Kind of happened to me about 3 yrs ago.. we had some dum hacker types at our college.. they basically peaked at running key loggers.
I was very keen (and still am) on computers and spent all my time writing an internal mailing system as the admins had disabled all the usual mailing routines for our network..
Whilst checking out the dir i kept my prog in (which was on a unsecure drive so that anyone could use it to send mail..) i found one of these keylog files in it masquerading as one of my data files:(
Next thing i know im being carried down the hall.. limited to the use of just 1 pc out of the whole college (and only if i am supervised) then made to sign some legal document about the data protections act (im in the uk.. but you looked at the URL of my home page and new that already didnt you:) )
As for education.. it all sucks imho.. the computing course i did at college was superb and i find it amusing that in the 2 years it lasted, it went into more detail about the same topics that the Degree course i am doing at the moment does. (hello reading uni.. you suck) It does mean i get an easy ride tho:)
you forget that the RIP bill gave our government the rights to ask us to hand over any public/private keys or passwords whatever for decryption.. they can even ask us for our ATM pincodes if they want.. and if we have forgotten.. or refused.. 3yrs in the slammer..
and if we tell anyone our security has been compromised.. thats a further 5..
Logging all emails? Huh? Not all email goes via an ISP. You can't make everyone log all their emails themselves - I don't believe this part of the leglislation is practical or indeed possible.
The RIP bill gives the government the right to log ALL packets that pass any part of a network owned by an ISP in the UK.. Thus a few 'black boxes' in certain key points will let them get all this info, inc. packets containing email data..
As for practicality, apparently GCHQ has already set up a large data storage system specifically for the task..
I cant wait till we all hav microchips in our brains.. so that they can log what we think..
Also.. anyone been the the crap as you like millenium dome recently? Did yer notice the way that 50% of the displays are information gatherers? Time capsule my ass..
Hopefully well soon be having a second guy fawkes day.. but this time celebrating the deaths of all our members of parliment.. cos they all really need to go into something that require less thought.. like bag packing in a SafeWays fs..
Apparently you can save monsters that you have morphed/created and use them in wicked multiplayer matches..
I dont know if any of you have looked at the office plan at the website.. but i too would really like to work somewhere where they have a 'chill out room';)
Cambridge University entered a robot in the UK Robot Wars series twice.. it was wicked.. cevlar/titanium all over the place iir.. and nice meaty tank treads... i think it cost £15k or something....
Problem is each robot entered lost like it's first battle by falling down 'the hole' or something equally lame..
Could this nano-probe technology be Steve's fabled project x?
PROJECT-X's display will expose crucial information that's been hidden inside your computer by people who have their best interests in mind, not yours.
It automatically finds easter eggs?
I DO know how bizarre this sounds. "Hidden truths?" "Other people in control?" "Unnerving secrets buried in our computers?" I wouldn't blame you for thinking that I'm being deliberately over-dramatic, and you might wonder what I've been smoking out here in Southern California. Or whether, perhaps, I've become a little too involved with the X-Files TV show.
Currently I'm thinking about dolphin sex.. but that's what happens when you read/. posts:-(
I don't yet know for sure that I can even do what PROJECT-X requires..
This is the line I like the most.. it sounds like the guy is trying to write the all-in-one point-and-click hacking tool or something. 'Yeah.. just type in the IP address and click go.. you'll automatically be placed in a shell account as root.. or if it's windows.. NetBus will automatically be installed for you.. ??'
Has anyone joined the mailing list to 'apprised of my progress'?
..I couldn't find any links to the nano-project on the main site..but I didn't look that hard.. maybe this initial article was describing it?

- I don't have a.sig.. I type this in by hand each time!
What would the fesabilty be of having a case for a computer made out of lego? Would their be a great chance of hit melting the case into a big mess of goo? Also unless extra metal parts were added there would likely be no magnetic shielding and the case wouldn't be grounded.....
But the thing is... would any of that matter... it would be wicked indeed to have a Legt ATX form factor case... with loads of little windows you could open if it ever got to hot =:-) and you could put people in it.. and build seesaws... and make castl....

Why don't they just include binaries for all OS's on the CD.. I play games under both Win and Lin depending on my mood (and whats been booted into at the time!!) and I'm sure as hell not gonna buy 2 copies of the same game when i can just buy 1 and patch it to the different OS.. and as all games generally are made for windows i just buy the windows version and patch it for linux rather than the other way round!!

ill probably get a rating of one for this message as I am drunk and cant type properly! I never knew Espy and now I never will, but I have been patiently waiting for Debian 2.2 since before May. All I can say is that I am sorry that someone who appears to be so talented has died in the prime of there life. I am only a year younger (20) and know practicaly nothing! I've wanted to develop for Linux for a while, and Debian has been my favourite distro. For some reason now I am going to force myself to find the time. It seems Joel did a lot of good work for the community and was well respected.. something not many of us can actually claim! Again, all I can say if sorry! Also I am glad that sofar I havent seen any TROLL mesdages, for once some repsect!! Idimmu Xul www.carpathia.force9.co.uk
