I used sony z3 compact and really like the features. water proof, button placement, gimmicky camera features, solid body and regular updates until it lasted. it supposedly even had dock stand which I never saw though. wish they focused on long battery life, water proof, compact phones with flagship specs. they are capable of building an ecosystem with their products like apple or samsung is trying to do with their products.
I gave gnome3 time to prove itself until last month. I never did like gnome 3.. stupid ass interface and even with tweaks its still lacking in functionality.. I finally jumped ship to cinnamon desktop on fedora.. agreed it uses some components from gnome 3 but its way better... cant believe gnome 3 never got better with any of the releases.. Iam still confused with the audience.. do they intend it for touch screen or keyboard.. the entire desktop space is just wasted.. no way to do anything besides a wall paper..
I guess the biggest problem with linux desktop is that choices are too many and change quickly. I started using fedora from college days and still do but I realized that my enthusiasm to troubleshoot a problem and learn new things is slowly dying out.
Recently, I wanted to convert a png to jpg image. there was no default app to do it. come on, how hard is it. I had to install gimp to do it. I spent a good 10 mins trying to convert it with a default app. I could use the command line but didnt want so installed gimp. These are small things but make helluva difference.
I dont think there is an exact replacement for google reader.. maybe the features can be emulated but not the ease.. google reader can be accessed from my office network but not feedly which is blocked.... I just needed to sign in with my google account to check mail, rss etc.. I wish google didnt decide this.. I have been using it since 2006..
can you please provide more details on the "self hosted solution"?
