You're an optimist, but optimism won't work here. The only thing that will work will be a mass revolt against the current ICANN tyranny, because it's past the point of change right now. Once they start losing market share, then they'll start to give in.
The thing is that the board won't accept anything right now that they wouldn't have accepted before. In a sense, his position is only a first step - not paving the way, but an expression of growing discontent.
Good point. Tom Paine was a deist (along with me) and he was insulted (and called athiest, which is different) by Ronald Reagen for it. What a way to treat our founding fathers.
(Note: This probably won't go anywhere, because there's already a flood of +5's, but I'm submitting it in the hope that I'll be pleasantly suprised.)
I'm very concerned with the future of the country, and about what our national mission seems to be. Looking back through American history, every period seems to have a defining popular mission - like the "manifest destiny" movement in the 19th century, the Depression, World War II, and the Cold War. During these times, there would be one struggle or idea that captivates the attention of the nation, sort of providing a national mission.
I'm a little confused as I look around today. What is our mission? To me, it seems to be "to watch TV and use the Internet." What would you say the defining national mission of today is? What should it be? Furthermore, how would you show this in your activities as a lawmaker? (For instance, if our national mission is the pursuit of science, then would you increase funding for scientific pursuits in the budget?)
2.5 Clarification Regarding Intent. Nothing in this Section shall preclude Corel from releasing versions of Products that do not include any support for the.NET Framework and/or the Windows Platform.
Actually, the GCHQ is really the precursor to the NSA, and as such we don't give credit to such organiziations. We don't care how far ahead of the public world the NSA is, because we don't like them.
I already have a copy and found it to be an interesting look into the history of crypto... I already knew most of the math, but just the history parts were quite useful.
Get a real book on crypto (Koblitz, maybe) if you're interested in learning the math for real. If you just want a good history of the field and what it evolved from, then this is the book to get. Anybody who is interested in cryto should consider this a must-read simply for the historical perspective.
BTW, I know what the encrypted message really is at the end of the book. It's just xyzzy over and over and over......
Hrmn... I abstained from RH6.0 (moved direct to 6.1), but I've been using 7.0 and 6.9.5 for quite a while and they both seem quite nice. I don't think you'll have much of a problem with it - much less buggy than 6.0 was:(
Do I really need to be entertained? Geez, even using that word conjures up Huxleyan images. Why is it that most big companies (including, apparently, VA Linux) think that I need entertainment like I need to breathe? That's what bothers me about the web - they all want to feed me some eye candy and never feed my brain.
Forgive me if I act a bit skeptical. Get to write off stock options? Maybe so, but does that account for all of Cisco and Microsoft's taxes? It would seem that if their employees are excersizing that many stock options, their stock would be worth more than the company. That doesn't sound right.
Why would I show off my geekiness with a crippleware calculator that can't even type a lowercase character? The TI-83 is deliberatly crippled to be aimed at high school... which makes me shudder to think they're using them in college classes here. Anyway, the TI-86 is better for most stuff.
The C++ compatibility issues are far less important - as C++ has never been compatible anyway.
Right on. I'm still using Pinstripe beta (so shoot me), but the most I've noticed is that Blackbox wouldn't compile until I fixed some bad code of theirs. Other than that, 2.9.6 works absolutely great!
I'm hereby organizing the protest against the fact that Ralph Nader isn't included in your election. It's sick how educated people can limit the field to their "chosen" candidates and ignore viable third-party candidates like Nader.
Tell me, what will your candidates do for the environment? And will they act for social responsibility? I don't care if they understand DNS. Nader for ICANN!!!!
Consider this: SGI has had their 3D file system navigator for years. There's a little-known clone for Linux. Other than those two, where are the 3D ways to interact with your system? Why haven't MacOS X and Windows Whistler got 3D file system navigators, when the idea has been known for years?
Simple answer: Both Microsoft and Apple have user interface research groups, both of which have at one time considered a 3D interface. Both have rejected them. They're too hard to do serious work in for the average person, and they use up too much CPU time. It'd be only for show. Note that SGI's 3D File System Navigator bombed. Nobody liked it.
That said, why the heck would I want to navigate a web site in 3D? Doesn't it face exactly the same problems? Isn't that kind of.... stoopid?
And besides, for displaying images of products, wouldn't a voxel technology have more success?
Ick - my Logical-Fallacy-O-Meter just went off the wall. Can you say "Excluded Middle"?

That's right, we're all being called athiests by fools like Reagan. (He made some very negative comment about Thomas Paine, author of Common Sense)
Just so you know....

Naah, they just ran out of file descriptors and had to remove the story from the front page list :-P
That's called trolling on slashdot, and it's not allowed.

So that's why Epson just came out with a 2880x720 dpi printer....
Hmm... obviously missed that episode. If you decorate your Sim's house with Tragic Clown garb, the Tragic Clown will come to torment your sims.
Playing the Sims Livin' Large?

Thanks for the kinder reply. You'd think that for a Math major, I'd understand this type of stuff better. Well, not really.

Why don't you try QING (QING Is Not Geiss) - it's a visualisation plugin for SoundPlay, the kickass backwards-playing sound player for BeOS?
My name is 11223.
And what is your quest?
I seek the holy grail of flat-panel technology!
And what is the ModeLine of an ATI Rage Fury Pro with DVI connector neccessary to hook up to an Apple Cinema Display?
Uhh.. uhh... I don't know... Aieeee!

Yes. Not really. If I can get help from somebody competent, then I'd do it.
Tell me, what will your candidates do for the environment? And will they act for social responsibility? I don't care if they understand DNS. Nader for ICANN!!!!

None of which can read/write BFS at this point, despite the fact that it's well documented in Practical File System Design with the Be File System by Dominic Giampaolo.
Grumble grumble complain complain...
