and released so much, but, if the government wanted to lock his ass up for a few years, least they could've done is come up with a way to do it without violating the Bill of Rights...
I used to use something called What-Up Gold by IP-Switch. Its an awesome network monitoring software package that can do fun things like page your cell phone and e-mail you when stuff doesn't stay up, it has a really good logging system and is basically very well configurable. http://www.ipswitch.com

Umm.
Lets see now:
I can A) Patent it and non-exclusively license it (giving me the option to license it for open source initiatives, thus freeing my conscience and still feeding my family)
Or B) Give it away and be hailed as a hero at my funeral because I died of starvation from lack of money.
Personally, I go for choice A,
Anyone else?

FreeBSD version is released (mutter 2 disks, mutter)
My friend who is a huge pain in my ass doesn't even put floppy drives in anymore..
At this point I think I include them only because I'm programmed like a lemming to put them in as part of the process...
As long as it took me to write this post.

IF MS writes it, we'll crack it.

(LOL)
It probably is actually checking the signature as opposed to the file name.
They CAN'T be that dumb.

declared I was totally happy with Perl5.
Oh well... I'm just whining over the _ . thing.
