    Martyr? No, I don't think so. But I still think he deserves respect because he is a dedicated open source coder. I'm not fond of enlightenment, and regarding rasterman, I don't know him. But I still think it's wrong to tell a guy who has done so much coding, to "hit the road and don't come back". I for one, am not fond of his work, But I still consider he deserves respect.. I also think that if you're going to flame aperson like that, you should stand up for it, and put you're name on you're post! So all respect to you stodge, you put both you're name and hompage (mine is hem.passagen.se/angbad, but it sucks...) over you're post. And I didn't say anything about him being amartyr, did I?

    I thought that "COMMY" hating type of thing went away after the cold war.. Guess I'm wrong.

    If Rasterman wan't to work for now pay, and do the community a great deal of good, thats fine with me, and that kind of work deserves respect. If it wasn't for people like Rasterman the open source community wouldn't have been where it is today..

    And as for you my friend, of course you shouldn't work for 16 hours and let you're kids starve! But if Rasterman wan't to do that (I bet ya he doesn't have kids to take care of). Thats great!

    Those little crystal packets are silicone (I'm quite sure, and if I'm wroong, I'm 100% sure that someone will correct me). They are there to suck up the moist from the air to protect the chips..

    I'm a FreeBSD Beastie, but I still seem to know more about Linux than you..

    Linus, not Linux. Linus likes penguins, *Linux* is the kernel. As for *demonic unix roots*. What?!

    But I do agree on one point, the Linux logo sucks. The *BSD logo rules.

    I suggest that you try a couple of Linux dists, and also the *BSDs as well, before settlig on Linux. Why not educate on admin of unix, while running you're current system. open source solution for you're company, and you can see how long time it would take to get a system up and running. I doubt it would en incredible amount of time for sysadmins to learn unix. So educat one so that he can teach the others.

    I must sadly admit that I've only tried FreeBSD, I intend to try Open and Net as soon as I have the possibility. But if you run a PC, FreeSBD is a great os, in my opinion quite a bit better that linux (stability/speed). I've run Linux before, quite a few dists... So give FreeBSD a try!

    I've been using Linux before, mostly SuSE, and I experienced that Netscape was (just like many of you guys said) extremely unstable. I've been using FreeBSD for some time now, and it's much more stable, crashes very seldom. Thats funny because the Linux version is under "supported" and the FreeBSD version is under "unsupported".

    I'm not trying to start a flame war here, just pointing out the irony. :)

    Hey, if /. ever runs into som legal problems or need a new server or something, ask for donations. I'm a poor student, but still, I, like most people can spend a $ or two, and a $ or two from all of the /. readers is quite a lot.. An example of this kind of support is www.flashback.org, they have recived donations from a lot of people (the owner is beig sued..). So if /. needs money, count me in!

    I've been using a scsi drive lately. I used to use a udma, BIG DIFFERENCE! My computer is much faster, and I can write cds in 4X while im browsing, writing, playing games (the few that exist for unix), and there are no problems at all. When I installed from a IDE cd to a scsi drive i got 1200kbs per sec. with IDE to IDE i got around 600kbs. Now I use a scsi cdrom as well and mys ystem flies!

    I knew a guy who went to jail for rape. He always said he was innocent. (i speak of him in post-tence because i havn't seen him for a long time) He was seing a girl for some time and she had serious problems. Then one day she pressed charges... She had been raped she said. The court sent the guy to prison without any strong proof (they had sex thats all) and got out after a year or so (I live in Sweden NOT the US). He will always have difficulties finding a job (who will hire a rapist) and people will always frown upon him. If a girl screams RAPE! the court always believes the girl not the guy!

    exept in Italy...

    In most cases the guy is probably guilty but if he isn't...

    I still remember when i was 10 or so and i had a MacPlus and my mouse broke, when i tried to buy a new one, Apple didn't make those anymore (now that sucks).

    Ok but seriously...

    I think it's great to have people like RMS to protect us from the big-ugly-evil-companys :-)

    There is absolutly no reason for Apple to help the Open-Source community, they just want free proggrammers!

    Sometime ago there was a post on /. regarding some people that where being sued for badmouthing a company on Yahoo!

    For me (i live in Sweden) that feels very distant, in Sweden we have freedom of speech, something that the US government seems to have a problem adapting...
