Like many, I cut my teeth on Slackware in 1995. There was just something about it -- even then, Windows sucked, OS/2 was cool but lacked the "tinker" factor and unix was unix. I would have never thought back then that Linux would become what it is today.
Congrats Slackware, you've certainly helped many a generation of sysadmins and tinkerers along the way.
I've had good success with Quake II and Age of Empires -- the original one.
Quake II has a co-op mode, and my (girlfriend at the time) really got into it. Then I started on Age of Empires (the 1997 game) and since we can team up, we played that plenty.
But we haven't played other games, not from lack of trying. I think the success factors for those two games: - Simple, Easy to play - The game eventually ends - Did I mention Simple?
When we got bored with AoE we eventually tried AoE II. The game was much more complex than the original AoE, and a game tended to "never end" -- you'd save and continue the same game forever, whereas AoE we had it down to a 45 minute to 1 hour game.
That being said, my wife got into the Sims, and I didn't, so a gamine duo we are not. And I don't push it either.
In the end, he should buy a small car in addition to keeping his truck. If he uses the small car all the time, he'll still have his truck to haul the heavy loads without incurring any cost for leasing.
Don't forget that power brakes operate on engine vacuum. If the throttle is nailed, there is no engine vacuum, and with one or two taps on the brakes, the brake booster's vacuum is emptied. Try braking a rolling car with the engine off and no vacuum in the brake booster. It ain't easy.
That's a good point. I was just about to counter with something like 'but the WRX, as a product, includes a shifter' but you are right -- they are selling this as a Laptop+Windows product.
I don't think you *need* to be always available -- you're simply choosing this as a way of life. You could decide to work as a mechanic, where you don't even need a cell phone for your work.
I hope game developers don't forget about those who prefer to stay out of the online experience. As a gamer in his early 30's, I got turned off by the online game experience years ago. At the risk of sounding scruff, I don't want to deal with childish and immature personalities, and the amount of crud coming from other peoples' microphones.
You said:
What if I run over some kid on a bicycle? Then you said:
I drink as much as I like whenever I like, because I don't have a car. Make up your mind. Not having a car doesn't mean it's impossible for you to drink and drive.
RMFP - The OP simply wants companies to exchange scratched media, no questions asked. If the product is defective, fine, but you know -- everyone will just let their dog chew on the disc then want a new one.
How about you shut up, and go do something, versus tell other people what NOT to do. Have you read this carefully? Have you given this any thought at all before typing it?
Seems everyone is in the business of making a user-friendly OS. No one has yet understood that we have tons of user-friendly OSes and that the OS is not the problem?

The Eclipse Andmore project takes off where ADT left off. It's still in infancy, so don't hesitate to get involved:

Thanks for the laughs... Well done.
Rob,
Been reading Slashdot for 14 years. Like many, I posted more back then, but I've always checked in regularly.
You did good -- this place won't be the same without you.
Thanks for everything, and good luck moving forward.
My Timex Sinclair I got in early 1982 still works like a charm... Granted, it's 6 years younger than this, but it's still almost 30 years old!
You could buy a small car with the saving...

I know this is offtopic, but please accept my condolences for your loss. I cannot imagine anything worse than the loss of a child.

Is that you, uncle Clint?
ThankÃ(TM)s, now IÃ(TM)ll go learn the usageÃ(TM)s of the Ã(TM)apostropheÃ(TM) correctly.

Canada participates in the "War on Terror" via a contribution in Afghanistan. The Iraq debacle is a whole other story.
I'm not alone... Thanks, you made my day. I've been feeling sorry for myself for years.
Perhaps because Slashdot has a great moderation system.. Nah, that can't be it.

While you're on wikipedia, why not read up on this eye-opener.
Nice. I'm glad you aren't "some people".

Take care of your stuff. Disc scratches are normal wear and tear (except if the machine scratches them, but that's a defective product).
If you buy a car, is it reasonable to expect a brand new car if you return the old, scratched one?
Jonathan Eunice .. I prefers Leinuce over Eunice.
I thought not.
