  1. Re:WOW!!!!! on Microsoft Will Pay If Its Bugs Damage Your Data · · Score: 1

The point is that $5 is a laughable sum for all the trouble that people (including myself) have gone through due to Microsoft's gross incompetence or unethical business practices.

As a matter of fact, it's a damn insult. I don't want their $5. I wouldn't want their $50. And once it starts getting into amounts that are non-insulting, it become infeasible for Microsoft.

So, I think that most people don't want some piddly-ass check. We want Microsoft to fix their damn bugs!

  2. Re:Legality on Microsoft Will Pay If Its Bugs Damage Your Data · · Score: 4, Interesting

Which I think is fair. However, Microsoft is now admitting responsibility for the bugs and that they can cause damage sufficient to warrant monetary compensation.

This is opposed to their previous stance of claiming that their software has no fitness for any purpose or merchantability. This new policy goes against that previous claim. That's why I think the door may have creaked open for the right lawsuit to succeed in claiming, "No, we suffered a loss that should be compensated by one million dollars, not five." And when Microsoft tries to get it tossed out on the basis of their claims in the EULA, this policy will be shoved in their face.

    Just a thought.

    Five whole dollars???

Why would anyone migrate away from Microsoft products now?

P.S. On a serious note, doesn't this potentially open them up to being sued for damages? I know they're claiming otherwise in the EULA, but once the door is open...

One of the major points for doing the rewrites (FF & TB replacing the monolithic Moz suite) was to have them run in separate memory spaces. That way a FF crash wouldn't take down TB and vice-versa. So if someone did rewrite then to share a single Gecko instance, we'd be right back where we started in that respect. Moz Mail used to take down browsing sessions all the time, usually due to buggy plugins.

That being said, there has long been plans to merge FF & TB to a certain degree and make that the new Moz suite (albeit with the separate memory spaces). While that would probably reduce the memory footprint the two currently have when running side-by-side, don't look for it to reduce by a whole lot.

All officers need a college degree. All Marine officers have had numerous history, warfare, and national security classes by the time they graduate. Then they spend six months in a finishing school (TBS), where the curriculum includes things of that nature. And yes, the field-grade and above officers usually do have a graduate degree in that area.

So my question is this: Do you seriously think it matters that every PFC and Lance Corporal doesn't have a degree in foreign relations or political science? Are you assuming that they are incapable of understanding nuance when presented with it or folllowing orders that deal with nuance? What kind of knuckle-draggers do you perceive military members to be?
