Well, since NBC is owned by GE (a huge defense contractor) and I believe CBS is owned by Westinghouse (uh, the next largest defense contractor) what do you expect? Thank god for
the web. But who can we trust here?
Why not just buy a nice STEREO FM transmitter from http://www.ramseykits.com/ ? 34.95, transmits up to 1/4 mile to any FM radio in the house. I got one and they rule. Seriously.
In school you have to learn how to spell and use correct grammar. No one will respect you for the rest of your life.
Bah, working class.:)
I'm getting a degree because I know too many people in their 40's and 50's who were laid off after 20-25 years at one job. Money is worth less and less each day. Gas prices double and that 50k you're making is nothing.
This kind of thing happens every day. Pick up a current issue of any magazine directed toward IT management and you will see that WalMart has one of the largest databases of customer buying habits. WalMart only stocks their shelves with things that sell. It's weird how they make you give them your driver's license number if you pay with a check, and if you use a credit card, well.... This is just taking it a little farther--PERSONALIZED marketing. I don't know if it is bad or good, but if it's bad, some one should stop WalMart. It's interesting, also, that they don't have to tell you they are tracking your buying habits, even though this could be a potential invasion of privacy. Sure you are just a number, but we are all just numbers, and how easy is it to turn a name into a number??
I think that someone should start 2 companies that each sell half of the DeCSS code for $1. Of course, the home user has to "assemble" them so it's totally legal. The profits go directly to EFF. Who's with me?
email me.
We're just tired of paying 16 bucks for a piece of plastic when less than half of it goes to the artist. A lot of the money we pay (or paid, I guess) for CDs goes to making you buy more CD's. The artist only gets a tiny portion of the check. So, the RIAA's members are getting rich and the artists (most of them) aren't. There are almost 300,000,000 people the the US and about 100,000 of them are rich rock stars. That's what,.003% of america. And only about 1000 people in the US are richer record execs. How much more money are we going to give them?!? Jesus, this is just getting old. Paying for music is dead. Bands will have to make money on live stuff. It's time for things to change. It's revolution time. Screw the past, it's the year 2000 for christ's sake. Let's do something NEW!
The fact that these boxes exist is not a problem. Think about this for a moment:
- This software probably finds and filters *email* in a number of ways. Firstly, it probably can be configured to search through emails for specific keywords and (more likely) to search for emails from a specific address.
So, all the general public needs to defeat this invasion of privacy is the list of keywords they are looking for. Then, we send the list in an email many many times past the box. It will simply throw up.
Could you imagine 1 email a day filled with "cocaine", "guns", and "world trade center" passing this federal snooping device? Sure, they would think you were a criminal and arrest you.
Could you imagine 2 emails a day filled with "explosives" and "federal building" and "marijuana" passing this snooping box? They would think you guys were terrorists and arrest you both.
But what about 2 MILLION emails a day, filled with "heroin", "preteen", "crack", and "jobs"????? They would shit their pants at the revelation! They would think it was a REVOLUTION!! And that's what it is!
All I ask is that each of you send one email a day with words from this yet to be published list. Hell, someone could even write a tiny mailer program that sits in the background and sends one randomized mail a day generated from this list. One mail a day times 100 million internet users--god damn, they wouldn't last a minute!
Or you can get a copy of PGP with like 128k keys which even the nsa can't break. Not that I know anythink.
Fully correct. I think that the music industry (as well as every other media industry) has been taking advantage of these "copyright" laws for too long. If I were an artist, I would support Napster. The record companies get to keep most of the money they make selling albums. The only people who lose in this Napster thing is the record companies. I hate them anyway.
Yeah, and if *I* got caught smoking a joint, I couldn't get a student loan EVER again.

Just remember. Humans are people too.
