Actually you should be able to get away with 6 DVB-T tuners (in the UK) and record all 30 channels, as a DVB card *should* allow you access to the mpeg stream (which contains 5 or 6 channels).
Trouble is Sky, NTL and Telewest. a DVB-S and/or a DVB-C card should, with a CAM, allow you to use their services. If you have an NTL cable sub, you can't plug the card into your DVB-C card, as the card and STB are married which is annoying.
Free DVB-T is the only way forward unless oyu want proprietry crap like sky plus.
It makes money because people listen to it, people liten to it because they like it, like it or not, the average "slashdotter" music is the same as the average "rebel student magazine music ed" music - total crap.
An option to block traffic from certain hosts and/or to certain ports on the head end would be useful. Hell they could, by default, block all incoming ports under 1024 and a bunch of other, for all I care. As long as I have full control over turning it off then I'd be happy.
This century, it's the Internet. 200 (or so) years ago, it was coffeehouses.
So in 2204 we'll be watching the final episode of a program where 6 average new-new-yorkers are gathered on an IRC channel with 50 million people watching?
if results come back "#linux_sluts - Sluts who get naked and slutty for linux guys XXX", then chances are that's not a good place to discuss the latest kernel.
I was under the impression that the Coastguard was a funded government thing that mans the radar, working closely with Customs and Navy. The RNLI is a vollenteer thing that rescues people.
That's not true. The onus is on the TV licencing authority (nothing to do with the BBC incidentally) to prove that you (a) have a device capable of receiving BBC channels and (b) that you haven't paid for the licence.
Close, they must prove you have a device that is *used* to (not just capable of) receive ANY TV channel broadcast from the UK, including sky and ITV.
No, things havent changed too much. As a BBC Tech in News Support, in the last 6 months I've spent 15 weeks on training courses worth over $25k at the current exchange rates, the job security is unparalleled too, but yes, wages suck, and the bulk of the BBC is based in London:(
Somehow I doubt I'll be one of the 500 to get a free PDA though, however I look forward to a surprise email when I get into work:D
But how are you to know that? If someone is sitting in a shop and the doors open and you walk in and buy something, is it your fault that's it's actually someone that's hijacked the store while the owner is away?
VEry confused, if someone has a world writable ftp directory, and contacts your computer, surely they dont mind you uploading to their computer? Whats the difference between that and sending an email?
Or how about just one spectrum analyzer and I can decode thousands of channels at once in software. The Pentium M can do that, right?
Yes it can, just not in realtime.
Now a beowulf cluster...

Mozilla - the new Emacs. Bloated, and lacking a decent text editor!
Yup, UNIXware is the next big thing!
You yanks use Cheques?
I harness the power of globalisation to buy my music from countries where it's cheaper, like Russia. 6 cents a song for example.
If multinationals can outsource IT to india, then I can buy goods from India. Globalisation is the great leveller.

How many times have I seen two Rhinos doing the nasty with some British snooty guy
I don't know, I didn't realise you worked for Prince Charles

Which networks that?!?!?
No, cause its easier and faster to install and run, and doesn't suffer from virus of the week
It's a gigantic Frisbie. The reason its elongated is it's travelling near the speed of light.

The AA - To their members they're the fourth emergency service
You're assuming people will install SP2

Now lets see something a slashdot reader can afford. :)
What? A Couple of Onion Bargis and a Vindaloo?
For example, you could pipe text into it by illuminating letters in succession.
Yeah, at 500cpm that'll be easy to follow!

My firewall is literally a burning wall, DDOS me and I get a large dinner
