  1. Re:D40 on 10 Reasons To Buy a DSLR · · Score: 1

It depends on what you are comparing it to. If you are comparing DSLR to SLR, then you seem to ignore the liability presented by film usage. Heck, you seem to ignore that changing film rolls is a liability, nevermind the costs. In comparison, batteries are a pittance in terms of space, cost and change time. I have to think that over the life of the camera, the "expense" of the digital camera probably makes up for itself several times over by not needing film.

  2. Re:A fairly pointless article on 10 Reasons To Buy a DSLR · · Score: 1

I wonder if the article is some sort of a troll in that respect because most digicam's I've seen and used are constructed with a lot of metal and feel pretty solid. I've heard about some DSLRs that have a plastic enclosure, does that mean it's bad? I don't think so because plastic in itself isn't bad, there are different types of plastic. Plastic doesn't always mean cheap. Some plastics are more expensive than aluminum by weight or volume. Sometimes you don't want metal, plastics can often take shocks better and more often than metal. To make a good argument, it's best to not appeal to some sort of ignorant bias with repsect to materials.

My 3MP point and shoot and my dad's 8MP point and shoot can record video, so I doubt it's a processing issue. They do apparently have some means of scaling down and only record at VGA resolution though. For some reason, mine takes absolutely stunning video given that it's really only a still camera.

I'm not sure why you are suggesting a DV camcorder with AV in. I really haven't had a need for that, which is fine, because my HDV camcorders don't have AV in.

    That's cherry picking.

In the scriptures, there is a difference between a government meting out justice based on deliberation and an individual doing the same thing, because generally the individual is generally out for vengeance. It is because of the same practice of cherry-picking that the law was interpreted to allow for individuals exacting vengeance in the first place. Careful reading of the original text containing the "eye for an eye" wording would show this, I think pretty clearly.

Jesus wasn't talking about Rome, Herod or the local authorities. He wasn't talking to them either. Not that the governments at the time were nice, but there are scriptures that justice must be done, but that should only be done by people that have the proper authority to do so and the wisdom to know what is best.

And yes, those scriptures do allow for death as a penalty for murder. The old law isn't automatically abolished just because of Jesus, he made his life of interpreting and reaffirming a lot the Torah to show how individuals should live.

I really don't think iTunes is really a threat to the DVD buying model. The DVD format is a threat in itself and to itself. I think DVD has been fading since Spring of 2005 when Shrek DVD sales slumped quicker than anyone expected. And that was the best selling DVD ever. It may have meant that analysts and the industry was overeager, thinking DVD would continue to grow, but there's a point where there is market saturation and so many other options. I still buy DVDs but with PVRs and Netflix, there's almost no reason to even buy the heavily discounted stuff that's now $6 from $20 when they were first released. I think the reason I just stated should be considered as a reason why the buy-the-movie services may not work so well.

If you do this, you get an unsupportable mess of different notebook models, the steps to repairing each one is different, with different replacement parts needed to fix different models.

The point that is often missed is that the education could have significantly reduced the social ills you described. In fact, in my area, there is apparently a statistic that a kid that can't read by the seventh grade will end up in prison as an adult.
