    If he's using a Mac and Safari, there's literally no way to do that, since the entire windowing system is built on top of PostScript, so PDFs open automatically in basically everything.

    That's because in the Ubuntu mindset, Compiz = Compositing. Now that several window managers have their own compositing (GNOME 3's WM, Unity, KWin) it can cause collisions. The same thing happens when you try to fullscreen a KVM or QEMU virtual machine with a compositor running.

    Hopefully, the horrendous quality of all this lowest-bidder outsourced crapware (both hard- and soft-) will leave a market for people to bring manufacturing, and thus jobs, back to first-world nations, and (in my own selfish mind) the US in particular. I don't know about the average consumer, but I'd gladly pay more for a better, more durable product.

    Linux had 64-bit Flash by mid-2008. They just scrapped it, since it sucked horribly, and 'Square' is the beginning of essentially Flash64 version 2.x.

    A user list? If people are too stupid to remember their username, they don't deserve to log in. Also, unless you're running some sort of ancient pre-ACPI system (in which case you're likely running Puppy, not Ubuntu), you can just press the power button to shut down.

    I'm at a university with ~15,000 students and a Class B. We only stopped having routable IP addresses for wifi clients last semester.

    That's why vsftpd defaults to anonymous FTP with no anonymous upload/delete access and runs in a root-squashed environment.
