In the US, I get that show on Discovery's Science Channel, which is offered on digital c-band and probably any digital cable or satellite. Ths show is pretty cool, but I don't think one company should have an exclusive on an idea like this.
I don't think BTX was ever meant for rack mount either, but rather consumer computers. There are other standardized form factors for that. Where BTX (or ATX) saves is using commodity parts, so you can make a cheap server.
I'm not that convinced that BTX is really necessary other than to increase royalties to Intel. The full size ATX standard and cases could have been to provide most or all of the benefits of BTX. The mini and micro ATX standards failed, so I don't see what could be done with BTX that gets at the root of why mini and micro ATX standard failed.
P2P is only increasing the popularity of their wares.
But the issue is that popularity doesn't necessarily mean an increase in sales, although sometimes it does.
I know people that can clearly afford to pay money for entertainment but do not, simply because they can download it even when it is clear it is against the wishes of the creators. One person simply claims that they are "borrowing", but does nothing to help compensate the creator even when they like it and keep it practically forever.

Correction, addendum. I don't hate China, nor do I hate Chinese people, but I think the Chinese government is pretty stupid in many respects, the great firewall, the crackdown against the expression of any opinion that counters the country's single political party and so on are other stupid things they do. This is much like I think the US government is pretty stupid, but in many somewhat different respects.
My comment it isn't about puting anti-virals in water for human consumption, they recommended puting anti-virals in water set for bird consumption. Puting antibiotics into bird food and water supply is another unfortunate practice in many parts of the world that many people are trying to put a stop to.
Tamiflu is owned by a Swiss company. I don't understand why the Bush administration would want to promote the products of a company that competes with US drug businesses.
I don't think Tamiflu was the only drug to be of use, but it is the best one. There was cheaper one but stupid Chinese government recommended using it in birds food and water supply, which is the best recipe for creating immunity.
There are some applications where a 64-bit CPU can perform FOUR TIMES more work in 64-bit mode than 32-bit mode. One of these is big integer multiplication.
The applications you state are only for huge numbers. That isn't what I would call a standard use for a laptop.
From a practical standpoint, the number of deaf and blind people (people of both conditions) is very small, the traffic from spam is probably far greater than that of legitimate users blocked. I can expect that most systems to allow using vision or sound for CAPCHAS.
I'd hate to simply block people off, but I understand why people that use it.
I would expect thtat the anti-discriminatory laws probably won't do jack for individual site administrators.

That's a good point. As long as the song is either original or in the public domain and they didn't sign away their rights with a label, any performer can give away their own music.
Technically, they did not sue them, but these letters have a similar effect to most people without a lawyer on retainer.
I think this is true. From what I uncerstand, cease and desist (C&D) letters are easy and legal for lawyers to write, but they don't have the force of law. In many cases, it's basically a threat to sue if conditions aren't met.
The unfortunate thing is that lawyers cost a lot of money and a person that hasn't made a broad social network to know what to do. Even if they do, finding one that will work at an affordable rate or pro-bono is tough, so the easiest thing is to comply with the C&D letter even if a person is completely within their rights. The pearLyrics author probably wasn't getting much money from his project, so anything that involves money is out.
Any possible chemical reaction isn't going to make "Depleted Uranium" (sic) perform any differently. My understanding is that depleted uranium is used for it's density and strength, you can fit more weight and energy into a physically smaller and stronger round.

So, it's kind of sad that these students went to this amount of trouble to explain away the lights.
You mean you think it's kind of sad that rational people find a reasonable natural explaination that doesn't rely on supernatural or paranormal? I think it's kind of sad that people rely on supernatural explainations to explain anything they understand when it rarely (or never) supernatural.
Obviously these little details have been added to add the little bit of doubt to keep the charade going and to draw some more money into town.
Given that there are people that doubt the NASA moon landings, I wouldn't be surprised that people brush aside these explainations.
I used to promote the idea of using the HD optical discs as backups, but frankly, they haven't kept up with hard drive capacities, I had a 600GB hard drive when the first writable CDs came out, a 9GB drive when the earliest writable 4GB DVDs came out, and now I have 400GB drives and even 100GB media is simply inadequate. I just sucked it up and bought external hard drives for backup purposes instead. Using CDs and DVDs no longer makes much sense for backups, they are too slow and save for a changer, require excessive manual intervention.
I am NOT counting on any form holographic, magneto-optical or whatever form large optical disc to do jack. They've been promised for decades now by many companies, but they get nowhere, and I don't think it's because of greed but because they were just vapor or too expensive save for certain niche commercial or industry uses. C3D's FMD idea was the last one I was aware of, and even had Dell, HP and the like officially interested but it died.
Maybe 90% of televisions will still be SD simply because of the installed base and that they last so long, but currently about 10% of current US households already have at least one high definition capable TV set. HD sets are getting a lot cheaper every year as well, I would not be surprised to see a 720p LCD available early next year for $500, it would probably be around 27" or so.
Males tend to be better at spatial memory, while females tend to be better at verbal and communication skills... the 2D interface has been male-centric up till now. Maybe the next step is to take a shot at a female-centric interface.
I don't know, I'd say that you need both spacial and word association skills. File->save is spacial and verbal. Maybe it's not English but there are languages that have different word orders. If a recent Science Friday episode is any indicator, there's no biological reason why females can't learn the "male" skills and vice-versa, it's more of a confidence and social issue than anything else, because that determines how persistent a person is in advancing themselves, men that restrict themselves in communication will flounder, women that restrict themselves in practicing spacial tasks will flounder as well.
I'm not sure what it would take to make computers more in tune with communication skills, it's not as if computers are anywhere near adept at natural language yet. There are a lot of people working on that, it's not easy work though, and doesn't seem like there are any people in the open source movement that are making that happen.
I think maybe the best way is to make things fit current physical metephors better, and making computers that are easier to maintain and configure. I think OS X is currently the best desktop operating system for that task, it's pretty simple to use, yet pretty flexible for the power users as well. There are still many areas that need improvement, but it's still a good step in the right direction. OS X also uses 3D capabilities to help computers make more sense.
As much as I don't like what GWB has been doing (I think PATRIOT is a G-D piece of paper that should be burned), the article seems more than a bit suspect.
Isn't the price of the CD drive still a lot less than ripping an entire collection? You do have a point with the laptop drive thing, those are a little more expensive, though I've bought replacement laptop DVD drive for my model for $30 on eBay to replace a suspected bad drive. I really haven't ruined any drive by ripping a CD.

For that price and those crappy ram/hd/lcd specs, I'll stick with my current desktop.
And you'll probably be sticking in one place too.
I agree. For $380, one can buy a much-improved graphics card and two PCI HDTV tuners.
