$100,000 is alot, I agree. But lets consider how much a major movie costs. On average, it cost around $35 million to make a major motion picture for wide release (and that's not including advertising, which can triple that amount). But, at the most we only spend $9 dollers when we go to watch one! On top of that, not all of the $9 goes to the studios either; part of it goes to the theater. So, your argument does not hold up very well when comparied to other related markets.
Philadelphia Police is considered one of the worst police outfits in the country. But you don't have to take may word for it. Go here to see for yourself.
Warn me about what? Are you frightened that he will use the submissions for some evil plot?
Or, becuase you have some grudge against him, and your just using this opportune time to feebly shoot down one of the must well respected men in the hacker community.
This may be bit off topic but did anyone see Fight Club? (if you didn't it's an execelent movie to see.) Well, I was just wondering, did anybody chuckle when Edward Norton's character, the main character, was told to imagine his "power animal". For those of you who didn't see it yet, it turned out be a penguin! Is David Fincher (the director) or Jim Uhls (screenplay writer) paying homage to linux? Or was this just something pulled from a hat?
Amen. Finally, someone who told the truth and so eloquently at that. Although I do not agree that Virtual Us are the answers to the problems facing students, I do agree though that higher education system does need major reform.
Learn by doing --what a wonderful concept! Anyone will admit this beats siting passively in a dimmed classroom for hours on end looking at slide projections.
I couldn't imagine a bigger waste of time for my graduate students than to take a course in numerical processing by computers when they were trying to build smart machines. One thing had nothing to do with the other... The requirement was there because of political compromise.
I can really relate to that. Get rid of the unnecessary required courses. If it is not related to what I am going to do in the future, I should have the choice not to take it. Now, if only I can tell my numerical analysis teacher.:-)
Get ride of tenure. I think this is one of the greatest evils of higher education. It breads unwanted politics and creates some of the worst professors to ever teach, since some do not have to worry about being fired if they teach poorly.
Oh, you forgot he invented trickle economics too!!! What a genius!

I agree. But wouldn't it be a better for the producers to let the filmmakers (i.e. director, writer) create the movie they imagine than to force the filmmakers to follow some crappy formula aimed at the lowest common denominator --must have a happy ending, politically correct, must appeal to the widest audience as possible? Every year they use the same formula to churn out the same crap every year, which people, I believe, are now sick of to see. I know I am.
What they need to do is found more independents, market them adequately, and give them wider screen access, as they do their formula films. I am sure they would make back there investments if not make a killing like with the BWP.
