I say why not use REAL weapons: guns, flamethrowers, EMP devices, etc. That would pique my interest. Have the announcers discuss why a particular bot has to have a Faraday cage around it when the other robot does something. Also, it would bring testing to a whole new level. Fireproofed, shock proofed, etc.
Just my $.02

All things are possible, except skiing thru a revolving door.
Looks like a step backwards...like when you had a VGA game in DOS that need to take up an entire screen and had to re-write the drivers for every game. But that's just my take.
Well, if they replace it with a "look out for this bug" and are nice about cracking the site, give shouts out, etc., I have no problem...but this is just plain rude.
Well, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and everything, but I tried getting XFS to work, and it was like pulling teeth. Once it was on, it acted...quirky...System performance was the same in some cases, but when I had to pull out deleted package trees on it, oh momma did it ever suck (no flame intended). IMHO, Reiser is the all around more averaged and optimum choice.
Out here at Cal Poly Pomona, we have an Electrical Engineering Head who loves RAMBUS and Intel Pentium 4. What I've started to do is simply print out the articles that point out how the Pentium 4 is going to suck, and RAMBUS is going/in the process of going down. Slowly but surely, he is starting to come around. Tell him how his boxes are in danger if you see a security hole on their server that isn't fixed. Email what it would enable someone else to do. Explain to them that you are doing it because you still wish to maintain them as a prospective client, even though you lost the account. Be nice, not forceful. As if it were a friend you were helping out. When they come across enough of these "Anyone with a mouse and 30 seconds worth of time can gain root access to my entire box.", she'll turn around and ask about linux. It may take time. But be cheerful, helpful, and you'll win just about anyone over.
Then again, this is my prospective, I could be wrong.
But isn't an ASP just like any service provider? If you don't plan ahead and read where trends are going, you are doomed. Trying to stay based on one technology alone is probably what did these poor fellows in. That, and not consolidating or striking big as things slowly moved up from mom and pop shops to corporations.
I have a CS clan going (IKYN) and we have clan matches all the time. To have a seperate spectator server would mean we could record it, and review our moves to see where we went wrong! That would be cool...to have a "coaches clicker" for the entire clan match, where the players move forwards and backwards as you need to, so you can refine your game.
Condensation? I still think that would be a major problem in something like this. You'd get water in the case. But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.
This has been a problem from the get-go...there was a recent slashdot article awhile ago (Like 4 months back) where the guy details all the problems that the Pentium IV is going to have. Basically, it sounds like they sacrificed all the gains of the last 10+ years for raw clock speed. Now, it seems, it is coming back to bite them in the ass. Too bad. Unlike MickeySoft, Intel actually had some competition, and managed to stay afloat. Looks like the tides gonna be 'aturnin'.
The problem is that they made a product for nobody...it was nice and userfriendly, but the Mac had had that for years.
As for it's multimedia stuff, Mac had that market cinched up good too. Music, Audio, and video were taken up with Mac.
As for nice to customize, and a loyal following, Linux has that market. Following in that same light, It simply didn't have anything "mision-critical" If you really wanted to follow it, Video Toaster had the video market and will probably have it for some time to come.
I've been waiting 4 years for a GITS2. Now if someone would only finish Battle Angel Alita, make a non-crappy ending to both Neon Genesis Evangelion and Akira, and make a Macross+ part two, I could die a happy man.

Recon 2k is coming up. Might want to transfer cases for that thing. I wonder what a Beowulf cluster of thoset things would be like!.
Seriously, I wonder if it might be better to just drill out 4 5" holes on the side of the case, hook up some seriously bad-ass AC fans, and just crank that bad boy to a plug just before the input to the power supply. Anything is better than 5/12V DC. Go AC. Tesla had MUCH better ideas than Edison!
But I think that addition to any long-tem email database wherein express Typed or electronically "signed" admittance has been attained should be illegal. It amounts to harassment, really. But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.
First of all, as for doing whatever you want to your own bodies, the law already says what you can and can't do. You CAN'T take drugs on your body. You CAN'T prostitute your body, etc. In most states, if you commit suicide, it is illegal. (I don't know HOW they can prosecute, but oh well.) And as for "making your partner suffer for a mutually bad decision" that is a lie. You don't want to take responsibility for the baby once it comes out. Abortion as a means of birth control is lazy, and trying to get out of paying for what you've caused. You play with fire, and you get burned, don't get out of it by making an unborn pay for it. That's the mark of immaturity. And as for people who claim "what if it threatens the parents or is the result of a rape?" Well, those kinds or situations only account for less than 1% of all abortions. 99% are for convienence. But make of it what you will.
THAT would be an excellent Open Source project...maintain an email hitlist of all M$ employees....spam them every time they do something stupid. Could be cool.
Maybe have the cgi/perl/etc. in an openly browseable Directory? So that people could view and download them? Might be a good idea? Maybe ask RMS to rewrite the GPL to allow for that?
Then again, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.
Wouldn't the fact that the X-Box is using x86 assembly make it easier to make an emulator for it? IIRC, isn't one of the most difficult problems with current reverse engineering for emulation the translation of different assembly calls?
I thought my School was the only people to still used 68HC11s.
Amazing...they have crappy assembly. The calls have the name of the register in themselves (CPYBX would copy B to X, instead of "MOVE B X" wich is a little more diverse)

Those are *MY* thoughts. They will not become *YOUR* thoughts until the orbital mind control lasers are in place.
That was a good book. excellently done, on par with 1984 and Fareinheit(sp?) 451. If you haven't read it, excellent. And now this. Whoa.
For those of you who aren't quite sure of the implications, throughout the whole of the book "Do Androids Sleep of Electronic Sheep", he (the author) deftly tips you this way and that in regards to whether the protagonist is the same as what he is hired to gun down. Also, seeing as he was trying to kill them, that adds a whole different angle to that. Which is ironic, because the whole book deals with the moral issue of "what makes a human?" I think I'll be re-reading it now.
Hmm...wonder if they knew this when they made the movie??
Anyone know about the sequel that came out a few years ago?
Sorry...but until Mozilla has the plugin (read: Flash) support, and speeds up its loading time and rendering engine, I will still stick to Nutscrape Communicator.
I know it will be just a matter of time, but I certainly wish that they would be quick about it. I'm getting hives from using Netscape. Motif truly blows.
