IBM didn't lack the Marketing for OS/2. Don't you remember the OS/2 Warp commercials on TV, months prior to the release of Win95?
I can particularly remember the Two nuns talking Russian (or something) talking about how "Chicago" is delayed again, and that there is an alternative.
What was lacking for OS/2 (and is also lacking with Linux today) are the commercial "killer" desktop apps. Unfortunately, from then till now, MS Office had just about taken over.
The first game I really got into was Doom, but my passion for it faded away. I got back into some serious gaming when Quake II came out. The OpenGL graphics were amazing (compared to Doom, or even GLQuake) and the game was nice and lightweight for the hardware at the time.
QIII was a nice progression but honestly, and I speak for myself, what I enjoyed most were the multiplayer Q2 co-operative games, where up to four people could do the same mission at the same time.
I don't know why so many people complain about M$, and how "shocked" people are when M$ announces this kind of thing. If you're running any M$ OS at home, then by choice, you are accepting this.
I run Linux at home and I am lucky to be able to run Linux at work too. I have chosen not to fall in Microsoft's grip.
If you're gonna complain about M$, then do something about it. Convince people not to buy M$ products any more. Don't buy Microsoft products yourself. Or, by all means, switch to an alternate OS. No one is forcing you to use M$.
Actually, I have a couple of 486/66's with X on them that run apps from my Athlon machine. The Athlon doesn't feel a thing, and the kids can use NS6, Moz, irc clients, hell, they can even use Staroffice, and all at the same time!
For reference, I have 384MB RAM in the Athlon, but RAM is so cheap nowadays...
Besides, running a game, nevermind the entire OS, would be sloooooooooow as hell...
And I do agree that supporting games, and apps as well, on Linux must be a support nightmare.
Actually, you could spell it as "Athlon" rather than "Athalon", and you would be much more credible.
I like the add that sais "Want a VA Linux Server"...
Kind of appropriate to have that banner ad displayed on a day like today...

I think there was an unintentional emphasis on the *she*... Maybe that's what ticked off upper management :/
When's the last time Slashdot had 10 employees on the list of "World's richest people"?
When's the last time Rob's gross was measured in the billions?
When's the last time Slashdot's DNS servers were down?
Get the hint? I could go on...
When's the last time Slashdot attempted to publically humiliate Microsoft?
uh, scratch that one.

Taco didn't like it.
It's just a hunch.
It's been said before, and will be said again.
USE A GODDAMN SPELL CHECKER YOU FOOLS! The typos in this review are EMBARASSING.
Please check your grammar. You should have written:
It's been said before, and it will be said again: use a god damned spell checker, you fools! The typographical errors in this review are embarrassing.
Indeed, Taco is a frustrated journalist / editorialist / Public Web Site Owner Trying To Please The Public.
... You don't suck, people do.
Taco: you're doing a good job buddy. Keep 'em coming
"One question per post, please"

David vs. Goliath
Microsoft still beating up on everyone, including the small guy.
See my above post about people who bitch too much. You, my friend, are one of them.
And if I speld like Taco, than Id be writing like this.
... That last paragraph you wrote is because people bitch and complain too much, and you know it.
Give it to 'em, they bitch. Charge 'em for it, they bitch.
Post it and don't comment, they laugh at your journalism. Post it and comment about it, they bitch at your site and opinions.
I'm glad I'm not in your shoes.
Yea, I thought, *for once*, you deserved a bit of credit =) Maybe someday I'll say something nice about Katz...
Maybe not.
Taco's response was well-written, well thought-of and insightful. No matter what you say, I give his response a +1 Insightful.
And when you build a house, I suppose you run out to the woods with an axe and cut your own wood. Or perhaps you fabricate your own nails.
Building a Linux system from scratch is by all means time consuming. If you have time to do it that way, congratulations.
Such as the ones we see all the time on
:)
Yea, I was sarcastic....
Oh well.
Because in my MCSE stydy guide, Networking Essentials, it sais that Fiber Optics are impossible to tap.
So there.
... it runs diesel, right?
hehehe :) I have a girlfriend, and I haven't lost any yet!
Take care of her, love her, respect her, take time out for her, take care of yourself and your appearance for her.
She won't have a reason to cheat. Just be the same person she fell in love with. Too many guys (and girls) slack off in a relationship.
