  1. Re:Hardware too... on Indymedia Servers Given Back · · Score: 1

San Francisco Indymedia broke the Diebold source code story.

  2. Completely Inaccurate Article Title on Mac OS X Trojan Horse Infects MP3s · · Score: 1

This trojan horse doesn't "infect MP3s", it masquerades as an MP3. It doesn't infect anything. That's why it's called a trojan horse and not a virus. Come on guys. Try reading the article for once.

  4. If they don't like the GPL, lock them out of it on Samba Team Points Out SCO's Hypocrisy · · Score: 1

Could someone at the FSF write up a new version of the GPL that specificly bars SCO from using any source released under that license?

It could be called The GPL Doesn't Like You Either License.

  6. making excuses on Mac OS X Slow for Web Browsing? · · Score: 1

The Microsoft guy is just making excuses for why Explorer sucks. Try Chimera Navigator, it's twice as fast as Mac IE on average, plus it's more standards compliant.

  7. your patriotic duty on DVD Drives Defeat Cactus Data Shield · · Score: 1

The "More Music" CD release is a test of copy-protection's market viability. If the test fails, Universal may change its mind about copy protecting all their CDs in the future. I just returned my first "More Music" CD to the record store today for a full refund (since it wouldn't play on my Mac). I hope the rest of you slashdotters are doing the same. When it comes to dealing with record companies, you can be sure there's nothing they really care about besides their bottom line, so get out there and hit them where it hurts!

  10. Bin Laden trained by the CIA on A Tale of Two Media:Tragedy and Images · · Score: 0

Why is it that no mainstream news source has mentioned tha fact that Bin Laden was originally trained and funded by the CIA in it's effort to prevent the Soviet Union from taking over Afganistan. After Bin Laden successfully helped the CIA repell the Soviets, the US set up a puppet government in Saudi Arabia (through which they could attack Iraq) which then denied Bin Laden re-entry to the country. This was just the first of many US betrayals against Bin Laden than provoked his revenge mentality.

The chain of events in the middle east over the past 15 years doesn't speak very highly of US foreign policy. First we backed the Shaw (sp?) in Iran and sold them arms, then when they were overthrown, we backed Saddam Hussien and helped him take over Iraq. Then when he failed to do our bidding, we started influincing Saudi Arabia so that we could attack Iraq. Is it any surprise that so many people in the Middle East hate the US? And I haven't even mentioned all the atrocities we've purpetrated through our support of Isreal. If there weren't such fatal consequenses, I would call it laughable.

  11. Strange... on U.S. Attack -- More Updates · · Score: 0

I heard on the radio that all domestic flights have landed and are accounted for, but strangely I just saw a large jet flying west overhead (away from the nearest airport) here in Nashville. I guess they haven't all landed yet after all. Very weird. It's 2pm CST as I write this.

  13. It's all about software on Mandrake Linux 8.0 Final Released For PPC · · Score: 2, Insightful

It's all about software. You can't run Microsoft Word or Photoshop under Linux. That's the problem. OS X supports all of the existing MacOS software, plus great Unix software like Apache. It's the best of both worlds.

  16. The games are better on Review: Final Fantasy · · Score: 1

I have to agree. I can think of quite a few video games with deeper plots than this movie (Final Fantasy 7 comes to mind). The only thing interesting about this movie is the animation.

  17. Re:PA seems to be getting Slashdotted... on eFront From Inside · · Score: 1

First of all, this story isn't just on Slashdot. It's ALL OVER the web. Second of all, Penny Arcade is already permanently slashdotted by being a Slashdot Quick Link, so it has effectively been double slashdotted. I just talked with John Mora, the SysAdmin at Monster Labs (where PA is now hosted), and he says it seriously put the beat down on thier servers, but it's hanging at a comfortable 3 Mbits/sec right now so there shouldn't be any more crashes. All this talk about hosting sites like penny arcade as a hobby are pretty laughable. I don't know about you guys, but my cable modem's upstream cap is significantly less that 3 Mbits! More like 128K.

  19. Students need to speak out against sell-outs! on Intel tells Harvard, 'Cover that Mac!' · · Score: 1
It seems that the logical extension of this trend is for large corporations to eventually purchase or start their own universities. Think about it, universities want to be well funded, corporations want captive markets. Solution: Pepsi University. But hey, maybe that won't happen since it seems that universities are so eager as it is to bend over backwands for a meager hand-out.

If I went to a university that denied me the right to choose whatever products I wanted to use or consume, I would transfer to a different university and take my tuition money with me! The only way to make these universities listen is with your pocketbook. As students, you have the power to show them that you are not sheep and you will not permit such heinously unethical behavior! Form a student union and threaten a mass withdrawl. Or, if you don't have enough balls for that, start a petition and organize a student/faculty conference on the subject. If you don't speak up, no one else will.
