Not into the first post crap. If you look at my profile I'm not exactly a prolific poster.
My comment was more more of an insinuation. I can see that some guy looking to get rich quick through rehashing an existing idea is heading down the road of 'make a buck via the lawyer'.
If you fail to see that, then consider what I see as the likely path: Company sets this up, secures some obscure patent. Company then waits for some other money-grubber to try and make similar concept. Company sues. New Slashdot story.
Oh I agree with you. I suppose I have nothing against the concept (rehashed though it might be). I've been in my 'Disgusted with Lawyers' mood for the last couple of days and this article was the next target.
I'm all for trying new concepts, but pardon my disgust. I'm an entrepreneur myself and I understand money makes the world go-round, but I shudder to think where we'd all be if the guys who came up with Apache were trying to start it now.
D-Mail, G-Mail, PurplePokaDotMail are just more examples of someone trying to create, patent, exploit, etcetera when there are far more ethical and lucrative methods of making money. Of course this relies on people getting thier heads out of thier proverbial asses, but what can you do?
The western world as a whole is sadly losing more and more of it's technilogical, educational, economincal, and advantages by succumbing to the short-sighted benefits of outsourcing.
What does America produce anymore? What does any other Western country produce? Food? Consumers? It is Very depressing watching this trend. It's more depressing watching my father-in-law, a damn hard working family man lose his job just because he's getting older to some unskilled person outside of my country.
I could go on, but I'm not trying to start a flame..
No, in a perfect world you can't. You're right that I and many others are being hypocritical about this.
I replied to a similiar comment in another thread, but I want to add this here as well: The patent system is so screwed up by lawyers that we're stuck using whatever tools we have to fight. If that means using the other edge of the sword on the RIAA, then so be it.
You have a god point, but you need to consider something:
We are far gone down the 'Lawyers Rule' system of government nowdays. As assinine as the whole patent system is right now, I think it's important the prolific abusers of this system (RIAA, MPAA, Micromule, Amazon, etc) get reemed by the other edge of the sword they use on us.
Like I said in my earlier post, get out the pitch forks and torches!
This is just a completely perfect example of why Lawyers should be burned.
To hell with the SPIRIT of the law. We're lawyers and we need to follow the LETTER of the law. Assholes like this need to be burned from the godamned stake in the middle of the White House lawn.
I do read the BBC, just not as often as the others.. I enjoy the outside opinion, but for some dumbass reason it doesn't always wind up on my daily list of to-dos.
I worked at a company so pig-headed once they wouldn't let me write what would've taken me about 2 hours in PERL a simple reorganization and tabulation program. They said PERL is unstable and innapropriate. All of "OUR" code should be compiled and in industrial strength languages.
I was so angry, I called them a bunch of idiot morons, walked to my desk, grabbed my valuables (Picture of wife, r00t mug) and walked out.
Just as a personal retort to the moderator: I disagree with you giving me a flamebait moderation.
I think its a clear fact that there is a problem the western world deals so closely with countries that are just short of openly hostile in so many ways.
...in a country that oppresses the hell out of it's people, openly thwarts western policy and is run by a group of people that trully believe they are the "Middle Kingdom".
God I can't believe how stupid we are.
Just what we need

I hope that shows how and why my comment relates.

With all the crap Tivo and similar services are getting from the monopolies, I'm not surprised that any merger or buyout would run into problems.
Which is precisely why I shop at places like Whole Foods for my Groceries and at many specialty shops for my various other needs.
Quality, Service, THEN price.

You know? It's been soo damned long since I read a hard paper magazine..
What I -DO- read on a daily basis though:
cnn.com
wired.com
userfriendly.com (lol)
slashdot.org
Honestly, at least for myself, I find paper magazines to be useless, out of date, and pointless. Even the p0rn is old! (lol again)
I play a few games religiously like Bushido Blade 1 and 2 that are PS1 games on my PS2. I also use some of the final fantasy remake games on my PS2.
Would be a crying shame if they did kill the compat. I don't buy microgarbage anyway so if they do kill it, no skin off my back.
But I am just SEETHING.
I am totally friging ENRAGED BY this. How can those fucking son of a bitches get away with doing this to some poor fucking kid?
We need to uprise as a society and fucking drag those assholes into the street and gut them where they stand.
@#$#@$

Well considering my wife reads Slash and I'm not really up for a divorce, I'll say it was the astro ...
And by god. I was actually impressed with this processor and the Transmeta booth in general.
Though it was small it was:
1) Manned by a really hot and nice chick! (always important).
2) Showed off what has been unanimously voted "My next laptop" by half of my company.
3) Actually contained a chip they let you hold. 1 word: SMALL
He wrote a book called Trekies and contrary to popular belief he doesnt have all that much disdain.
I was just hoping to sell Moon Cheese too! Its a conspiracy I tell you to prevent me from selling "Premium Products" via ONE TIME OFFER E-Mails :P

While I'm not a fan of toshiba laptops, I am glad to see a major manufacturer pushing this technology.
Batteries quite frankly suck and I travel alot. Expect at least 1 customer (me) to buy one of those fuel cell laptops.
One thing I do wonder though, is environmentally how will a disposed of fuel cell treat the environment as opposed to a disposed of battery?

I love America...
Then I would have something to do while I wait around for my peons to build my base...
