Agreed. The agreement between the EU and Microsoft states that they just have to provide all the same API's publically that they use internally. There is nothing about legacy support.

I am surprised nobody I have seen mentions GoDaddy. They don't have a API that I know of, but they have a copy feature that allows you to copy setting(s) from one domain to all the domains. That is total BS, and you are going to have to back that up with some facts and links. I develop ASP.NET for a living and have never run into a problem with Fire Fox support. Sufari yes, Opera yes, Firefox no. Plus if you don't like the controls that Microsoft has developed you can always create your own. Nobody is forcing you to use the Microsoft controls. You can even take it down to the fact that if you don't want to use the Page object you can create your own handler from the IHttpHandler interface. Then you don't have to worry about any of the rendering from Microsoft controls.

You are totally wrong and you have been called out.

Comcast's headquarters are in Philly. Philly usually gets better speeds just because of the short physical distance between the main servers and the home. Plus if Comcast is looking at rolling out a new feature such as 20 Mbps they usually do this in Philly first. I used Comcast for many years in the Philly area, and when they upped the speeds to 6 Mbps back in 2004 I was one of the first to see it in the nation even though they were still only advertising around 2 Mbps.

  14. Re:More Speculation on Apple to Unveil New Leopard OS in August · · Score: 1

It certainly makes a lot more sense for them to just use a Windows installation. If they do that, Microsoft is likely to be okay with it since it means they'll sell more copies of Windows. If Apple reverse engineered the Windows API, Microsoft would probably make "improvements" to it out of spite, to cause things to break when run on the Mac's reverse-engineered API.

Why would Microsoft really care, much past the fact that the people are buying the operating system and buying software for the operating system. This is what normal PC users do. Okay so the Aqua interface is applied to the Microsoft OS that they bought and then they install the normal software that Apple really doesn't have an answer for like Microsoft Office which they also bought. So how is this different than if they were running this on a Dell? None. Money keeps pouring in.

That's probably also why Apple didn't reverse engineer MAPI so Mail.app could talk to Exchange, choosing instead to screen-scrape Outlook Web Access.

There have been open implimentations of MAPI for a long time. And it has changed so very little that it really makes no sense for them to purposly break it because huge companies and the US government rely on it. As well as 3rd party software vendors. The evolution software which is where Apple took this ability to work with Exchange. And the only reason evolution did this is because of the OSS communities refusal to use anything that isn't an open standard, such as MAPI, and plus they licensed it under GPL so that pretty much limited them to using scraper technology to get the data from OWA. This not only opens up huge holes in corporate security.

So I guess I really don't understand your argument because it is very Mac centric in your knowledge of the software you are using, which isn't a bad thing, but you shouldn't give you oppinion on things you don't even have a slight grasp of.

It still doesn't fit into the formula, and that is the point, Hollywood wants to find a formula and one doesn't exisit. People like what they like because it inspires them at a time when they need inspiring. Mystic River doesn't really fit in either and it earned a great deal of money, and the addition DVD sales it will get with the Emmy's it one also isn't in the forumla.
