But when I got the computer, in addition to Acer's stupid and ultimately useless bloatware sucking up all the speed, Microsoft's Aero was set for maximum bling on integrated graphics. It took the computer minutes to start up. The entire time, out of the box, it sounded like it was grinding (and it was grinding to a halt with the hourglass every few minutes) as it was constantly swapping even with 2GB ram.
But most of that is beyond the regular user. This computer, brand new, felt like a dog out of the box. Why Acer does this is beyond me, it can't look good for them. But more than that, why Microsoft lets them, will be the death of them one day. This is Apple's big win - their computers just work out of the box. And feel new and fast.
Its not just Acer, but HP, Compaq, Sony and more do this. Dells seem to be the cleanest out of the box now a days, followed by E-Machines and Gateway.
You sure? take a look at his ID number and compare to others... Also, hes got the guts to let hit ID out while saying that, given the way many slashdoters feel about the subject I give him credit for letting his ID show...
For the record he is right, I have had it running on two computers since it came out, no crashes and no trouble... None. Yes vista has its quirks, but its really not as bad as people on slashdot make it out to be...
What is MORE interesting is similar but older research cited in TFA:
Positive personality traits associated with liberalism (self-reliant, resilient, dominating and energetic) and negative ones attributed to conservatism (easily victimized or offended, indecisive, fearful and rigid) appear as young as nursery schoolâ"age kidsâ"and correlate with those children's political beliefs in adulthood, according to a 20-year study published in 2006 in the Journal of Research in Personality. More recently, scientists linked the strength of a person's startle response to their political leanings: conservatives tended to scare easier, blinking harder than liberals when they heard a loud noise.
I would love to see how this study was done and who exactly did it, real life experience contradicts this in so many ways...
Either the world has changed a bunch on the last 20 years or it is misleading and meant to manipulate...
The conservatives I know tend to have the traits of "liberalism" in this study and vice versa...
I would put forth most people who own a business are conservative, and none of them are easily victimized, easily offended, indecisive, fearful, or rigid. If they were they would either not have started the business or the business wouldn't last very long...
Hmm, going by what every respectable intelligence agency on the planet thought at the time is lying?
Did John Kerry lie when he said the same thing?
Wash Bush wrong? yes
Is it possible to be wrong and not lie? yes
Did Bush know something that everyone else at the time didn't? not likely (and to those who think he is an idiot if you say yes to this how could he be such an idiot?)
Was there any reasonable evidence that was presented to contradict the prevailing wisdom at the time? no (and the weapon inspectors that had to ask permission to go wherever in enough time for stuff to be moved doesn't count)
Did Bush make mistakes? yes (who hasn't?)
And finally, how much of our taxpayer monies have been spent with little or nothing to show in investigation after investigation on 911, the iraq war, and much of what is said against the current administration that has come up empty handed? (including but not limited to grand jury fishing expeditions *taking 8 to 10 grand juries examining the same evidence to get a charge that won't stick in the first place*) something is wrong with the congress.
In politics today it seems the seriousness of the charge trumps any real evidence...
And one other thing, if Bush is such an idiot, how is it that he gets 90% plus of what he wants from a democratically controlled congress, not usually even needing his veto powers because said measures get voted down first?
Finance? Lol, the thing that makes more difference than anything else is parent involvement. The more involved your parents are no matter what your school finances the better you will do. We throw so much money at our public schools that some schools have enough money to have every one of their students get a limo ride both to and from school every day. Our public school systems in the US waste so much money its not even funny. Also there seems to be a lack of motivation to actually teach the students stuff needed to survive. When I was in college they had to have a class that taught high school freshman algebra because many students didn't know it. There are other reasons public schools don't do well, but believe me, its not the finances that they get, if it has anything to do with finances its how they spend the money...
That man who says we should all drive hybrids while at the same time puts out more than all of us while flying those private jets half way around the world for so called Global Warming conventions. He has a bigger house that 90% of the rest of America thus using more energy to heat and cool it, and now hes overweight.
The rest of America needs to drive hybrids and live in a two room hole in the wall and be super thin just to make up for Al Gore's waste...
That is assuming of course that climate change is man made and that the climate doesn't change on its own over time naturally due to natural reasons...
Hmm, what you said is not necessarily the case. If you are running Windows XP I still come across problems that only happen when IE7 is installed. Uninstall IE7 and all of a sudden everything works. Put IE7 back and guess what, the problem comes back. Doing a full reset of IE7 doesn't even fix the issues.
IE7 is a descent web browser but in some cases it simply causes more problems than its worth.
Seriously though, if your still using any version of IE as your main web browser you need to do some research and find a different one. While IE's biggest competitor supposedly has more security holes its interesting to note how many fewer problems people have with it in general...
How we divide up time is simply based on past experience of the rising and setting of the sun. The sun rising is nothing more than a perception seen by most of the planet based on the planets rotation. There are places on the planet where at certain times the sun never rises and never sets for months on end. Even in pure daylight or pure darkness these places still count days like the rest of us. Because of this I conclude that the time period of "tomorrow" is not necessarily based on the perception of the sun rising.
As for the majority of the earth, we base our perception of the sun "rising in the sky" on past references. It happened yesterday, and the day before, and the day before, ect. This is inductive reasoning, or (to put it simply) an assumption based on experience. *IF* things continue the way they are the sun will be perceived as rising tomorrow for a majority of the planet earth. Will things continue as they have? Very likely yes, but I cannot say for sure until tomorrow after the sun rises from my point of view.
I love it when people make assumptions about me or the stuff I say. In doing so so many people show their true selves. But hey, at least you said please, thats better then most...
