I'm not saying that an armed uprising would be automatically successful, but I assure you that there would be a) plenty of people in the army who agreed with it, and b) a vastly greater number that wouldn't want to go slaughtering countrymen wholesale.

Of course I'm referring to an uprising of any substantial clout here... a small militia wouldn't even give the militarized police forces a run for their money. There comes a point where the soldiers actually start to question the blood bath.

    Well that's just not true.

The US automotive industry certainly didn't discourage the continuation of low population density areas but it had absolutely nothing what-so-ever to do with their creation.

The low density started when farming/fishing and the fur trade was ubiquitous. Earlier than that it started when nomads travelled large distances to track fauna for subsistence living.

You might think that's being overly pedantic on that matter but it isn't. The US had a much different history than Europe did. The US didn't colonize "naturally", it did so very forcefully and quickly by foreign pressures. That history is reflected in the layout of it's population.

Well that's an interesting question: whether the stuck in their ways is due to having experienced years of life or being angry at young people because of what they've lost.

However, as far as physical age is concerned, all evidence points to any biological immortality coming with/from a lack of aging. Specifically lab tests with telomerase shows reversal of physical age in mice, and similar in jellyfish. Any digital form of immortality will probably come with a vast reduction in power requirements vs. a biological immortality and would also do away with any physical limitations as well as expanding the available neural network space (to an effectively limitless value)

Now I'm firmly of the belief that old people are pricks because they're angry at the world (who wouldn't be when you're reminded constantly of how useless you are). It follows that extending life indefinitely would not cause the same kind of attitude if the physical age did not come with it.

However, it's just as possible that it is a mental state that comes from weak minds believing they're more experienced than others after having lived so long. That wouldn't be helped by a lack of physical age and your concern would be most imperative.

I admit to being biased towards good immortality, because I fully hope to take advantage of it...

Apple doesn't give two shits about Siri competition. They bought Siri so that they would have something no one else did. It worked, people were interested.

The only thing apple ever cares about is selling more hardware. If Evi sells more hardware Apple will embrace it without hesitation.

What Apple won't do, is allow a shitty, broken and useless clone of Siri that looks way too similar continue to be sold on the app store. Someone that doesn't own an iPhone could witness someone using that piece of shit and confuse it with Siri, thereby getting the impression that Siri is as hopelessly useless as Evi.

Now since I actually do things for a living, my iPad is both paid for by my company and even if it wasn't a buck fifty a day to keep something I use several hours a day up to date is a fantastic deal... I use my car less than that and it costs a hell of a lot more.

As for them finding the specific LCD screen, you've clearly never paid attention to the lead-up to an apple product release.

The iPad's strength is in all of the other stuff it can do, and everyone I know that owns one (myself included of course) will be buying the 3 if the display is better and the speed bump is 2x or better.
