I think that what makes the Russians reluctant is that they are sinking their money and experience in what is, to all intents and purposes, an American space station, "international" moniker notwithstanding.
Yep, and as far as I know, the Apollo program didn't accomplish anything either, besides the publicity stunt. And neither has the Space Shuttle, for that matter, besides some fancy pyrotechnics from one of them... And neither has Hubble, besides some cool wallpaper images, and Pathfinder was just another useless publicity stunt...
The difference is, most games out there are never patched and never finished, or patched once and forgotten. I can think of no other company which would still work on patches one year after the official release (other than, of course, persistant universe games, like EverQuest).
Sounds already more interesting than golf, tennis, ping-pong, chess, checkers, backgammon, football, soccer, basketball and any of the "Build some shit and send it rushing to the enemy base" RTS games...
If you don't like Quake, don't fucking play Quake. What's so difficult about that concept that you cannot get your head around it?
Similar charts would be great / neat / mind-blowing for both RAM and 'processing power' (though deciding on the unit to measure might be tricky, since processors are not a strict 'x amount of processing'...
Why not MIPS per $? That sounds like it would be fair enough...
In the current system, *everybody* can have their lips around the tap, guzzle it all down, and it still doesn't run out for anybody. That's the beauty of information against material goods.
Thanks to the current model, we have a wealth of free information out there, which probably wouldn't have happened if mechanisms for fee collection had been in place from the beginning.
I totally, wholeheartedly agree with the original poster. Xanadu getting a head start on HTML would have been a tragedy.
The end of the tether should be on top of a mountain or a really tall tower. Iain Banks suggests a tower 25 kilometers high. If you can make the tether, probably you can make the tower without much of a problem.
Was that in jest? The VWs use SGI's Cobalt chip for some gigantic I/O performance... No AGP anywhere, although I think the SCSI card is on a PCI slot (I could be horribly wrong, too).
Oh, I see... Yep, that's just fucked up.
If Bill Gates bought MIR and retrofitted it, I may almost forgive him for his sins...

What are you talking about? MIR is 13 years old...

Sheesh, some people...
Clever sig. My neck hurts now...
Yep, I'm sure John Carmack is stealing credit card numbers from all those Quake servers... LOL.

Geez, some people...
It pisses me off when people who can't spell dis other people's grammar...
Why not MIPS per $? That sounds like it would be fair enough...
Bad metaphor.

Now is the time to reverse some of the evil, useless and stupid changes wrought upon the company for no good reason...
Plus is most definitely derived from Latin...
So where does the second "i" in virii come from?
Oh, let me guess...
1 virus, 2 virii, 3 viriii, 4 viriv...
If you are going to grammar-flame, make sure you at least know your grammar...

Heh. Having been born and raised in a Catholic country, I find that the Catholic Church is evil, but not stupid.
:)
For stupid, you have to look at some other Christian denominations...
They can teach creationism all they want, in the History or Religion classes, but not on Science classes.
Religious beliefs are all well and good, but they have no place in a science curriculum.
A) Because they make me to.
B) Because Photoshop on SGI stops at version 3.0
Speaking of ls and SGI... Does anybody know of a ls that supports color (like under Linux) and compiles on a SGI box?
Thanks...
The Flood wouldn't bloody well explain the dissapearance of water-dwelling dinosaurs (of which there were many), would it?
Frankly, I don't think the media is giving this anywhere near enough importance...
This is, quite simply, a catastrophe, and not just for Kansas.

As someone who has used Maya on both IRIX and NT, I can only agree...
Photoshop does run on SGI, but it's a horrible, horrible port of version 3.0. (the Mac versions are up to 5.5 by now).
"You don't eat, sleep or mow the lawn, you just use X all day long"...
:)
Sorry, couldn't resist, please moderate it down.
