Why is it stupid? I work with both Macs and Unix boxen, and after one or two hours on the Mac I just can't wait to get to a command line so I can actually be a bit productive.
Sorry, but one-button mice and no multitasking has to *go*.
I'm beginning to use just two passwords, my main UNIX one at work, and another one everywhere else. I'm sorry, I just can't remember six dozen pseudo-random strings.
And don't get me started on PIN numbers... Bring on the biometrics, and fast...
There is definitely a lot of mileage variation there. I'm a lot more productive on my Indy (running fvwm2 rather than 4Dwm) than on my NT box with four times the horsepower.
The NT interface is great for its emetic properties, though.
It may be a headache for sysadmins, I don't know, but it's the best OS *ever* for an end user. I'm ten times more productive on my little Indy than on my shite NT box with four times the horsepower.
Exactly... I'm hitting the treadmill every morning now, but if it's goint to turn me into some kind of arrogant bastard, I think I might as well stop now and tuck in some pizza, which I'm missing badly.
On the other hand, it might be also argued that the LEGO Group Companies could, say, go fuck themselves.
Jesus, I simply *cannot* picture someone saying "LEGO Bricks or Toys" instead of "legos" in normal conversation. There is nothing I hate more than blood-sucking lawyers trying to regulate the way we speak.
If a Linux port of Maya ever happened, that would be sweet. Maya under IRIX is delicious, and since you are still forking out a bunch of money for the x86 version, it's a shame to mar the whole experience by having to run it on top of (blech) NT...

Except that the new SGI logo sucks, unfortunately...
The problem with Esperanto is that it's so *horribly* ugly. I guess it's ugly as only designed languages can be, and this particular one seems designed for ugliness (Tolkien made up some languages which are both euphonic and look good on the page. Esperanto is neither).
If the solution is that everybody learns the same second language, what's wrong with English? I did that, and it's working for me.
No. Violence is violence, and breeds violence. If the kid gets the idea that causing pain is an acceptable way to deal with a problem, he'll resort to that whenever given the chance.
Have you ever seen the phone booths in London? Fully half the hooker's cards over there are either about spanking or getting spanked. That stuff bends you for life.

You have to use them to understand the difference. High-end packages such as Maya or Softimage are *lightyears* away from the $100 crowd.
Really.
The Maya renderer sucks all ass. Strangely, it's a lot worse than the older Alias renderer.
The Animation and Modelling package is amazingly powerful, though.

Actually, the default screen res is 1280x1024...
It does look a lot nicer at that res than NT does at 1600, though.

There was no dust plume because of the specific place of impact, but that doesn't mean there is no water in there...
He's on the record saying "There should be limits to freedom", regarding, if I remember correctly, a web spoof of his own campaign site...
Sounds a bit like Brin's "Heart of the Comet"... Horrible book.
I heard somewhere that Newton died a virgin...
:)
The original nerd, methinks.
Well, one thing is true... Geekdom cannot be genetic, since we basically don't get to spread our genes. :)

That one as well. In fact, just about every damn thing he's ever written, although some books require a stronger stomach than others.
Give Ken McLeod a try also...
Whoa, that was one HUGE hard drive for 1991... Back then, I paid $500 for my 150 MB drive.
Heh, for me it's the opposite. I like most Brin books, but I thought "Earth" was a load of bat guano.

Funnily enough, the Microsoft BOB team went on to form Valve and create Half-Life...
Yes, I was surprised too...
That's funny. I have an SGI at work and another at home, and I ditched 4Dwm in both, using fvwm2 instead. It's a lot more customizable.
I just wish installing Enlightenment on IRIX wasn't such a pain in the ass.
It still smells of Microsoft.
Bah. I've been carrying gov. ID since I was fifteen. Except for Britain, most everybody does in Europe. It's no big deal, get used to it.
Besides, the drivers license is pretty much the same thing...
