  1. UK DTTV PVR from Pace "before Christmas" on Linux-Powered PVR/Satellite Machine · · Score: 3, Interesting

...or so I read somewhere, they'd better hurry up if they want to get it into Santa's sleigh...

So all you ex UK OnDigital subscribers who are going to be forced to return or pay for your set top box, there is hope of a getter gizmo.

This is a new suscription free PVR for the UK market that receives all the free to air DTTV channels.

Not much in the way of details or prices yet...

  2. Crazy metal tower on Realtime OS Jaluna · · Score: 1
The best (maddest) brochure that came across my desk at the time was a German supercomputer where each Transputer card was mounted and glued between two plates of water cooled aluminium, and each of the plates were sandwiched together to form a tower.

It would compute the weather 3 days hence, and power clean your car at the same time.

    Now that's heavy computing power...

And they had a real nice development kit too - I should know ;-)

  4. What about intensity? on New Display Technology to Compete with LCDs? · · Score: 1

Hmm, looks clever but I couldn't see how they'd encode brightness - the pixels can only be on or off. Did I miss something?

  5. Re:stinky... on Wired Releases Annual Vaporware List · · Score: 2, Funny

    This is all old hat.

I've been using an HP StinkJet(tm) 630C for years.

They recently issued a plugin for IE94.6 that adds smell to web-sites (if they use whiff-script or Java Whifflets).

The official StinkJet(tm) cartriges are quite expensive, but you can refill the various cartrige resevoirs with tinctures made of household products, old laundry and composting mackerel fillets.

I've noticed I get through a lot of mackerel when viewing www.microsoft.com...

  6. WAP thru AvantGo on PDAs Converting Mobile Phones into WAP Devices? · · Score: 1

I can connect to some WAP sites using AvantGo both on and off line. It's perfectly useable on the sites I've tried. Try creating a custom AvantGo channel that points to: http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/mainmenu.wml Way better than messing about with my phone and I get the entire site instantly on my palm and in under 60K.
