The company I work for successfully runs our webserver(php & MySQL) on an old pentium 166. We have several thousand visitors every month & use it for an ftp site for suppliers, a router, firewall, gateway & squid server.
I think that your 700mhz machine would work fine for just web pages.:)
This is true, but do you think the companies that are paying programmers to create a compiled program for a web application are going to be useing an external hosting solution?
I would glady look at ads on every other page of my texts if it meant that i didn't have to choose between buying books/eating mac and cheeze every day, and not having books/being able to afford a six pack to go with my mac and cheeze
I paid over $100 for a marketing book and all it has in it is ads (about 3-5 per page) Don't think that ads would lower und-user cost. It'll only add to others profit margin!
I don't think you are seeing the point. It is one thing to see something you like and build a site using the same design elements, it is a completely differant situation if you see something you like, copy source, insert differnt company name.
I think that the real advantage of this bug would be directed at those with "always on" connections, that way the ip addy in the server logs will be something other than a dynamicly generated isp ip. You also have to remember that the general public won't understand this bug even after it's carefully explained to them.
I disagree completely. If you think that AOL is going to lift up netscape to the status it once held you're nuts. AOL doesn't even use netscape, they use IE. Hows that for great product marketing. Also the next version of nestcape is not even backwards compatible. All the websites that were made in order to use layers in netscape version 4.X will lay down and die on the new version. The general public won't take the time to download a new browser when they all ready have a browser they know how to use.
Ok then, If GPL programs are included on a system that you purchase, then the buyer could take them and sell them without the source. It would be "Bundled" with the PC.
You are mistaken to think that a child under 7 (or 4) is not able to reason & know between right and wrong.
I have a 2yr old that know the difference between right & wrong, at least as it applies to him and his actions.

Wait.... you're right it's the same thing.
About 150 miles North East of Kansas City several gas stations are shut down because they ran out of gas. Sucks to be me!
Oh man..That is sweet. I have never seen such creative source code in my life
This is a typo. In a previous article (http://www.byte.com/column/BYT20001229S0005) hw talks about the same server w/ 768mb of RAM.

When have prices ever come down because the demand increases?
I disagree completely.

If you buy a truck you own the truck. If you buy Micro$oft Software you own the right to use the software. (Which is squatt)
None of these have any useful function to a person interested in reading the news that is on the page.