If I am drinking so much Kool-Aid back it up and prove it. At least there is substance to what I have to say, rather then a blind attack based on a point of view and no evidence. I have put years of observations into my world view. While doing this I have strived to separate my wants and needs and assumptions about what is happening and get to the truth. From here I ask why and what if many times, and try to answer based on my observations.
BTW who is Michael Savage? I know who Rush Limbaugh and Bill Oreily are, they have radio talk shoes on during a part of the day that I am working and cannot listen. Would be nice to have a chance to sit back and listen to them and make my own decision about what they are saying...
If they say why they support their conclusions I will likely respect them more than I respect you, simply because they have a reason. Respect isn't earned by me based on what you believe, but why you believe it. I love to get into debates with people I disagree with that actually put forth why they believe how they believe. Odds are both sides of a discussion can learn from the other...
Anyway, if you want any respect from me I need more depth in your reply.
1) I would help send forth the powers of capitalism with more tax cuts. It seems every time our taxes are cut within a year the economy gets stronger. This strength remains with the economy for years. There also gets to be fewer and fewer among the unemployed, and the wages of the working class person go up. As a side effect this also lets companies put more into research and development and produce better products and sell them for less money.
2) I would stop payments of federal monies to any educational institution who refused to have our military come and recruit. The money given is a privilege not a right. The military organizations are responsible for the defence of this country, and throughout our history have done a great job. Without them we would not enjoy the freedoms that we take for granted. To openly deny them the chance to talk to potential volunteers only hurts our country further.
3) I would withdraw any monies that we freely give to any country who's leaders openly hate us. We are part of the most generous nation and have done more good for others than any in the history of the planet. No nation has ever given away so much to so many other nations that open hate us. This funding should be cut off until suck time that the countries we freely give our money at least hide their hate. 3a) I would withdraw from the United Nations. This organization has accomplished nothing that is worthwhile in recent times. Since the US won the cold war, and even before that it has done little to no good. Virtually all off the members hate us and actively try to drag us down and limit us.
4) I would invest in education, but not just with money. Throwing money at the education problem has yet to fix it or even make it better. I would have standards that are required to be maintained. Students of a certain grade level will be expected to know such and such material, and if enough in a class don't the teacher would be held responsible. This is of utmost importance as every citizen of this country should have an equal opportunity at whatever it is they want to do.
5) I would shut down the border to stop the flow of people breaking our laws by entering our country without going through the proper channels. 5a) I would also withhold any federal money to any state or city that openly violates federal law and allows illegal immigrants to stay there. 5b) I would institute stiff federal fines for any company that hires any illegal immigrant. 5c) I would seek an amendment to the constitution that would make the children of illegal immigrants not US citizens. I am not against immigration, I am against illegal immigration. I am also not a racist (although from the stand that I have taken on this issue many of you will automatically think I am no matter what I say). There have been many problems in regard to these issues, and some say that these people are a necessity in todays world. If it is such a necessity (which I personally don't believe) then come up with a program where we can issue greencards, and do background checks on the people coming in.
6) I would continue taking the war on terror to the enemy. Terrorism is the biggest external threat to our nation today. I would actively oppose it with the use of intelligence, economic pressure, international pressure via our allies, and even military force if need be. I would maintain a military presence in Iraq and Afghanistan until they can handle their own defence. To leave these two theaters of war before they can defend themselves would be asking for terrorist regimes to attack them and attempt to take control again. The people in both countries are better off now than they were before, and we need to fight to let them be better of under their own governments.
7) I would actively fight to remedy and prevent obvious failures. 7a) Universal Health Care. This has been tried by many other
None of them has proper cooling in this mode. Most dissipate a significant proportion of the heat through the keyboard. I have seen Sony keyboards being literally fried by the heat from working on a docking station. So nowdays if I get a docking station from IT my first reaction is to dispose of it and replace it with a Fellowes stand so I can reuse the laptop LCD as a monitor as well. Umm no... Laptops do not dissipate a significant amount of heat through the keyboard, at least not by design. If yours is you are either covering up an air intake or exaust, or its so clogged up air doesn't flow through the internal cooling system. If a significant amount of heat was meant to be dissipated through the keyboard they would not make the buttons out of plastic, a material with a low melting point...
Hmm... lets see..
Observation 1- Based on my experience computer/console gamers tend to have much better hand eye coordination
Observation 2- People who have a liberal mindset tend to play video games more
Note: the above observations are based on my personal experiences, your experiences may conflict
Result 1- Liberals will, in general, do better at this sort of test
Result 2- Liberal tester sees that liberals have better hand eye coordination and instantly says 'we liberals are better!', doesn't consider any of the factors as to why one group did better on this test
Result 3- Liberal tester does as a liberal usually does and reads into the test a political statement that has nothing to do with the test, in the process spouting several liberal ideas, most if not all of which have failed everywhere they are attempted
To a liberal the above is following their version of the scientific process, which has little to do with finding the truth, and more to do with spreading their ideas, that have all been tried many times before in other parts of the world, and have all always failed.
Belief is a useless term in science. Just an observation, but many recognized "scientific facts" are based as much on the beliefs of the mainstream scientific community as well as fact. When you begin with a premise you tend to look for evidence that supports that premise. Its also interesting to see how quickly many "scientists" dismiss evidence that doesn't support their conclusion, often doing this using little more than an excuse. Its also interesting to note the politics of science. Why is it that when many scientists believe the same thing its difficult to bring any contradictory evidence to bear, such scientists who attempt such a feat are usually discredited, often before anyone even looks at their research or theory.
In science your not supposed to start with your conclusion. 'An advance is still an advance, even if its not what I wanted it to be.' The direct quote evades me but its from one of the Stargate SG1 episodes, anyone happen to knwo the line offhand?.
Amazing... I thought they went broke and collapsed...
