I know there are those out there who probably swear nothing bad happened back in Y2K because they worked so hard to fix all the bugs. If you ask me there never really was a problem, just media overhyping everything to boost sales on new PC's/etc.
You think maybe now the economy is down they're trying to find another scare to get big companies to spend big dollars blindly?

The sad thing about the Internet, is not necessarily that when a site shuts down it stops putting up new content, but in many cases the archived information on the site disappears.
Yes I know about the Internet archiving effort (www.archive.org), but in many cases the sites going under had streaming video or audio, which is lost forever.
While I don't know what's so special about Swiss bank accounts (I'm just a poor college kid, not a money launderer), I do know they're famous for keeping money safe from your government/police/etc.
Just as we store money in foreign contries to keep it safe from our local policies, the Italians in question stored their (publicly available) information in our country to keep it safe from theirs.
Microsoft doesn't change code constantly to defer competators from being compatible, ever think maybe they are one of the few who are truely innovating?
Also.NET is, as other people have said, a standardized platform. While it is true Microsoft has only been pushing for development in its languages for its platforms (ASP,VB,C# mostly), it can be easilly extended to Perl, Python, PHP, Java...
Yes, Microsoft does have problems playing well with others, but if they're the only ones pushing new technologies through, they're going to be in the lead. Until open source stops trying to "keep up" and starts coming up with ideas that will *LEAD* the industry... it'll be 2nd best.
I have shopped online at mwave.com for years. They are friendly when you need to talk to someone, carry almost everything you'd ever need. The also have some nice features like selling motherboard-ram-cpu combo packages, that way if you're not familiar with what boards are compatible with what families of processors, you dont worry about it.

I do Java dev too, and came across JCreator recently. it does almost everything even MS VB does (menu popups for function calls on objects), reads JavaDocs for internal help, compiles, debugs, color syntax, etc etc... worth a try. Free and costly versions available
I heard on the radio and read from a book of several loopholes you can use to get out of any legal problems involved with these speeding ticket cameras, and I'd hope it would go for the face recognition too:
first, you have the right to have your accuser present at your trial. So, demand that your accuser be present. It's a CAMERA. they sometimes try to bring in "professionals" or something, but it never works. The reason for having your accuser there is so you have the ability to cross examine/question him/her.
BTW, I live just an hour north of denver, I just hate when BB hits close to home:)
I'm now a junior as a comp sci major, and my school uses Java as an intro langauge for CS majors. Math and engineering/physics students still need C++ and don't care about Java, but the first 2 years of the CS program are almost solely Java.
Having aced the course and tutored people on both Java and C++, I think Java is a little easier for them to understand as beginners. Later on, once students are used to programming concepts, they are introduced to perl, c++, sql, and others...
MP3 Players have been designed and announced for the Visor for a year. One was announced to be on shelves August 00, others earlier, others later. This article is highly biased, it mentions 3+ times "the challenges in designing this was in the form factor, the complexities of the Palm platform, and the odd voltage the visor supplies"
so, the competators had to face this too? Do I care what history this creator has had? No. Do I care that this product has been announced? No. I've seen way too much vaporware in this field to care.
for info on other modules and stuff for the visor, go to http://www.visorcentral.com

There are several problems with your arguments...
