I was reading up a while ago about lots of audio stuff....
a few facts came to light.
- In most modern studios, when mixing, the sound engineer is NOT using $20,000 electrostatic speakers with insane frequency response and a perfectly flat response curve. Nor is he using 20,000 electorstatic headphones with the same. Yes, he's using good equipment, but it's not scientifically perfect equipment.
- This same sound engineer is going to master things so it sounds good on his equipment.
- Therefore, it's somewhat silly to buy *perfect* equipment to reproduce sound, when the only way to reproduce what the sound engineer had in mind is to use his room/equipment.
- The exception to this is THX movie systems. THX is a specification that can be reproduced pretty much anywhere, so you can get reliably close to what the sound engineers intended it to sound like. This does not happen in any other recording type.
- Most of the dynamic range available on modern CD recordings, espeically pop music, is no longer taken advantage of. Instead, music is recorded all as loud as possible, in theory, to get a slightly louder recording during radio play, to make your trakcs more noticed. You can see this; take a cd from the olden days of CD (80's) and take something now. The cd from wayback, you will need to turn the volume up, and those bass beats will sound so much more real.
The Alberta Premier granted free bus tickets to tons of welfare applicants several years ago to have them go to B.C. and claim welfare there (dumping them on the B.C. Economy)
having a.com.au implies you are an australian company, to the erst of the world. Isn't it somewhat misleading if you aren't? Is it wrong to insist that they check to see, in fact, that you ARE a company? This is one problem with.com... they never verified anything.
Having a.net.au implies you are a network provider by definition. Why should you have a.net.au if you aren't?
Nobody argues.gov is only for government, or.edu for educational...
And as others pointed out,.au has.id.au for individuals.
You aussies should be *happy* your domain name system hasn't been cast to the wolves. It's one of the few run the way it should be.
Limiting.com.au to registered companies,.org.au to registered organisations, etc.. is a great idea, but something should be left over for other people.
I think this is 100% up to the end user. If I want my browser to automatically do this, that's MY choice. MS can make it a feature, it should be off by default. That's all there is to it.
I can view your web page however you like, and if I want my browser to automatically filter, link, and do other things.. that's my business.
VOIP, or Voice Over IP, has come to mean a specific suite of protocols for providing telco integration, call setup/teardown, etc. We shouldn't use it as a generic term for 'speech over internet' anymore..
How is this much different from the web? How do you find something? Someone *tells* you where it is (in the form of a link). In freenet's place, it would be a key.
So is group hysteria, and Carpal Tunnel is probably the *least* common RSI.
If we had everyone actually coming down with carpal tunnel syndrome, then we'd have a lot of *extremely* unhappy people. The surger is harsh, I believe they do both wrists at once, and you lose the use of your hands during recovery, so you can't even wipe your own ass.
Ergonomics are as important as ever; I've had debilitating wrist pains from typing before. Granted, I never blamed them on my employer, or carpal tunnel syndrome. I blame myself, for a) not exercising enough and b) not bothering to watch my posture.
what happens on student's personal machines any of the University's business?
Also, how is it a risk? What kind of viruses are you afraid of here, exactly?
you may underestimate the amount of bandwidth available.
I live in Gibraltar, have links directly to the UK, (so I'm only a couple hops away from the eastern seaboard). I get good high speeds from most sites in the US, and have no problems with any online gaming.
does streaming have to do with encoding or decoding?
THey hold patents on the encoder and the decoder, no? So if the data is already encoded..... how can they enforce this?
Just like.... Unisys charging people for using GIF's.. they can only control making them and displaying them, not using them...
is in diving magazines. Apparently they are really good for diving (good under high pressure, very low chance of burnout, basically impossible).
You can whack them around and not get burned out.... which is rather important when you're a hundred feet under water in the dark.

That's stupid then. I stand corrected. I bow my head in shame.
Is that covad employees blamed their problems on Verizon(as their wire provider, not as their dsl provider; covad is the dsl provider).
Verizon says this was fraudulent, or whatever you want to call it, as they had over 22,000 complaints that were not their problem.
They do.
.id.au
Anyone can have one.
I dunno, but to relate a Canadian story..

How's that for not dealing with you problems?
Scientology is not as much of a problem for us Canucks (and this is not meant as a cheap shot) is a less litigous society (and legal system).

Guys, I wasn't trying to be anal, only educate people, because I know a lot of poeple are not aware there is an actual protocol called VoIP.
The comparison to ftp is entirely accurate.
I never said anyone was wrong, only that we should avoid confusion.
It's easy to walk around the web because of HTML. NOT because of http/web servers/etc.
That's the point. Freenet is a storage/server medium, not the user interface element.

How about how the great depression came about because the government gave away everyone's gold?
Then made it illegal to own gold bullion? (not repealed until 1974)
I laugh when I get a resume for someone who's a 'programmer' who doesn't know any C.

I have yet to find another 'editor' that does what Emacs will do.... have you really used the IDE type features of emacs before?
You should not be limiting yourself on learning a language based on the IDE available. Learn C. Use an IDE if you wish.
'their' vessles, not 'there' vessles.
'ransom' not 'ransome'
There is no similarity. These people are enforcing legal patents they were granted, not simply blocking a trade 'because they can'.
By your logic, the person collecting tickets at the entrance to a concert is a pirate who is preventing you from seeing the concert?
Unless you can show otherwise?
