Referencing the Daily Mail in an internet forum is the forum equivalent of a nuclear first strike.

Seriously, these guys lie like hell every day. Anything they publish is likely to be complete horseshit.

In this case the root reference for numbers of Chinese warheads over a couple of hundred is known to be an extremely unlikely rant by a Singaporean graduate student in a 1990's vintage Usenet message.

If you see someone citing a number like that either they are trying to foment alarm or are just asshats. In the case of the Daily Mail both are very likely.

Or Honda for that matter. My Acura does this too. However calling the infotainment center something primarily intended for ripping music is bullshit. It does all sorts of other things including acting as a Sat Nav, cell phone interface AM/FM receiver, amp for the umpteen speakers, digital media playback controller for USB/iPod/IPhone and lots more. It's probably the least used feature of this system.

Not only that but $2500 is really piling on the bullshit. I bought a ripping device from TEAC several years ago that cost me less than $100. My guess is that the licence on this must have been $5 or so.

Criminy somebody needs to slap these guys down. HARD.

Give me a break. This is all about climate change, something which has a solid scientific consensus. Conservative denial of this is just as bad as their desire to push Creationism and Intelligent Design into schools. These threatened researchers are not doing politically motivated work.

NPR has been the whipping boy of conservative politicians for decades. They have been threatened with defunding many times. Because of this NPR has developed alternative sources of funds.

At present only about 10% of its revenues come from the Federal Government. NPR generally uses these attempts by Republicans to defund as a fund raising motivators.

I have heard some NPR employees say they wish the Feds would defund them. It would allow them more independence in their editorial content and would likely increase their income.

It's very unlikely that the different crime would be as rewarding financially.

The current situation results in huge flows of money into criminal organizations to the point where it destabilizes governments and funds massive corruption. Particularly in South and Central America.

One of the major items in the current news is the flood of children from central america into the US. What is the root cause of this? The flow of money from the US to drug cartels in their countries of origin.

Fix the drug problem in the United States and the flood of drug money to these criminals will dry up. It's very unlikely they will be able to find anything nearly as lucrative.

Yes I am insanely fussy about sound quality compared to most folks.

It used to be that I would get a sound card in order to get digital sound out. SPDIF so I could run it through a nice external DAC (typical good ones cost about $1K and up.).

Nowadays that isn't needed any more. Integrated sound almost always comes with SPDIF out, and most external DACs have USB capability. So I don't need sound cards to get the sound into my DAC these days.
