    that FPS cheating isn't as prevalent as RPG cheating -- in FPS, there is nothing at stake. there is no persistence. you cheat, you win one game. in an RPG, the stakes are much higher. you cheat, you can acquire stuff that you keep indefinitely.

    is people seem to think that a manual hand-count will be more accurate than the machine count. if all ballots were filled out correctly, then this would be absolutely false. the manual hand count is only useful in cases where the voter's intent needs to be interpreted. otherwise, you are just introducing a new level of human error.

    and another thing -- i really think bush is hurting himself by taking legal action to stop the recounts. if he is so confident of his victory, then he should feel confident that recounts would only serve to reinforce and LEGITIMIZE his victory. otherwise, he will forever serve with an asterisk next to his name, and prove completely inneffective.

    look, i've been a professional web developer for about 5 years now (ancient, true, but they haven't been able to force me into retirement yet .. these young whippersnappers don't know how good they've got it .. why, in my day, the only function of javascript was to generate errors, and we LIKED it! but i digress)

    see, i COULDN'T CARE LESS whether or not it conforms to a given set of standards. i just want the darn thing to work as i'd expect it to, which right now, i'm sorry, NS6 (and mozilla) are a LOOOONG way from doing. if they diverged from the standard, but did it smoothly and intelligently, then that would be JUST FINE. trust me, we web dev folks will FIGURE IT OUT. but unfortunately, NS conforms to the standards in a clunky and unwieldy way while IE continues to be just plain smarter.

    this just shows how most adults never grow out of the high school mentality. they grow up, get jobs, and still can't see through the childish BS of their glory years.

    a kid comes along and wants to reject these values, and not only can they not accept it, but they fear it enough to pronounce him guilty of "disrupting school activities" which of course is usually code for "we didn't like the way he looked" but in this case has been expanded to "we didn't like the way he thought."

    repubs are fond of citing the fact that the richest ten percent pay 33% of the taxes .. well ya know what? they own *90%* of the wealth, so by my calculations they're actually paying significantly less, proportionally, than poor people. sheesh.

    ok it's flamebait .. but i'll respond anyway .. boohoo you have to give more money than poor people do to the big bad federal government that builds and maintains the roads, provides your safety net once you get old, educates you and your children, protects your oh-so-important monetary interests here and abroad, and invented the internet (which is probably the reason for your success in the first place). democracy only works if there is opportunity for the non-successful to become successful. OLD money is stagnant money. i feel so sorry for rich people who have to suffer being slightly less rich while poor people are allowed to walk the streets.

    well i don't know much, but i do know i can EASILY tel lthe difference between 30 FPS and 60 FPS. and anyways, this ISN"T EVEN THE ISSUE. i take offense at /. DEBUNKING the 200 FPS thing. us video card geeks are not idiots. we KNOW there's no practical purpose to overclicking our GeForce2 GTS's and squeezing out 100 or so more 3DMarks. it's a HOBBY. it's an obsession. it's a penis size thing. leave us alone.

    FPS is nice. having totally fluid motion, yeah, it's great and it's important. but high quality full-screen anti-aliasing is really what can make a video card stand out. even though they are totally 0wN3d by the GeForce series in virtually every other category, the Voodoos still have greatly superior FSAA. you can set the Voodoo to a lower resolution .. say 1024x768 or even 800x600 and the FSAA makes it look as good or better than a GeForce at significantly higher resolutions. having said that, though, i still say the GFs are easily the better cards, as the Voodoos are just falling too far behind in pure horsepower.

    you should have given StarCraft more of a chance. it was a GREAT GREAT game, which told a GREAT story. something realt-time strategies DONT do, including WarCraft II. Starcraft *WAS* revolutionary. three completely different races with totally differeny philosophies of conquest and yet STILL all 3 compete with relative balance on Blizzard's free battle.net servers. not only that, but it is easily the slickest and tightest RTS ever developed.
