  1. Oops on New YOPY Screenshots · · Score: 1

"THe images are in a tgz" Whoops, a Taco Typo! Nice screenshots though.

  2. Tele-Commercials on ABC Ads Target Answering Machines? · · Score: 1

How can anyone possibly see this as being a good idea? You come home on Friday afternoon and check your messages, and hear a commercial for TV shows, come on. At least you can just hang up on on tele-marketers, or hold an airhorn up to the phone. Perhaps ABC would like for everyone in these major cities to call in with ads for their personal businesses. The thought of people leaving ads on my answering machine is very disturbing!

  3. Build it Right on Miguel Says Unix Sucks! · · Score: 1

Perhaps he would have some useful insight on how to build it correctly. It's certainly even for anyone to say it was done wrong, but I dont see many people showing much progress in doing it right. Hey, it works, it's not M$, good enough for me!

  4. FYI on The Amazing Bend-o-Nanotubes · · Score: 2

This technology had been predicted to be used to make coiled structures (i.e. solenoids) on a nano scale allowing nano-mag fields. Unfortunately now that this has been proven wrong, they'll have to use it more as a damper. I think it would have been more useful the way it was predicted.

  5. Voodoo 2? on Beta BeOS R5 OpenGL Benchmarks Smoke Linux and Win · · Score: 1

I dont know about other people, but I personally am not interested in what has the best performance on the Voodoo2, seeing as 3dFx now has the Voodoo5, and most people serious about their video cards have at least a Voodoo3 or better. Plus I think a better challenge would be running Quake III. No matter what, the Voodoo5 is awesome

  6. Index on BT To Enforce Patent On Hyperlinking? · · Score: 1

Hyperlinks come the closest in my mind to the index in a book. They both direct you to different regions, the hyperlink to a webpage, the index to a page in the book. So maybe I should patent the index for books and magazines, and get paid royalties for everything published with an index. Obviously this is stupid, I see no plausible way for someone to recieve royalties for hyperlinks. I guess I owe them money for this right?

  7. What's more important? on Myst - In Realtime? · · Score: 1

Being a hardcore fan of both Myst and Riven at first this caught my eye as being exciting. Then I thought, isn't there something better they could be doing with their time. Perhaps comnig up with a new adventure? Yes its true that people often like re-releases with enhanced graphics i.e Star Wars, but let's face it, people would have rather seen a new Star Wars movie then all the old ones again. Especially a new one with Natalie Portman. Maybe they can put her in realtime in the new Myst, then they've got something! Until then, let it go, make the third in the series instead.

  8. Giant Bill Gates... on Lego Institutes Bulk Ordering · · Score: 1

I would construct a giant Bill Gates. Then I would push him over, and send him crashing into M$, perhaps his arm could fall onto Billy boy's house. I'd probably also want each lego to have "Linux" written on it, just for spite.

  9. Mission Impossible 3 - Stopping Piracy on Revenge Of The MP3 Quickies! · · Score: 1

Whereas the only thing impossible about the plot of MI-2 was staying consious throughout the whole movie, the RIAA really has a Mission Impossible if they think they can stop piracy of music. I suppose their next step will be to go to every college campus and shut down all computers that are illegaly sharing mp3's. Maybe it's just me but I think they would have more luck with the Haiku Generating Program.

  10. AI Syllables? on Can You Create An Intelligent Haiku Generator? · · Score: 1

I have a question for the more experienced programmers out there. Since the ancient form of Haiku are based on the syllabic structure of 5-7-5, which by reading the posts most people are familliar with. My question is that how would a computer program be taught to recognize syllables, especially in cases such as "thought" and "into". The longer word contains only one syllable, while the considerably shorter word contains two. I would imagine this would cause considerable trouble with writing such a program for haiku generation. Please someone correct me if the is a simple way to avoid this part of the programming challenge.

  11. Pictures on RHIC Operational · · Score: 1

The pictures are very interesting to those interested in quark plasma imaging, but otherwise most likely just look like a screen saver, oh well. Nice to see some good results though.

  12. DVD Easter Eggs on Easter Eggs in Open Source? · · Score: 4

While Easter Eggs may not be as prevalent recently, I have been happy to find many Easter Eggs placed on DVD's. My personal favorite is the Evil Menu on the Austin Powers 2 DVD. Easter Egg hunters should checkout "http://www.dvdeastereggs.com/easter_eggs.html" for some cool easter eggs.

  13. Purely Example on Napster Wars · · Score: 1

I agree that Gnutella is superior, I just wanted to illustrate the growth in the amount of such servers. Especially with the release of the source codes allowing these servers to be put up unchecked.

  14. Napster...iMesh..and so on on Napster Wars · · Score: 1

Even if there was a shutdown of Napster the trade of music over the internet will no doubt continue. Many people should be familiar with iMesh, a new system similar to Napster which allows for the transfer of Images, Music, and Video files. Perhaps this will be the next target, but won't another such site just arise shortly after?
