  1. Not that I buy into the conspirary theories on NASA's More Obscure Lunar Research · · Score: 1

  2. Cute little OS? on Linux Powers Military UGV · · Score: 1

  4. Celine Dion on Canadian Record Label Fights RIAA Lawsuits · · Score: 1

Why do we Quebecers tend to hate their own that make it?

Celine can actually sing, live, without recording engineering making he sound good. It's really easy to find people in the industry (who actually know what thney are talking about) praise her. If you don't like what she sings, then fine for you. But that doesn't mean that she's not extremely talented (and worked hard to get there too).

On the other hand, if a researcher changes the contrast of the whole image to make it easier to see the patterns they are drawing their conclusions from, then they can always claim they really didn't notice the other stuff. Essentially, researchers have to avoid doing things that prove that they were deliberately dishonest.

Don't discount the possibility that there was nothing else interesting to see either. Scientists are not all dishonest!

Bah. I'll take a well made stereo recording over a mediocre multichannel recording any day.

Multichannel formats such as SACD and DVD-A haven't taken off anyway.

  12. Audio CDs are analog, are they? on Digital Music Sales Skyrocket in 2005 · · Score: 1

CD's don't count as digital because they're technically analog. They store ones and zeros, but the machine that reads them is analog.

  13. CD drives in years to come on 35mm - One Step Closer to the End · · Score: 1

Hard to find a turntable to play old 45, 78, and 33 records. Getting harder to find cassette players. Many new PCs don't come with floppy drives. In 30 years, will you still be able to find a CD-ROM/DVD drive or will there be some other format? Don't throw away your old PC.

I'm pretty sure you'll have time to copy the data to some other medium (with a ratio of 100 CDs to one unit of whatever they make in ten years). Unlike copying an LP, you'll be making an exact copy.
