There have been quite a lot of mainstream articles telling what Napster is and how it works, some of them even mentioned Gnutella and Freenet.
Legal situation?
It's legal to download, but serving requires a permit. The legality of linking to mp3's abroad has not been solved in court, but the local RIAA, Teosto, is bullying people and ISPs to remove links.
Rendering will always be a time consuming process. It won't get faster. Rendering a fixed format, fixed resolution, fixed framerate video will get faster of course... but as CPUs get faster, more CPU intensive algorithms will appear, to get better resolution, higher quality, more effects, etc. So upping CPU speed will gain you nothing, in the end.
Wrong. Upping the CPU power will gain you better resolution, higher quality, more effects etc. You just said it.
For example compare the two latest Titanic movies (Raise the Titanic produced at about 92 and the Leonardo DiCaprio one produced couple of years ago. Look at the special effects. Compare the ships. If increased CPU speed gains nothing, why doesn't the older movie have special effects like the newer one?
My take is that the 6 in K6-x is the generation number. It's 6th generation chip, just as Pentium2 and Pentium!!! (that sure is an ugly way of spelling it). 2 or 3 is the iteration number. It really makes (some) sense that way. K6-2+ : Improved version of second iteration of our 6th generation chip. Also remember that at the moment K6-2 came out Intel had at least Pentium Pro, Pentium MMX and Pentium 2 (not counting Celerons and Xeons).
Why not just have an A4 sized posters on the shelf and when you wanted a particular title you could get it in a paper bag with manuals, CDs and the other fluff.
That would really help browsing the titles, as well as being very ecological.
I had some problems with a Kingmax 128MB PC133 stick that would not run 133MHz. A BIOS update fixed that. It's a great board. Everything I need and then something more. But not the things I know I won't need (on-board audio, AMR-slot).
BTW. All the KX133 based motherboards support PC133 memory. Go check www.via.co.tw.
Anyone have 1st-hand experience with the situation in europe (GSM phones)? Are they really better, or is it more hype?
I don't know about the whole Europe but the situation in Finland: #1. Buy a phone. Any phone. #2. Get a subscription. Any subscription. #3. Ask the staff to insert the SIM-card into the phone. #4. Wait 20 minutes for the activation.
I.e. The phone and subscription are separated. It is illegal for the provider to subsidise the phone. Selling phones tied to only one operator is also illegal. Freedom Rules:) Also take into account that whole Europe uses same standard => You can use your phone in whole Europe + World (-Japan & America).
BTW, does anyone know if Athlons are being made with.18 micron processes (last I heard they were still at.25) and/or copper interconnects yet, and if not what the current planned dates are? </i>
The answers are yes and probably. Probably, because I am not 100% sure. Try checking out overclockers.com
Does anybody still remember Fredrik Pohl's excellent The Merchant War (or something like that... I've only read the translation and that was a long time ago) with the whole society based on advertisements.
What would the/. crowd be saying if it was a different company, say, Microsoft, Etoys or Amazon threatening anyone who uses the names "amazon", "etoy", or "microsoft" or any variation of them in their names?
We would not like that.
But this is a different case. What would we do if it was Microsoft or Amazon threateaning squatters that try to _auction_ domain names that included their trademark? Probably nothing. I bet microsoft wouldn't like microsoftporn.com.

Why not have a GPL'd censorware that has an open, user-modifiable block-list? (Why am I asking all these questions?)
Could a simple firewall blocking all documents that had one of the seven dirty words(tm) in them, classify as censorware?
I believe a free, easy to uninstall alternative censorware would really be adopted by all the independent retailers.
I still hope this doesn't get thru.

.se appears to be already taken by the Swedes. .sw ? ;)
Can we now accuse them of TLD scamming? After all they should have
Or better yet, sci.fi

So nerddom is all about opensource and linux? I don't think so.
... if I can buy a fully working miniature version from the gift shop.
:)
And where's the source, I mean blueprints

AMD 386/40... nyah nyah.

See this very pro-DeCSS article at CNN.com. Interesting how they have no mention of this...
:)
Well, the CNN story was published almost a week ago... They are pretty good but I don't think they can predict the future
We would not like that.

I remember seeing 'virii' somewhere
They could put 2 buttons -- one for meta and one for control. /grin/
No, the control-button would be called Trans.
