  1. Not just laptops on The Hottest Chat App for Teens is Google Docs (theatlantic.com) · · Score: 5, Interesting

Chromebooks are popular in schools now. And by popular, I mean with the school districts.

Chromebooks are cheap. The district can negotiate with multiple hardware manufacturers for volume discounts. A Chromebook is easily replaced if lost, stolen or eaten. All of the student's "cloud based" course work and assignments are instantly on the new Chromebook as soon as the student logs in. The Chromebooks are easily reset -- even remotely, for the next incoming school year. With Cloud Print, students -- or faculty -- can print to various printers in the school to which they are given access. Access to everything on a Chromebook is centrally controlled once the district joins new Chromebook hardware to their Google account.

Now given the above, THAT is the biggest reason why I see Google Docs as a chat application. If everyone had Windows or Macs they could use other potential chat applications.

If it is an algorithm calculating PI, it would be mathematically provably correct. This formula (there are more than one) calculate PI to arbitrary precision. All that is left to question is the correctness of the implementation.

Since PI has been independently calculated by so many different implementations over time, the initial digits of them can be cross checked for correctness. One early effort, was it in the 1950s maybe(?) calculated PI to 2000 places, and that was called a 'stunt' to show off a computer. If other implementations get the same first 2000 places, can we assume their implementation of whatever formula they use is correct?

Maybe you're saying something different: that someone could commit fraud by stopping generating PI and then substituting a random number generator. In that case, their results will disagree with the next person who tries to beat their record and it will be obvious.

You can google and youtube for it but . . . in 2012 Twitter rewrote from Ruby On Rails to Java. You should listen to their reasons why. They went to Java because they needed to handle a billion tweets per day. Each one has to be routed to phones, email addresses, and other things in near real time. Yes, they need a datacenter, but not because they use Java. They use Java because it was MORE efficient. It is in fact much more efficient. That's why it is number one. The people who are using it and spending significant money on it are not stupid as apparently you are.
