"On June 17th it was announced that the final milestone in the IEEE standards approval process was reached last week when the IEEE 802.3ae specification for 10 Gigabit Ethernet was approved as an IEEE standard by the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) Standards Board."
Is it just me, or is the abbreviation 'IEEE' appears a lil' bit too much in that paragraph?
That and the word Standards. the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) Standards Board, which Standardises the Standardisation of Standards.
I started as a hunt&peck and then found that after a while i would use other fingers and swap between the two. I've found that the standard typing positions dont work very well for me. the mix I've developed over the years is not very fast but as you say it lets me pop in odd characters that just dont come up as often with normal typing... and lets me rest differnt parts of my hands a i type.
when you say Kids how old do you mean? I'm guessing you mean young teenage... and I'm Not surprised... people in general dont talk about "such things"
I dont expect children to know about all the horrors of the world... then again I've also been told the schools in the US do little to no world history... the one that scared me was the 45% of Americans beleive the world was made some time in the last 10,000 years... that came up in SA a few months ago...
To make that statement implies that you think that there is no situation in which it is proper to kill. I respectfully disagree. The situations that spring readily to mind are: War, self-defense (against an individual or a government when all other means of redress have failed).
There may be situations where killing is neccesary, how ever i dont think its ever proper to kill, and while I agrea that in the event of a war (should i ever have to worry about being in one) i'd rather be on the side with the better tech... but having said that I dont think that weapon reseach is justifide... saying its ok to kill in war is one thing... saying it's ok to develop mines that crawl towards the sound/heat of people , or superpowerful smart weapons is another.
I have more respect for some one who believes killing is wrong for any reasons than someone who thinks that the following statment is ok... "of course we believe mines should be banned , except when we use them, because we'll only use them in special cases."
any speeling mistakes do not make my point less valid...
Unless they created an equivalent amount of anti-matter to the mass of the Earth, there is little risk for destroying our planet.
Umm you mean totaly converting the mass of the earth to enrgey... I'm sure that it would take a lot less to just blow it in to bitts the size of my head. and even less to jusst blow the first 1km of surface off...
It is possible despite the many (uninformed) negative comments that have appeared concerning this truly amazing breakthrough in compression technology. I, myself, using my own patented compression technology - The Shannon-Transmogrificator (TM) have managed to compress the entire Reuters article to a mere 4 ASCII characters (!), with essentially no loss in meaning: 'C', 'R', 'A', 'P'. I wonder if anyone can improve on this ?
which can be compressed to POO , which is 75% the lenght of your result.
In one way I agree and in an other I'm anoyed, It said "Your Pc in 2004" . not the average PC, it's fair enough for them to say that the average PC will be using MS windows 2004 (or what ever they'll be calling it) but it seems like they thought of linux and then thought "even people who use it now wont be using linux"
there where a number of other things in that article that anoyed me... one thing was sound... What sort of sound cards will be around in 2004?
which reminds me of something that was overheard at a pedestrian light a good while ago... when the lights changed and started to beep, one woman turned to the person beside her and asked "why do all the lights here make that beeping noise?", She was then informed that the beeping was so blind people would know when the lights had changed... to which she replied in amazement, "Wow!, In America we dont let the blind drive!"...
Lego is easy because all you need is Imagination... yes Meccano is more complex, it requires more planning that lego. Let them play with lego, untill they get their minds planing things out more before they start... then give them more complex things...
the driver had to stay in, and it had to keep anough wheels to move... I cant remember the other rules...
OH and "building Lego cars" is correct as is "cars from Lego bricks" (although "lego brand bricks" sounds odd) , it incorect to say "cars made of Legos
I'm interested in how you went about setting up sealand... I know i should read the history and I'm off to do that in a little while after i finish posting/reading news... but anyway back to my point.
I've looked in to the possiblity of setting up some thing like sealand before... although at the time i'd never heard of sealand...
any way I think you should (if you have not all ready ) look at the page below... the info on sea concreate was interesting , as was the otec stuff(set off a big splurge of research on the net)
http://www.luf.org/artisle.html
Grr I'm posting crap again...
http://www.luf.org/artisle.html
This page has a lot of info and thought on forming states... can a corp. form a state on a unclaimed island... can a group of normal people, etc. oh and it talks about making islands aswell... hummmm
Basically, they suggest that by rapidly applying and removing a magnetic field on a superconductor, they may be able to violate the law of conservation of momentum. My guess is that this isn't going to happen (for values of 'guess' approaching 'absolutely certain')
/snip
well not if you think of it in a group of them... one on its own will just jump back and forth, but add a large number of them and they can push off each other and yes i know its silly but think of something on a table vibrating it moves because each time it vibrates it jumps a little, and then it jumps back but why does'nt it just wobble back and forth? because it pushes agaist the table, yes but the reason it only pushes agaist the table in one direction is evrey time it jumps foreward and lands, it does'nt vrbrate the other way as fast(with less moment.) in space you have nothing to push of, but it would still have an effect (more so if you had say ten groups of ten fireing one at a time inorder)...... off i go to draw a diagram...
