    The sad part is, Yahoo used to be good. They had cool cooking shows, a fantastic sports section, and the email was actually one of the best available. Almost all of that is gone, taken away by this cost-cutting CEO who trashed what was left of the company.

  2. With a minimal amount of effort, you can make Perl look as neat as any Python program. It's just the one-liners and regex stuff that gets crazy, or sloppy guys who could make Ruby impossible to figure.

    I only program for fun, and Perl is easily the most fun I've had. You can do so many things, in so many ways. This is probably a negative for some commercial applications, but for having fun at home, it's wonderful.

    We were in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, by ourselves, coming back from the Persian Gulf. I don't believe our ship had that antenna, it was an LST, and an old one, at that.

    I'm not sure what the exact name of the system was, I wasn't on the bridge. I do know it wasn't working, so they had to check positions via the stars every damn night. You shouldn't call bullshit when you don't know what you are talking about.

    On the 1991 cruise I was on when in the Navy, our ship's GPS went out. No way to fix it. We had to use compasses and star charts till we got to Pearl Harbor so it could be fixed. If the guys hadn't been trained for it, we'd have been screwed.

    You're the one with poor reading comprehension. If the bastions of scientific literature are regularly seen to be publishing falsifified research, then all of their work is put into question, even the really well done/researched stuff.

    Actually, when it gets close to collapse, the people in power will just start a BIG war. It has worked numerous times in the past, and will work again in the future. (Not a nice way to look at history, but if history has proven anything, it's that the people in power care nothing for your average citizen).

    Not sure which release was worse, Gnome 3 or KDE 4. In both cases, the UI devs went insane and for some reason, all of the other devs followed their lead.

    XFCE is way better than Gnome or KDE for home use, in my opinion. Others may not agree. It has been in limbo for a while, so hearing that it is finally getting an update is great news.
