So let me see here. Product "ABC" has smallish market share and can't seem to get out of the shadow of competing Product "XYZ" which has a dominant majority of market share. Now, If I happen to go to a special location and see that people there prefer ABC, that equates to "it seems clear that regular people like [ABC] products very much."

That's some real spin there. Obviously people like Macs because they have captured a decent share of the desktop computer market, but it is not correct to find niche groups of people that use them in greater numbers to say that people like them more.

My original thought was that if the GP did switch all his credit cards to credit union cards from major commercial banks, he wouldn't exactly be avoiding the financial system that is in place. The only way to really avoid it would be to get paid in cash (or cash equivalents), keep it stuffed under a rock or where ever, and use that for all your purchases. Not really my idea of modern life, but I suppose someone could do it.

Bank fees are really only onerous and excessive when you don't have a lot of actual assets held with a bank. I've found that when keeping a good enough balance in a top tier commercial bank, they don't charge me fees to access and move my money as long as I'm not using specialty services like wire transfers. The hidden fees I pay them are in the form of lower interest rates than I could get elsewhere, so that would be how they afford the services I get from them.

That being said, how many times could HTC or Samsung or any other company get away with over shipping devices that don't sell before retailers stop ordering as many devices? I seriously doubt HTC is shipping vast quantities of phones in these numbers that didn't sell. This isn't a failing product like the TouchPad prior to the fire-sale, or the Playbook. These are just commodity smart phones.

Whether you love or hate Apple, the important point to debate is not exactly who is king of the hill in smart phones, but the fact that it is not just one player that rules it all any more.