Ahh you see...wait i'm replying to the wrong post... ok but I'll go on any way. It's not agaist the 3rd law... because there is an opposite reaction, the recoil of the magnet . . and you are using energy , you have to make a mad big Field for this to work . that takes power... so what happens when the magnets jump and try to move away from the metal but are stoped ?
does the effect just go away ? no it cannt. s oit either causes heat... except that these are supercooled superconductor. so what happens then?
say you have a large number of these fireing in a well progtramed squence, say the first x magnets fire and jump forward in there cases , then the next x fire, then the next x fire, at this point the first ones have been moved back to the start positions by the movement of the others...
(think of a vibrator on the floor) except the floor is'nt there so what does it push against ? what about the movement of the other magnets...
any way i'm off to look for some info on the topic..
If one has an increased number of cones giving better colour vision. does this decrease the number of rods?, and would'nt this make ones night vision less useful? I've heard that birds have much better colour vision than us but that their night vision is very poor. also do men who are colour blind have better night vision or is it just that they have defective cones not less... ? what about those people with true colour blindness... I wonder do they have good night vision...
Not being able to use a computer does not make you stupid
No it does not make you stupid, but I did'nt say they are stupid I said they either are't smart enough or dont know enough to figure things out on their own (or in some cases they're lazy).
I get peolpe who have very little english asking me for help asking for example "how i...put... save... Attach something" and when i go over to them there looking at an italian webmail site and i dont speake italian but find the right button 2nd or 3rd try... yet they cannt find it by reading it them selves. I dont mind people not knowing how to fix a computer or how it works or how to install things (hardware or software) but people who cann't/wont learn how to do the things they are trying to do anoy me. someone in a car does not turn to the person and ask would you do the gears for me and i'll just hold the round thing and turn it when we get near a turn... and if the 747 with an aol user at the controls... *shudder* "that white fluffy thing was'nt there yesterday!" *PANIC* *CRASH*
If my TV was like a computer i could have it flip thought the channels skipping over the programs i hate or just flip between a set of the best programs/channels and put back in the lyrics that MTv Bleeps over... with picture in picture of 8 channels and...... and... have it filter out adds and put in music brakes insted.
I work in a CyberCafe and every day 10 -> 20 people will ask me some really stupid question or make some really stupid comment...
one of the most irritating is...
"you system is brocken and I can't get in to hotmail"
no the reason you cant get in to hotmail is because you typing your username / passwd in to the boxes on iemail...
and one time someone told me that they could'nt get in to their email a/c because of the "firewall in work" and would'nt let me finish telling her that typing in her Email address and password in the username box of iemail would not get her anywhere near her a/c. and dont get me started on people who use aol... let me just quote "but i dont need a password at home"...and "can i send an EMAIL to someone in america... does it cost more to send a mail to america"
.
needles to say that alot of people using the web have no understanding of what it is... let alone how it works...
They just know the few little things that they have been shown and dont know enough/are'nt bright enough to figure out anything beyond what they do know....
..
The only real solution would be to go in with an army, kill/imprison the dictators, impose a democratic government,..
Can you really impose democratic government?
..
It advances our society as a whole by answering an incredibly deep question about our universe: are we alone?..
The Answer is No... other than the Humans there are dolphins and elephants... oh and some Parrots are as inteligent(reasoning+vocab) as small children
..
If we never pass on parts of our knowledge or culture to other civilizations, is there any point to our existence as a species? ..
Is there a point? what an odd question, does there need to be a point? Why are we here is a different question to how did we come to exist. is there a reason that we are here, a Great Plan for Humanity ? is that what you mean ?
The key word here is TRANSPARENT... my lenses are trnsparent, at least the seem to be... hum well i can see so light must be going though them... i could be wrong though... wrong like a fox! .
I would think that over all you would have vey little chance of killing a Dragon with a sword. A Dragon Slayer would carry a sword for use against people and people sized things... but to kill a Dragon you'd want someing bigger Polearms and long speers in to the back of the neck or something along the lines of whaling harpoons with explosive heads
